Amazing buffet - Edit
$28 for an all you can eat buffet. Staff are super lovely & constantly filling things up & clearing plates. Buffet is high quality, so flavoursome, clearly labelled. Cauliflower is insanely good as is the veggie curry (it’s all amazing). Seating outdoors is beautiful.

Everything was super tasty yet very light. Probably 80% vegan which is a big change since I first visited 25-30 years ago when there was much more dairy. Very difficult to say no to second helpings of everything!

Great option for a Friday Night - Edit
I got the option of dinner & movie. The staff is very friendly, they had great vegan options and it is a buffet where you can eat as many times as you want. The staff are aware about veganism so you don’t need to explain.

Sorry to read the last review with just two 2 stars given- My experience here was very different. A friend and I spent a beautiful evening here 2 years ago. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere great, even though the restaurant was full. I can’t recommend Govinda’s highly enough. Hands down the best indian food I‘ve ever had. We had thirds because the food was so delicious. Will be back for sure😄

Bread and a dal type soup, soup was good but I had dry bread as butter was on offer not margarine (easy fix guys also not sure if lurpak is ahimsa)
Only 2 Curry's on offer, both were good especially the green curry style one
The lentil Shepard's pie type dish and the pasta dish had dairy(just why?? you went to the effort of using lentils put the cheese seperate maby)
Wedges and pakora ok I guess
Salads just ok
That's about it not worth $25 to be fair if there was desert I'd have probably been happy enough
Sevice feels rushed and a little rude
Guy who took our money was very pleasant and didn't charge the 4 year old with our group which was nice

Haven't eaten here in eons. The buffet was delicious except for two dishes that were labelled containing dairy, the rest was plant based. Had a soup, a large variety of salads and hot dishes with brown or white rice, had chappatis or western bread, a large chafing dish with fried cauli and great thick fried chips.

Born the buffet was great a lentil and veg soup, the usual variety of vegan dishes, brown and white rice and 6 salads. $77 incl film for 2.

Not only the outdoor but also the antique interior atmosphere could amaze you times to to times. The buffet is quite limited choices but definitely delicious.

Read moreThe food is good and tasty (sometimes a bit spicy). You have few choices for main and more stuff in appetizzers. They write all the ingredients for allergies which is hepfull.

A strange mix of vegetarian foods from salads and grains to curries and fries...some vegan options but not as many as you would hope nor as tasty as you would expect. Staff seemed a little indifferent and disinterested making for a strange atmosphere. With all the vegan places popping up I feel Govinda's need to up their game a little.. .a bit disappointing.

Very good dahl. Nice place. Very comfy cinema. Reasonable price. Bit disappointed on the number of vegan curries- 1 out of 3, all of which look like they could be made vegan easily. Though there was a good selection of vegan salads it isn't what I went there for.

I really loved this place. We went on a Thursday night where almost all of the dishes are vegan – it’s a new thing apparently. The indian dahl soup was the best I have tasted, even better than I’ve had in India, and the coconut green curry was equally as amazing. The quinoa salad was a winner and the pasta bake was delicious. I thought the choices at the buffet were great, we were very impressed. Govindas is vegetarian, but I feel they are doing really well to please the vegans also. They have a list next to the buffet of what’s vegan and what’s gluten free. If you want the most choice, I’d recommend going on the Thursday night, but it seems from the list that on other nights vegan options are well covered also. They had a special vegan cheesecake for dessert on the night we were there and again, it was amazing. I’d highly recommend this place. Go to the cinema afterwards too, it’s such a relaxed vibe up there with huge lounge like beds and pillows, and it’s cheaper than a normal cinema. Overall, a great experience.

This place used to be one of my favourite finds in Sydney. A vegetarian buffet and an amazing mini cinema where you recline on huuuge cushions. =) Last week I visited it for about the 4th time in two years and though it was still very enjoyable, I thought the buffet seems like it has diminished. The other reviews are correct, it is questionable as far as vegan options go. They have some greasy western staples too; mac n cheese, wedges (probably an option for fussy kids?) But the ambience & vibe is warm & lively, dark red walls & dim lights. It's equally perfect for a group dinner or a date. The service is wonderful too.

Uninteresting food at poor value for money - Edit
Even as a non-vegan (see reviews below), every visit to Govinda's has left me underwhelmed. I must admit, I walk away full, but mostly because I feel I need to get my money's worth when the food just isn't that interesting, and the buffet shows little change between visits.

we are vegan amd went there for dinner this evening.For us were there just the lentil soup,steamed rice and chickpeas and salads.The food was nothng special but the movie experience was very nice,because you don't seat,you lie down on a confortable bed like sofa.So we really enjoy the movie!
