An oasis of serentinity in busy Seoul - Edit
You can come here for a free cup of tea in their tea lounge, daily morning meditations, or participate in a wide range of other activities related to Buddhism throughout the week. You can also stay as a guest at the temple for a cheap price, which is a great way to meet other travelers in a calm, respectful, clean, safe, vegan friendly space. For guests, they offer complimentary vegan-friendly breakfast, typically involving a mix of rice with savory korean side-dishes, and more western things like toast and cereal with soy milk. Overall a very friendly and welcoming place – highly recommended for anyone who is interested or curious about meditation and Buddhism!

Thank you!!! - Edit
This restaurant was the best vegetarian restaurant I have ever visited. Firstly, the quality and variety of the food were outstanding. I particularly liked that they offered not only Korean cuisine but also Western and Chinese options. Additionally, the staff provided extremely friendly and prompt service. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, perhaps due to its temple-like ambiance, and the restaurant was very clean. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to not only vegetarians but to all diners. I look forward to visiting again in the future!

A wonderful place recommended for vegetarian beginners! - Edit
This is a place recommended for those who are interested in vegetarianism but are still unfamiliar with it. JustBe's menu is primarily focused on Korean-style vegetarian dishes, allowing you to taste a variety of healthy Korean vegetarian dishes with various types of vegetables. Additionally, there is the advantage of participating in a Potluck party held once a month, where you can interact with people from various nationalities who are interested in vegetarianism, health, and the environment. Especially appealing is the opportunity to taste various vegetarian dishes from different nationalities all in one place at this party. If you're looking for a community where you can socialize with wonderful people around the Hongdae area and try healthy Korean vegetarian cuisine, I highly recommend visiting JustBe.

Great experience with great people - Edit
This place is the perfect spot for vegans or vegetarians looking for a great community and delicious food. I'm not vegan at the moment but came for the potluck and loved how everything was labeled as vegetarian, ovo-vegetarian, vegan, etc. so everybody could eat comfortably. I know it can be difficult to find completely vegan-friendly food in Korea so I'll definitely be recommending this place to any vegan friends.
Read moreYou can also tell how much they care about the food they make. Everything I ate was so delicious. More than anything it's a great group of people that I'm so happy I was able to eat together with.
Before and after the potluck they offered free tea on the first floor and it was a great place to relax and meet new people. The tea tenders are all very kind and attentive and the layout of the tea lounge is very well-structured to be comfortable and calming.
I highly recommend!!!

Amazing veggie friendly community ! - Edit
Found out on Instagram, I attended the veggie potluck (last sat of the month) at JustBe Temple ! Such a friendly and inviting community there !! We read the food contemplation before eating and learned to be mindful of how this food came to us. I liked the fact that they had vegan and ovo/lacto veggie options to choose from. It seemed like they had a strong international community mixed with local members. Most staffs spoke really good English, so it was super easy to get by. After the potluck, a small group gathered around to discuss what we can do environmentally, which made me to like this place more. Btw, I am a tea person and their tea serving was really impressive. I would definitely recommend to others !

Lovely Temple Stay With Adorable People - Edit
Very comfortable and a nice place to stay. Close to Hongdae airport express station called Hongik University Station, it was so convenient. Especially, having a vegetarian breakfast after 108 bows with meditation in the morning, and then enjoying tea and coffee with a friendly Buddhist monk and staff in the lounge was one of the most relaxing and calming experiences of my life. This temple stay is friendly to vegetarians, vegans, and people who want to live a healthy life both physically and mentally. I highly recommend this lovely temple stay to you all!!

Zen atmosphere that makes for great food. - Edit
Being inside a temple, you can really feel the respectful and friendly vibe of the restaurant. You can come up and talk to anyone, which always makes for a great time. On top of this, the very healthy food leaves you content and satisfied.
Read moreSomething to note: you should not put more than you can eat on your plate, you should help with washing the dishes and cleaning up if possible... This can sound like inconveniences at first, but these behaviors really reinforce the values that the temple embodies and fall completely in line with my beliefs.
All in all I recommend eating wholeheartedly if you get the chance.
Pros: Healthy food, Friendly and respectful atmosphere, Buffet-style serving

The dishes are prepared by very skilled an generous cooks who put so much love and care into the preparation, the cooking and the presentation of the food.
Sustainability is written in big letters! Single use items are almost never seen and they seriously pay attention to not waste any food. Some ingredients are foraged in their own garden and the recycling is done very carefully.

Gem in the City of Seoul - Edit
What a gem!! It is in a quiet place, and you have to know your way around a little (you probably won't bump into this place by accident! If you did you are the lucky few!). Once you get there it is definitely a gem in the bustling city of Seoul!
Read moreIf you are looking for a place not only for a vegan/vegetarian meal but to find people likeminded looking for meditation, eco-friendly, yoga and much more, this is definitely the place. It doesn't look much from outside but once you step in, it feels like stepping into a different world. There are many interesting programs taking place and if you are to stay at the temple, you can join for the templestay. You get a place to rest your tired body and breakfast to warm your soul.
Breakfast is simple yet hearty. There are vegan options available as well as vegetarian. You can get some Korean dishes like Kimchi and veggie dishes and also breads with both vegan and vegetarian options and much more. The dining hall is spacious with thoughtful words on the wall to remind you of how precious your everyday meals are.
One of the most important things happening if you are vegetarian/vegan is the monthly vegetarian/vegan Potluck! This is a MUST if you are vegetarian/vegan and loves to cook. Words cannot describe what a wonderful event this is!! Must try it for yourself!
People at Justbe are friendly and you can also find Buddhist monks and nuns to talk to. If you are curious about meditation, this is definitely the place to visit! The vibe is very chill so feel free to check it out!!

vegetarian(+eco) friendly temple stay(guesthouse) - Edit
venue : It has good accessibility from the airport and is located at a transportation hub, making it the best accommodation for visiting various places in Seoul.
Read moreservice : All staff and guests are friendly and have a particularly good understanding of topics such as veganism, eco-friendliness, and sustainability. Perhaps this is because Buddhist culture emphasizes these aspects.
food : Breakfast is provided the day after your stay. Breakfast is simple but appears to be prepared with care. There is a Western style consisting of vegan breads, breads and spreads and jams, and there is a Korean style commonly eaten in Korea. A Korean-style meal includes 5-7 different side dishes, including both vegan and vegetarian options. Each menu has a sign indicating whether it is vegan or vegetarian, so you can eat vegan without any confusion.
price : The price is reasonable compared to other accommodations nearby. This place was originally run as a temple stay, but from a traveler's perspective, it is similar to a guesthouse. It operates with separate rooms for men and women, and has high Airbnb reviews. Additionally, it is convenient to extend your stay, and there are sometimes discounts for long-term stays. I think it is a good price considering the level of facility management, transportation convenience, and friendliness.
Pros: nice korean style breakfast, vegan friendly environment
Cons: somehow limited understanding of vegan culture

First visit to Potluck Party!! :D - Edit
So, I luckily found this place called Justbe temple. It is a real temple. I saw it in instagram and they were having a veggie potluck party. I was curious. What is potluck party? I sent them a DM in Instagram, and they explained that potluck party is a event where friends all over the world gather and share there foods. And because Justbe temple is a temple, they only accepted veggie foods. So I decided to go there.
Read moreI brought some veggie Korean pancakes with me. I saw many people brought there own foods and sharing. It was so colorful and delicious. Also, talking with various people while eating them was even better. Temple served us free tea, and I could have private tea talk with buddhism monks and nuns. It was so much fun and insightful. I this buddhism have a broad background of healthy veggie food culture. I might start studying buddhism culture.
Pros: So colorful and pretty. Food looks so good, Heartwarming environment, Liveful community vibe

Temple Spirit the Merciful heart to take caring of whole world - Edit
It's really cool to see how Buddhism and Veganism share a lot of important ideas.
Read moreCaring for All Living Things:
Both Buddhism and Veganism believe in being kind to every living thing in the world.
Avoiding Hurting Others:
They both say it's important not to do anything that might hurt others.
Korean Buddhism goes even further. They think about how food gets to our plates. Many hands, like the sun, microbes, water, birds, insects, farmers, cooks, and the people who set up the places where we get our food, all play a part. The idea of 'Gong-Yang-Gae' in Korean Buddhism helps us understand where our food comes from.
While working at this temple, I've noticed how everything in our lives is connected in unexpected ways. It's pretty amazing to realize how everything in the universe is connected.
This temple is working hard to share its ideas, especially about Veganism. The head monk JuneHan Sunim and BaekDam Sunim have been organizing Potluck Parties for more than 20 years. It's a tradition they want to continue. Since this place is a Korean Buddhist temple, there's a lot of rich culture that I can feel.
Even SunJae Sunim, who is the first Temple Food master in Korea, is connected with this place. Meeting her and hearing what she has to say has been a really interesting experience. She's like a master at what she does!
On the rooftop garden, they're trying out some cool things to connect with regenerative culture. They're using leftover tea and herbs from the Bibim lounge and tea places to make compost. They're growing herbs like Smurge and tea herbs too. It's their way of creating a regenerative culture in the middle of the city.
I hope more people discover this amazing place!
