Solid Options - I recommend the Mushroom Pan Mee or Laksa Lemak

Solid Malaysian food with clear menu and delicious options. A bit pricier but I think it’s well worth it.

I recommend the Tofu Laksa Lemak ($20) which is a soupier meal. For something more dry, I recommend the mushroom Pan Mee ($21)

It feels like the take order portions are smaller than dine-in.

Good labeling, great food,

This place is the descendent of a really great window spot formerly down on Olive, and while it will never be quite as baller as that window was, the vegan options are better and the food is still pretty good. I’ve seen them competently host a very large dinner party (20 people) without messing up anything. The labeling on the menu is perfect. And I find their menu practice (no tipping, auto-charging 18% charge that goes to all staff) a tad better than some of the other practices in town, though still not as good as just baking it all into the pricing to begin with.

The one downside is that because they bring things out as they are done, that can really [censored] with a mixed party. They encourage “family style” eating which obviously doesn’t work with dietary restrictions. I was once with someone who finished their entire meal before mine even came out. So I would avoid for dates, etc.

i love the mushroom pan mee

they have clearly labeled options and explain which substitutes they use and clearly label ingredients. the food was delicious and the portions were filling.

Pros: yummy food, good portions, fair price

Cons: could have more vegan options for sides and bread

Tasty Dinner

We had a delicious dinner. The menu is well-labeled with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes and options all clearly identified. We also enjoyed the zero proof cocktails offered. Both of our dishes came with chili sauce so we could adjust to our desired level of spiciness. Portions were large.

Pros: Tasty food , Clearly labeled menu, Gluten-free and nonalcoholic choices

Really tasty unique flavors

We ordered most of the vegan options on the menu—do not skip the funky pineapple salad! The Tofu chickpea curry and Laksa were also both really good. The coconut rice was a little too sweet for me, but my partner enjoyed it. There’s not that many vegan options, so this might not be a regular place for us, but it’s definitely worth trying.

Good Spread of Vegan Malaysian

Malaysian food is one of my favorites and there's never often enough spots around that serve their delicacies, especially ones that can be veganized. Fortunately, Kedai Makan was there to help me get my Malay fixing I've been longing for a while.

We came on a Friday evening and it was already packed by 18:00. They were able to seat the three of us fairly quickly but it does help to get on the waitlist if you are coming on a busy weekend evening.

Their menu was clearly marked with items that were vegetarian, vegan (and items that could also be made vegan), gluten-free, etc. and the servers were well-versed as well.

We went with their Nasi Lemak ($19) with vegan with Tofu and Chickpea Curry and sambal instead of anchovies, and the Laksa ($15) with extra sambal and no egg. I really enjoyed their nasi lemak with the fragrant tofu curry and their wonderfully fluffy coconut rice, which was probably my favorite part of the dish. The laksa was also a solid noodle dish though I wish there was included protein from the get-go, such as tofu.

These were the two main entrees that could be veganized and I'm glad they did a solid job to make sure us plant-based eaters weren't left behind. Thank you Kedai Makan for a great trip back to the flavors of Malaysia.

Love it!

Been wanting to come here for a while and finally made time to do so. Ordered the laksa Lemak and the nasi lemak. Both delicious. I enjoyed the laksa more. Also ordered their Malay peanuts which are a good shareable item.
