Best vegan spreads - Edit
I have loved Lebe Gesund vegan spreads „Ibi“ since I was little and my opinion definitely hasn’t changed. Although they are a bit expensive, it’s always worth to buy a spread or pesto in this store. They offer samples with bread so you can try before you buy. The staff is really helpful and friendly. A truly great organic vegan selection.

Always love this store! - Edit
This vegan shop is always in the most unexpected little German towns and it makes me so happy. They have great breads, cookies, sauces, pesto... highly recommend their Hokkaido spread and lebkuchen cookies!

An (almost) vegan paradise in an unexpected place - Edit
I was in Mannheim only for a very brief (30 min.) train change on my way to Hamburg, so didn't check the Happy Cow listings beforehand. It was therefore a great surprise to stumble upon a quite spacious Lebe Gesund store (known as Les Produits de la vie in Francophone markets). I had already eaten, but picked up some apple chips for later. For an actual meal, you could get a jar of sandwich spread and some bread, or some vegan deli "meats", etc., to eat on the train. Also a good place to get gifts for your hosts or friends back home.

Cons: not totally vegan (honey in some products)

Organic veggie food in Mannheim central station - Edit
A big shop selling organic vegan food and cosmetics within the station building. It is connected to a controversial religious movement called "Universal Life" which promotes, among other things, vegetarism. The shop is part of a chain. They sell only their own produce, like bread, spreads, seitan based sausages and burgers, juices, packet soups, seasoning mixes, cookies, traditional German "Lebkuchen" (ginger bread), cosmetics, cook books etc. Many of the products are quite special and very good, like their wild garlic (allium ursinum) pesto and spreads. They don't have sandwiches with fresh stuff, but you can ask to put spread on one of the rolls or croissants if you are looking for some quick food to go. All products can be obtained by mail order as well.

Cons: controversial background, no fresh veggies
