Absolutely fine

Just ask the wait staff what's vegan. Or ask about a specific dish. We had sushi, hotpot and fried noodles and all were vegan. Service was delightful. Norwegian prices. 💰💰

Pros: Service was very good , Seem to be plenty of options , Nice view

Okay

Restaurants in Tromso have two kinds of guests: Norwegians and tourists. The locals love their fish and most tourists go for the typical fast food: pizza and burgers. This doesn't make Tromso and ideal place for vegans.

Yet, Happy Cow mentions a few restaurants with more than average vegan options. Chinese restaurant "Lotus" is one of them. It's located at a beautiful spot overlooking the bay and wasn't busy at all on a Friday evening. Despite what other reviewers wrote, I didn't see a single vegan option on the menu. There are 2 vegetarian options though: "vegetable hot pot" and "Japanese style fried vegetables". According to the waitress both are in fact vegan and based on her recommendation I opted for the hot pot.

It is exactly what the name implies: a pot of vegetables that are both spicy hot and temperature hot. White rice is served on the side. Lotus chops the vegetables into big chunks, like most Chinese restaurants do. The hot pot contained cashews and mushrooms as well, making for a good nutritious meal. However, the ingredients tasted like no more than average quality. The orange juice that I ordered wasn't freshly squeezed but obviously came from a (cheap) supermarket carton.

Pros: big portion, friendly Chinese waitress, nice location on the water front

Cons: expensive (like most Norwegian food), only 2 vegetarian options

Enjoyed it!

I have been here before and was very pleased to see they had added more vegan-friendly options to the menu. Tofu was not available before! The tofu/avocado teriyaki sushi was delish!

Pros: Vegan protein available, Sushi available, Vegetarian options

Cons: Only two vegetarian dishes on main menu
