Craving something sweet almost midnight, we've found the famous Lukumades! Bought the one without filling with bitter chocolate topping, so good!!! The dough itself is vegan. There are some toppings and fillings that are vegan (not all of them) - they are clearly labelled.

There were several vegan options: bitter chocolate, maple syrup, icing sugar, or cherry filled.
Read moreWe got the icing sugar and they really skimped on the icing sugar, I was eating just fried dough with a tiny amount of icing sugar by the end. The lukumades were nice and crispy though, so this ratio was disappointing.
Maybe I should have got the maple syrup or cherry filled but I didn't want anything tooo sweet.

I was glad to be able to experience what I've been told is a Greek traditional dessert. Like in most places in Athens, the staff is very friendly and speaks English. The dessert itself was great, although a bit too sweet and the portion size was good as well. Some of the vegan options I saw here were no longer available, though.

Historical and delicious. Buy one portion between two. Very generous with the sauces. We had the maple syrup pistachio with fig filling which was delicious! Have the tsikoudia liquor with your lukumares. Or the rakomela liquor but they ran out by the time we got there but we heard it's great.

Doughnut balls with toppings - Edit
Vegan items clearly marked on the menu. I had icing sugar-covered balls, maple syrup covered balls, and bittersweet chocolate covered balls filled with cherry sauce. I liked the icing sugar balls the best, but the dough itself isn’t very flavourful. The maple syrup did not have a maple flavour - I’m pretty sure it’s just a sugar syrup and not real maple syrup. The chocolate-cherry balls were overly sweet; I could only eat one. One serving comes with around 8 balls, which I wasn’t able to finish since they are very filling and heavy. I paid about €5. It’s certainly worth trying this shop if you’re nearby since this is a classic Greek treat, but I don’t think it’s worth a special trip.

Clearly specified ‘Vegano 2.0’ option on the menu. The vegan dark chocolate gelato was so rich and yummy, as well as the Lukamades themselves being filled with chocolate as well. So great to find hassle-free vegan dessert that didn’t hold back at all on taste!

My first time trying lukumades, it was very tasty! They're a bit like small, crunchy donuts with a filling. There are two vegan fillings and several toppings. We went with a praline filling, icing sugar and almond topping. Very tasty and filling. Also got some fresh Orange Juice.

Lukumedes are delicious doughnut type balls which have been eaten since 776BC and omg there is a reason they're still so popular today!
