We visited Mama Ethiopian a couple of times, however I think we actually tried to go there 3 more times and it was closed, despite it being during their opening hours which was a little disappointing.

What a find! - Edit
We will always eat Ethiopian food if we can find it, and this was right in our neighborhood. Don't let looks deceive - this looks super seedy down into a dark basement but the food was epic! Friendly people too.

Wish I could give 5 stars! - Edit
The veggie platter is absolutely delicious, one of the best dishes in Itaewon/HBC for sure. It is VERY filling, which is pretty nice since most vegan places in Seoul serve smaller portions.

Great restaurant! - Edit
It’s downstairs and has great ambiance. The food was really delicious. There’s a veggie platter and some other veggie options. Other reviews say you can make it vegan. You eat with your hands and get a huuuuge dosa style bread to eat with your food😄

Great hole in the wall! - Edit
Menu options available in English, basement level restaurant with great ambiance and decor. Owners are super kind and chatty. Got the veggie platter and devoured it so fast that we didn’t even have time to remember to take photos.

Mama's Ethiopian - Edit
I got the platter. The staff was very friendly and food was brought out quickly. The dishes were good, especially the middle one which was a lentil dish with rich spices. However I prefer the Injera I have had at other places and there were less dishes than served in the past.

Amazing veg platter, great place to sit - Edit
Very relaxed atmosphere and man who served me was a nice dude. Ordered the veg platter and it was brilliant, I'd never had Ethiopian before. I'd be quite surprised if it wasn't fully vegan - I asked if it had egg before ordering and he seemed mildly surprised, plus everything was lentil and veg based. But yeah, highly recommend it.

Flavorful and filling - Edit
The vegetarian platter is absolutely delicious- all the sides are so flavorful and spiced so nicely. Honestly loved every single one of the dishes served with the injera which was also 👍🏽👍🏽. The dish is pretty hefty—I can usually split it with another person or take leftovers enough for another meal. Staff is friendly and the vibe is casual and cozy.

Very filling! - Edit
I love Injera and it's great that there is another place in Seoul that offers a vegan/vegetarian version with several different toppings.
Read moreThey have a "vegetarian platter", which is Injera featuring several veggie toppings: Stews as well as mixed vegetables, some mild, others a little bit spicy. And the toppings change slightly each time! The size of this dish is huge - probably enough to share for two people! (Price: 15.000 KRW)
Apart from that, there are a couple of other veggie-friendly dishes, e.g. lentil stews, salads or noodles with tomato sauce. If you order e.g. lentil stew, it will be served with an Injera as a side as well.
Their Injera dough is well fermented, so you can expect a strong sour taste here! Very soft and spongy texture, too, which is perfect for absorbing the sauces.
Traditionally, this giant "pancake/flatbread" is eaten with your hands. But staff offers disposable plastic gloves for those, who don't want to get their fingers covered in sauce! Wet tissues and napkins are available, too.
The restaurant is located in the basement and it's a dark but warm and cosy place - maybe a bit smokey. The entrance is small and easy to miss if you don't look out!

Yum! - Edit
I’m so happy another Ethiopian place opened up in Seoul! I hadn’t had a chance to get there and I couldn’t take it anymore so I finally ordered delivery from Shuttle! It did not disappoint. The veggie plate was very flavorful, had a great variety and came with plenty of injera! Can’t wait to visit in person.

Great for a change! - Edit
Ethiopian is always a great VEG option but Seoul has been lacking in reliable centrally located places. Mama stepped in and filled that gap.
Read moreFood is just as you would expect, which is a good thing. I was happy to just order the platter to make life easy. It was very good but I will ask for something spicer on the platter next time... because I am going again very soon.
