Japanese pastry shop with some vegan options including traditional "Hakone no Otsukisama". Upstairs you can also enjoy some kakigori (shaved ice) in summertime, topped with matcha or kuromitsu (black syrup) and kinako (toasted soy flour). Call ahead to confirm.

Red bean based Japanese pastry

Located not far from the Hakone station.

This place sells mostly pastries and also shaved ice and other sweets. It’s nice but it doesn’t beat my favourite Japanese red bean pancake snack.

The red bean pastry is vegan but ask the staff to be sure (not all of them understand the word vegan).

They sell them in boxes and the smallest one is pretty cheap.

Delicious snacks

Highly recommend both the red bean and black sesame for a perfect snack during your Hakone trip.

Great location next to the train station too!

A nice souvenir

I bought a box of 6 Hakone no Otsukisama for about 750¥. The staff seemed to be knowledgeable about what products went into the composition. They had other options that I sadly didn't get to try. The otsukisama were not my favourite, (I am not accustomed to the sugary taste), but it was nicely packed and would have made a great present for friends and family.

Traditional local sweets and kakigori

We went to this place twice, the first time to buy their sweets (Hakone-no-otsukisama) which are vegan, the second time to enjoy kakigori in a hot afternoon, served with matcha or kuromitsu and kinako. Highly recommended.

Pros: delicious sweets
