Popular bakery chain with some vegan options in some shops! - Edit
Milnar are one of the big local bakery chains that like most Croatian bakers make lots of varieties of crap white bread. Honestly if you want good bread in Croatia you're sadly better off going to a German supermarket like Kaufland!
Read moreFor ages it's been part of the vegan game in Croatia to go into bakeries and try and work out if any of the potato, mushroom or apple burek are cruelty free! It's often an imprecise science with the ingredients just saying "margarine" and the staff telling you its not got milk in but you are never quite sure if they are aware of whey or lactose etc.
So now Planet of the Plants have teamed up with Milnar and in many of their bakeries in Zagreb and a few other tourist spots you can (maybe) get some of a new vegan range. So far I've only been able to try the hot dogs - very satisfying- and the burek - less so!
Don't get too excited they are often not available or only some of the range are but in a meat worshipping country like Croatia this is a big step forward. Check this webpage for supposed availablility.

But remember not to rely on these places actually having the stuff in stock.
One good thing about a few of the Milnar bakeries is that they are open late. The one in the subway that goes under the railway close to the main station (technicaly at Paromlinska 2, Zagreb) is open from 5.30 am till midnight which makes it a very rare latenight outlet for vegan snacks in Zagreb.

Pros: Vegan options at last, Not too expensive
Cons: Not very exciting, Only in some outlets, Why no mushroom burek?
