I Liked It?

After reading reviews, I was worried I was not going to like the vegan chowder, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was very lime-forward, but I love citrus, so I was happy. The sourdough bowl is on the sour side, so paired with the chowder, it was tangy, but I oddly really liked it. My boyfriend was less amused. It did not really feel like a “chowder” per se, so if that is what you’re expecting, you’ll likely be disappointed. However, considering the long line (which, to be fair to them, does move pretty quickly) and only offering one vegan option, I would probably not choose to eat here again, but it was a solid pick as a vegan with non-veg people who wanted to experience a “Seattle classic.”

Expensive Chowder Place Catering to Tourists

I've been to Pike Place Chowder many times when I lived outside Seattle. But it was always to bring out of town guests to Pike Market, and this place must be in all of the tour guide books! The line is long but moves quickly. I'm grateful for the lime coconut vegan chowder that they have at this obligatory stop.

Everything here is expensive for what you get; there aren't many "goodies" in the chowders. But I understand that the rent here is high, reflected in the cost of the menu items.

That being said, I wouldn't go here on my own but it's a great place to bring out of town guests.

Pros: Chowder served hot, Friendly staff

Cons: Crowded with limited seating, Expensive for what you get

Okay

I finally braved the line, after years of eyeing this place. The line went surprisingly fast. You can pre-order online too, although it is unclear if that would save you any time. There was no available seating when I went which seems to generally be the case.
The vegan chowder tastes a bit like it should have ice and rum, and I should be sipping it on a beach somewhere. I would eat it again if I was with someone who wanted to go, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Pros: Efficient staff

Cons: Long lines, Seating is limited and busy

Not worth the wait

Tasty but lacked flavour, under-salted and the bread roll it was served in was weirdly too sour. Not disappointed but wouldn’t be rushing back there.

Great Vegan Chowder & Service

I had the Vegan chowder and was reassured by the staff (who was also vegan) they'd take care of me. Hooked me up with some tips on seasoning and Tabasco. I would highly recommend visiting if you're in the area. Was able to fill up and get back to exploring the pier. Would give 5 stars if I could.

Pros: The food was great., The service was awesome., The wait time was short.

Cons: The seating can be tricky to find.(Some upstairs)

Vegan chowder!

In seattle for the weekend, and was surprised there was a vegan chowder option. It was actually really good! Mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes and other greens in a coconut milk sauce.

It’s a start!

We tried the lime and coconut chowder in a sourdough bread bowl and liked it. It had a surprisingly thick consistency similar to clam chowder but I would have preferred some sort of chewy replacement like perhaps mushrooms to replace the clams. All in all though I’m just really pleasantly surprised that they have a vegan option at all! And one that isn’t half bad!

Pros: Tastes fairly healthy, Filling with sourdough, Convenient option within a non vegan location

Chowder in bread bowl!

Only one vegan option, but what an option it is! Creamy coconut chowder with veggies in a sourdough bread bowl! Warm, filling, delicious. Really fun to get enjoy something I thought I’d never have again after becoming vegan. My kids’ minds were blown by the concept of the bread bowl.

Only one option but worth it

If the line is too long, don't worry, it moves by really fast. Worth getting if you're with people who want to try the place out. Glad they offer an option

Great to have a vegan option!

It’s tasty and good! I really like the lime flavour, however a bit of seaweed or tofu would make it more like the real thing, even though I really enjoyed all the veggies! I definitely will be coming back for more! The queue is super fast even if long!

Delicious chowder!

We got the chowder to go and ate it back at our condo. It was about a 15 minute walk and it was still hot when we got home. Very flavorful! We got slices of sourdough with it and I would have preferred it in a bread bowl.

Pros: Unique vegan chowder

Glad to have an option at a Pike Place favorite!

Lime and coconut chowder was delish! Yeah of course they could offer more options but I'm just happy to have one at a chowder place. Staff at the grab and go counter were so nice. And even the oyster crackers were vegan!

Good but not great

The chowder was good but not great. It has a very lime heavy flavor, which to be fair is in the title. It has a good consistency, and the bread bowl was delicious! I just wish they had an option with a more savory profile. The service was friendly and quick. Definitely try it and form your own opinion.

Pros: Vegan option , Fast service

Cons: Spendy, Only one vegan option, Limited seating available

Super Impressed!

I saw that they only have coconut lime chowder for vegans, and being someone who is quite averse to coconut flavor, I thought I wouldn't even bother trying it. I read a few reviews and was convinced, and after trying it, wow! It's super thick and doesn't taste like coconut at all. It's suuuper creamy with corn and potatoes, bok choy, and some other stuff. The bread bowl was really good too! Definitely give it a shot even if you don't like coconut!

Yay for chowder!

Make sure to give yourself time for a potentially long line! It's definitely worth the visit however, we really enjoyed the creamy vegan chowder option right in Pike Place Market! Classic, tasty, really nice sourdough bread bowl. Compostable plates/spoons, glass bottle soda options.

Pros: Compostable plates/spoons, Glass bottle sodas, Delicious sourdough bread

Cons: Long wait time, Only one vegan option

Cool to try a vegan chowder!

I was pretty excited to find someone making a vegan chowder and I really enjoyed it, especially in the sourdough bread bowl. That said, it didn’t blow me away. I expected the lime and coconut to be a bit stronger, I guess? And the line is long or at least it was when I was there. I’m glad I had the experience. Probably wouldn’t do it a second time.

Fun, tasty experience. Well worth the wait. Kudos to them for offering vegan!

Long line is part of the overall positive experience. It moved quickly, & we met interesting people while in line. Meal was hot & awesome. Don't miss the chance to eat there if you're in Seattle.

Pros: Super tasty vegan chowder, Long line, but it moved fast, Well worth the wait

Cons: Pricey yes, but worth the experience

Very solid chowder

Line can get long, but the chowder is great. I got it in a bread bowl and enjoyed it. If it's cold or there are no seats, you can take your food next door to the ginger beer shop, as long as you get something there. Also, for being a lime and coconut milk base, it still tastes close to a more traditional chowder.
