Serves meat, vegan options available. Asian restaurant. Has marked vegan items, and some un-marked ones which can be made vegan. Staff know what vegan means.
Edit: 2022 reviewer confirmed with management that veg items are not mislabeled as being vegetarian, and most are also vegan. Changed my rating to reflect the update.
My boyfriend and I went to Pingpong last night for our second time and let our waiter know we are vegan. We ordered some items specifically marked vegetarian on the menu, which we ordered before and were told were vegan. Our waiter returned from the kitchen after taking our order to let us know that all of the items with a brown sauce, despite being marked vegetarian, are made with oyster sauce. We asked him if that could be modified because we were previously told they were vegan, so he went back to the kitchen to double-check. When he returned, he let us know that they could NOT be modified, and therefore could not be made vegetarian despite clearly being marked vegetarian. He showed us the items that could be made vegan, so we went with the lotus pad Thai and modified fried rice. They were both very tasty, and the waiter was extremely nice and helpful, but it was disappointing that a restaurant would mislabel items as vegetarian when they're not.
Hello. I spoke to the staff and a manager tonight and they confirmed all the vegetarian items are without oyster sauce. Not sure if the person you spoke to was new or if they were confused, but I just wanted to add a note confirming the vegetarian items are in fact vegetarian and majority of them are vegan.
PING PONG IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES IN CHICAGO!!! I've eaten here so many times and am still in love. It is five stars in my eyes despite HC not allowing more than four stars.
FIVE STAR FOOD ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Review written in 2013 (still feel the same):
The vegan food at Ping Pong is INCREDIBLE!!!
The good:
+ Buddhist Enlightenment - The seitan and tofu ribbons coupled with the glass noodles and expertly flavored soy broth is seriously out of this world.
+ Scallion Pancakes - Amazing, great flavor and texture.
The bad:
- The veggie spring rolls - Highly not recommended
In sum, this is now my FAVORITE CHINESE RESTAURANT EVER! I will be back many times, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Owner is a Trump supporter. - Edit
The owner was at the insurrection and posted about it on social media. If that’s the kind of business you wish to support, go for it.
