Best buffet in Rio - Edit
STOP PRESS: it's now fully vegan! Well, it's not really stop press - it's been fully vegan since they replaced the honey in the dressings with molasses four years ago. Confirmed with the owner via the WhatsApp link on their website.
Read moreI've been coming here for 15 years whenever I visit Rio. Here's my first review from 2008:
"I visited five of Rio's Happycow-listed buffets during my recent stay in the city, and this was the best of the lot. Fully vegetarian, probably fully vegan, with a good variety of tasty items at a decent price."
Fifteen years later, I've been seven times in two weeks, and it's still very good. Unusual items like seitan and curried cauliflower, and with the usual staples and excellent salads too - everything always delicious. There's a day-by-day menu published on their website each week if there's something specific you wanted. Don't worry if the menu says fish - it's vegan tofu and seaweed not the real thing.
It's open weekday lunchtimes (except holidays) and at these times it's not dangerous at all - it's in the middle of a busy shopping area which is perfectly safe during shopping hours. It's a skip and a jump from Tiradentes tram stop and still an easy walk from Saara/Presidente Vargas metro.

Vegan buffet - Edit
The day we went everything there was vegan. The staff was very friendly and there were a lot of food choices. It tasted fresh and there were some really creative salads and sauces to choose from. You pay by weight of your plate.

Great option of healthy vegetarian dishes in downtown Rio. Also on Fridays is the traditional Brazilian dish known as "feijoada" in the vegetarian version. Nice to visit and check out!

great option in Rio's downtown - Edit
If you're vegan, just be careful to make sure that what you're getting is what you want it to be. To double check is always good when it cones to vegan places in Brazil

Desserts lacto vegetarian and vegan-labeled - Edit
Due to difficulties do find the "condensed soy", vegan version of sondensed milk used in Brazilian dessert recipes, Margarida, the owner of the restaurant, decided to make them with the conventional ingredient when the vegan version os not available.

Before get any dessert, ask her (she stays at the weighing machine) about milk on the desserts, even the vegan ones are labeled now.

A Good Average Restaurante - Edit
I visted this restaurante in 2003 and 200, then on the first floor and reminiscent of vegetarian places and the young art and student patronage in Covent Garden, London. The food was excellent then but this time, June 2008, it is under new management and more typical of other Brazilian vegetarian restaurants. A good variety vegan and vegetarian and well patronized by the office and shop workers.
