Absolutely delicious!

This is a real gem, even among the many great places Leicester has to eat. It's entirely vegetarian, with sooooooo many vegan options. We really were spoiled for choice, and I will make a point of going the next time I'm in Leicester.

The prices are also really low and the portions are very generous. The staff were nice and helpful when we asked about vegan dishes.

My favourite place to eat in Leicester

I always make sure that I visit Sardaar to eat when I visit Leicester. It's a vegetarian Punjabi restaurant with most of the dishes being vegan. They use dairy in some of the dishes but it's easy enough to see which ones are vegan & the people in there will tell you if you ask.

It's a no frills place that just does great Punjabi food, which is really inexpensive. I've worked my way through most of the vegan friendly items on the menu & everything that I have had has been great. The mashed aubergine dish is a favourite. The pumpkin kofta, aubergine & potato dry curry & samosas are all really good also.

Authentic cafe style food

Do note that this is a basic cafe without frills rather than a fancy restaurant. I wasn't sure whether to order at the counter or to find a table. I sat and waited to be noticed and my order was taken soon after arriving. I'll know next time. Also note that alcohol is not served. I didn't ask about BYO.

I chose 3 x samosas, chana mix (with lentils) curry and 2 chapatis along with a diet coke for just £7.50. The all vegetarian menu doesn't mark the vegan dishes however the owner was happy to confirm that.

The food arrived quickly, all at once. The samosas were delicious and the curry was good too. I would go back again.

Pros: Tasty nutritous food, Food arrived quickly , Inexpensive. Oh yes.

Cons: Was not acknowledged when I arrived, Drove around looking for a parking spot, Appearance lets down a good cafe don't be put off

Tasty, friendly, healthy

The food is neatly portioned with lovely bread they make themselves to accompany it. It seemed healthy to me, barely any oil at all which was great. It was also very reasonably priced.
I found the flavours full and deep, and the lentils had a nice consistency. The man gave me my dessert for free. Nice :)

Pros: Cheap, Friendly, Healthy

Cons: TV in restaurant

The best samosas you’ll ever try.

I often go here to buy samosas as they are always freshly cooked (so still hot), massive in size and filled quite big and you get 3 for £1.20!
The other vegan food on the menu is always delicious and the family who own the restaurant are lovely.

Taste Sensation

Fantastic simple, cheap and functional all day diner serving sensational Indian vegetarian and vegan food. Set on Narborough Road, a fascinating multicultural food empire featuring many pure vegetarian establishments. With no less than 40 food options available ranging in price from £1.20 for savoury lentil cakes to £5.99 for a full on Thali you need a few minutes to compose yourself before ordering. Vegan choice is excellent, all you have to do is go without any yogurt topping and replace any paneer cheese dish with potatoes. Fortunately, my nephew (a meat eater who appreciates the delights of vegetarian food) had the whole thing covered ordering Samosa chaat (samosa covered with a delicious chick pea curry), chilli paneer and a few roti breads to soak up the sauces. Such were the portion sizes we had to take the chilli home as a take away option. I'm writing this whilst looking at the menu for reference and I'm already drooling thinking about what I would have next time.........

Pros: friendly, cheap, excellent food

Good Stuff

Reliable cheap curry place. Good for a night out with a load of mates as there's always loads of food, so is good to share it. Count your samosas if you buy a load to take out though, they've given us some short on a number of occasions!
