Afghan restaurant with great vegan options

Cozy little restaurant serving Afghan cuisine. Food was flavorful and comforting. Vegetarian options were easy to make vegan as you just had to omit the yogurt sauce. Very good tea selection. Owner was warm and hospitable

Pros: Many vegan options, Very easy to make vegetarian dishes vegan

Tiny but bright

Spring cafe is a tiny place. Despite it’s bright colors, it’s easy to walk past. It’s worth searching for. It’s one of those super tiny places out of place and time compared to the rest of Hampden. It’s more small town European in feel, where the one worker, is the owner, is the chef. The food is made with care of that type of place. All dishes are the type that are cooked all day. The menu is as tiny as the place but has a few vegetarian items easily made vegan by omitting yogurt. They’re mostly slow roasted pumpkin or eggplant. I had the eggplant, which was creamy and rich. The familiar middle eastern spices with small changes of black pepper and chili oil to make the dish unique.

Hidden Jewel

This tiny eatery, hidden among the shops and restaurants of "The Avenue" in Hampden, offers delicious, healthy food in a warm and cozy setting. Their website states, "We treat you not as a customer, but as family." Most of the menu is vegetarian or vegan or can easily be veganized. The two items I tried were Kabul Chaynaki, a hearty vegetable and chickpea stew, and Sabzi, a mildly spiced spinach dish. Both were flavorful and satisfying! All entrees come with a two pieces of Afghan bread. The ambiance is much like a teahouse, and the menu features a number of exotic teas, such as Butterfly Pea Flower.

AMAZING

The food is amazing, the service is amazing and delicious!! Tried their peach tea and some vegan dishes, many vegan options. Should definitely give it a try. The owner is very friendly and the food is so different than the typical Afghani food that I've had. Please give it a try and see it for yourself!!

Pros: Unique Dishes, Friendly owner, Fresh food, so can make almost anything vegan

Cons: NOTHING
