Slightly chaotic! - Edit
A busy bakery with tables to sit at in a really cosy space. Very good coffee (oat flat white) and two vegan mains on the menu- a burrito and a spicy hommity pie. Unfortunately it was really busy when I was there and ordering was chaos- a huge queue and staff had no idea what food they had or which coffee was which. I ordered the burrito but was then told there weren’t any after all so was offered by the server a veggie burrito with dairy cheese…… ended up with the spicy homity pie; spicy was an understatement! Couldn’t really taste it because of the spice unfortunately. All vegan donuts were sold out. Maybe on another less busy occasion where the burrito and donuts were available it would have been a better trip.

Cons: I personally found the food too spicy, Only one vegan option left , Seemed chaotic and disorganised

Yummy Jam Doughnuts, Adequate for Vegans. - Edit
The Big Rock Cafe is a spacious family run cafe and bakery based on Porthmadog High Street. Big Rock can get very busy, and for good reason, as the food is prepared in the in-house bakery and the cafe itself is a very nice place to sit and eat as it features exposed stone and brickwork walls, gorgeous hardwood floors and a large skylight letting in tons of natural light.
Read moreThey offer breakfast and lunch, but the breakfast menu is very limited, and the only obviously vegan dish I could see on there was Beans on Toast, and this was not labelled as vegan. The lunch menu has lots of vegetarian options and two vegan options. They are the Vegan Burrito and a Spicy Butternut & Lentil Homity. Big Rock also sell freshly made bread, which I will assume is vegan, and they also had two unlabelled vegan sweet treats in their bakes display. These were a Jam Doughnut and a Coconut Macaroon. There were vegan crisps available to purchase in addition to a wide range of soft drinks, and there were plant milks available for coffees at an additional 50p.
The service here was really good, and there were plenty of staff on which resulted in a nice flow to form between ordering and waiting for prepared hot drinks. I had an Oat Flat White and Jam Doughnut. The coffee was really nice and the doughnut was so good that I already regret not buying extra to take home with me. I would absolutely return to The Big Rock Cafe for lunch based on my positive experience today, and I highly recommend any nearby vegans pop in to try the delecious jam doughnuts. Just to add, I feel I should mention that this is a Christian cafe, and religious quotes are all over the place primarily in the form of posters and napkins, so this may not be conducive of a comfortable atmosphere for some people. Additionally, as a trigger warning, I have seen on past reviews that there have been anti-abortion signage in the cafe, but I didn't spot any during my visit today.
Pros: Good Staff, Nice Space, Vegan Mains Labelled, Tasty Jam Doughnuts, Good Coffee
Cons: Lacking Vegan Breakfast Options, Vegan Bakes UnLabelled, Extra Charge for Plant Mil, Could Do With More Vegan Mains

Great doughnuts! - Edit
Great cafe with good coffee. Not the widest vegan selection but what they have is lovely. We got some sweet potato soup that was very hearty and tasty. Followed by some cracking vegan jammy doughnuts.

Best burrito! - Edit
I had the vegan cheezy burrito, an oat milk latte and a jam doughnut. They also had a lentil pie option and carrot cake. One of the best burritos I've ever had, super full and so tasty. Wish they would make more of the veggie options vegan cos they looked great too.

Fabulous food - Edit
There are a few vegan options here. Be sure to ask as not obvious when looking. I had a gorgeous jam doughnut and the monkey bread. Service was very friendly and happy to talk me through the options. Will definitely go here again. Dog friendly in the back of the cafe

Vegan - Edit
Only 1 vegan option when we visited which was the vegan burrito. It was toasted to order and tasted nice. Very busy and limited seats. Great service from the staff.

Located in the heart of Porthmadog. They provide a choice of some vegan wholesome options. However they do sell out. Recommend going at the start of the day. Dog friendly.

Limited but tasty vegan food - Edit
The offerings change from day to day and you can tell the food is good - some of it sells out real fast just a couple of hours after opening so if you want something make sure to go early.
