Always great food - Edit
Been here tons of times always forget to review. This is one of the Rochester favorites for every vegan as every other review says. Vegan comfort food in a warm inviting atmosphere, with lots of vegan sweets as well. Large menu that always has rotating specials as well, take out is pretty quick but you usually need a reservation for Friday Saturday. If your not from here this is a must go.

Fabulous Vegan Vibe and Food in Rochester NY - Edit
VegNews did an article about vegan friendly Rochester NY, and specifically mentioned Red Fern, and they were right on. My wife and I traveled from Miami to ROC and went straight to Red Fern, just ten minutes from the airport. Wonderful old neighborhood with houses built in the late 1800s. Red Fern is located in a part of one of these amazing houses. Such a cool vibe. Sit inside or outside on the quaint corner. Service is excellent and the food is first rate. Wide selection of plant-based options, hard to choose, but everything is fresh and delicious. Must go! And then must drive just one hour to Watkins Glen area to visit two of the best animal sanctuaries in the country - Farm Sanctuary and Sweet Farm. Tours are available.

My true addiction - Edit
I moved to roc 4 years ago but first went to the red fern 7 years ago. I totally manifested finding a Rochester husband in order to get me closer to the red fern 🤣. I get the compost plate (at least) once a week. I get it with lentil burger and double Mac salad. It truly is my favorite food. The cakes are phenomenal. The specials are amazing. The staff is kind, and the owner donates tons of money to local animal charities. I absolutely love this business and all of the food 🩷

Great find! - Edit
I was so excited to find this place after a week in a rural town with only veggie burgers.
Read moreSo many great options here. The baked Mac and cheese was amazing. Very creamy and filling.
My husband had the loaded nachos— with so many toppings it’s like nothing you’ll ever have anywhere else. We also share the quesadilla which was also excellent.
This is a must have if you’re in Rochester.

Eclectic - Edit
Quality creative diner food. They have a compost plate - the vegan version of Rochester's regional specialty -Garbage Plate.
Read moreThey also have a whole bakery case that always has amazing things including beautiful cheesecakes theater are browned on the top edges. Lots of GF options, too.
I've had many things but recently came in for an eggs Benedict brunch special with Yo Eggs. It was great.

Get the cheesecake! - Edit
Delicious food and a very friendly staff! Came here with a group from work that all had various dietary preferences/restrictions, and The Red Fern accommodated us all. It was probably the first time that all of us could order everything on the menu😄the lentil burger (loaded!) was great, along with the soup of the day. But omg the cheesecake! Get the cheesecake. It's awesome.

Meh mains, fab desserts - Edit
First the praise: the desserts are to die for and absolutely worth a visit (or several). The food, however, was just meh. Everything seemed gloppy and coated in some kind of sauce; not just what we ordered but also what was on neighboring tables. I’ll go back to grab some desserts to go, but that’s about it.

I want to give 6 stars! ⭐️💛 - Edit
I can’t recommend Red Fern enough!! The menu has a lot of variety and such creative, good food. The desserts are delicious. I especially loved the cheesecake.
Read moreIn spring when I went, they had both indoor and outdoor seating. The atmosphere and decor are sweet and cheery. The cost was on the lower end of what I usually see for comparable restaurants and I was surprised how small the bill was for the quality of the food and atmosphere!
To reiterate… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Pros: Sweet and cheery atmosphere, Great food and great variety , Two all-gender restrooms

Great find - Edit
Driving through Rochester for a day and was excited to find this.
Read moreGreat range of vegan food and so much of it looked awesome. Would go back in a heartbeat though the food was a bit hit and miss for me.
I’m not going to dock them a star when i think it’s clearly a great spot but I must say I didn’t enjoy their “garbage plate.” It was a bit weird and like a strange buffet at your friends on thanksgiving. Apparently it’s a local speciality so maybe it makes sense to the people of Rochester but not me.
The quesadilla was great.
The side salads could use some work. All a bit over dressed and sad.
The place was packed and it might sound like I’m being negative but honestly I still had a great time and everyone’s food i saw looked great- think I ordered badly.
Also unlike many vegan places, this was a nice cosy spot that you could take family or a date. A real restaurant not just a little cafe.
Pros: Nice location , Loads of options , Great service
Cons: The garbage plate dish was not for me

always amazing. When I leave Rochester I have withdrawals :,) I’ve taken a cheese making class with the owner which was really cool. They’re always doing something to raise money and awareness for animal rights which feels so good! #Veganuary

Excellent! A must visit in Rochester! - Edit
Everything in this place is perfect - the food, the atmosphere, the staff! We had several dishes and everything was tasty. I especially like that they make so much themselves. It's not just a lot of pre-made faux meat and commercial "cheeze" here, it's real food. Dessert was amazing and there are options for indulgence and if you just want something more fruit and nutty too. Big variety, friendly staff, there's really no downsides to this place. Love, love, love

Top notch! 😋 - Edit
This is a relaxed, sit-down/waiter-served restaurant that has a large and creative all-vegan menu. I had a "Compost Plate" (a vegan version of the Rochester standard dish known as a "garbage plate") and a cherry cheesecake; both were great. My friends had other things: mac & cheese, burrito, lentil burger, and a stew--and everyone enjoyed their meals. This seems to be a must-visit place while in Rochester.

Excellent - Edit
The Red Fern has a varied menu, offering everything from Vegan "comfort" food to healthy options, including oil-free, gluten-free, soy-free, garlic-free, onion-free, and/or nut-free menus, for those with particular sensitivities or health concerns.
Read moreI was seated and promptly attended to by "E" who provided service with a smile, going above and beyond in spite of being incredibly busy.
After attending the T. Colin Campbell Whole Food Plant Based Wellness Retreat for the past five days, I wanted to keep the momentum going, and so I ordered the seasonal "Autumn Leaves" salad, topped with a steamed Lentil burger, which proved to be both tasty and satisfying, as well as visually appealing. My only critique is that it needs to be served in a bigger/wider bowl as it is substantial.
For dessert, I ordered 1 each of the raw "bites" (which are sweetened with dates; not sugar): apple and German chocolate. They were both exquisite but I must say, the chocolate knocked it outta the park. I ordered 1 more of each to go for my travels back to NYC tomorrow.
Oddly enough, The Red Fern isn't open on Sundays/Mondays (they'd be packed for Sunday brunch if they were open Sundays, for sure!). Nevertheless, I highly recommend - I would definitely return if I ever find myself back in Rochester, NY.
Pros: Varied menus for those with food sensitivities., Excellent service, Reasonably priced

The best vegan restaurant! - Edit
We went twice in one day on a visit! Their menu hasn’t changed much since we last visited five years ago, but that’s ok because it’s all so tasty! I did get the kale salad and wasn’t a big fan (it was a lot of kale, it wasn’t massaged, and the pieces were uncomfortably big) but the sandwiches and plates are delicious! Their desserts are to die for as well!
Read moreService is great. In our rush to get out of the restaurant with a fussy toddler, we left our bamboo and silicone toddler spoons and didn’t notice until the next morning. I called to see if they found them, though I expected they had probably been tossed, but they weren’t! They had put them to the side and we were able to pick them up the next night. I very appreciated that.

Went for anniversary! Place is a little small but the service was great and the food matched! We started with the fruit and cheese plate then had the Mac n cheese nachos with all the toppings, it was so good!!! Then moved on to the steak bomber was great! My new favorite dessert is the peanut butter rice crispy treat!!! Heavenly!!! One thing I did learn is make a reservation to make sure I can eat there again. I will be eating there again can't wait to try more things!!

Such a great vegan place in Rochester - Edit
We'd heard of the Red Fern before we arrived in Rochester and were excited to try it. We weren't disappointed. The food is amazing, the two draft kombuchas we got to drink were heavenly and everything on the menu looked good. We brought a non-vegan friend with us on our second visit, and they also thoroughly enjoyed it. Vegans and non-vegans alike, this is the place to go!
