Nice place, some good Vegan options - Edit
I had the Vegan breakfast, my partner, the stack of pancakes. It feels like the hippest place in town, and even though it's small, it feels like a hub for meeting like-minded people in Wakefield. Nice!

Loved it here and would definitely go back. I had the pancakes which were very sweet, and a coffee. They have a good choice on the menu.

I want to give 4.5. A really nice spot with a very strong menu at reasonable prices. However we did have to wait a considerable amount of time for our food and when it came, it was very good, but did lack a bit of something that I can’t quite put my finger on

Highly recommended - Edit
It’s on the app as ‘vegetarian’ but the food is all vegan. The pastries and breakfast were delicious. I will be back again next time I visit Wakefield. All 4 of us loved our experience.

Lovely staff and great cake/coffee - Edit
We love Throwback as the staff are so kind and friendly, the cakes are delicious and the coffee is great too. I always feel spoilt for choice with the pastries and cakes on offer. 😊
Read moreThe coffees are yummy and there’s the option of syrups and vegan cream which is nice as a treat.
So nice to see a fully vegan cafe in Wakefield as the options are pretty limited elsewhere. Is great to be able to order a tasty brekkie or lunch, knowing that it’ll be delicious and all cruelty free/vegan.
We appreciate how child friendly the cafe is too 💕
Pros: Delicious food, especially French toast, brownies, Kind and helpful staff that go the extra mile , Lovely coffee and reasonable prices

Great pancakes - Edit
We popped in after a trip around Millington’s animal sanctuary. It was close to closing but they were happy to make a fresh batch of pancakes for us. They were delicious and one portion was enough for 4 of us to share as a small treat. The kids got vanilla cupcakes which were also very tasty. I’m sure we’ll be back to try the burritos.

Amazing to find a fully vegan cafe that actually had a good selection of cakes too. Food was great, loved the metal/rock vibe, but service was quite slow considering we ordered wraps and cake.

Decent! - Edit
Lovely to find a plant based cafe in Wakefield. Staff were super friendly and it had a lovely atmosphere. I had the tofu scramble, which was okay but lacked much flavour. The biscoff latte i had was really delicious. It is also a real shame that it offers dairy milk 😣

Cool coffee house - Edit
Cool coffee house with a nice vibe and friendly staff. We stopped off for some lunch and ordered the sweet and smoky wrap, a hummus rainbow wrap and sausage roll for our young son.
Read moreAs there were no wraps left, both dishes were served on toast but to be honest, I actually preferred the toast instead of the wrap. Each dish was packed full of flavour and absolutely delicious, while the sausage roll was also well seasoned and very tasty.
We also ordered a chocolate biscoff cake and a coffee cake but sadly both were a little dry and crumbly. The decaf iced coffee we got was very refreshing though. I would definitely visit again.

Lovely place for breakfast/brunch. - Edit
The food is always delicious and staff are very helpful. They also make the best biscoff hot chocolates!
Read moreThe cafe is slightly expensive but you do get quality. I just don't visit as often as I'd like to due to the price.
Edit to review, I've reduced the stars and I'm genuinely gutted about it. The new menu is just not good in my opinion, it seems to focus more on sweet breakfast options. Or nachos, or a breakfast burrito...or wraps. The savoury breakfast options were the best thing about this place e.g. full english/croque monsieur etc. Really gutted, won't be back until a menu has been changed to include more savoury actual breakfast items.
Edit 06/01/22: back up to 5 stars...savoury breakfast style items back available making it my fave cafe once again. Hurrah!

Great location, wakey needed this! - Edit
Loved the vibe, good taste in background music and loved the tattoo art on the walls. Food was nice and well-presented.
Read moreI presumed it was a fully vegan place going off reviews and the "plant-based cafe" sign outside. I had chosen soya milk for tea however the barista misremembered and brought cows milk to the table. She was apologetic and rectified this quickly and I totally can't fault her service as we all make mistakes - but I was only puzzled as I thought it was a fully-vegan place so would love this to be clarified.
It made me wonder whether the cream on the food I ordered was dairy because when I ordered I had assumed it was vegan cream - the menu didn't say vegan/veggie just "plant-based" at the top. I should've asked when I was still there, if the owners see this review and are able to respond, I'll be happy to change accordingly!
Don't let that put you off going though, I just recommend checking if fully vegan before ordering because I failed to do so & was too shy to ask once the food was served! 💚
Pros: Lovely coffee, Tasty food, Cool decor
Cons: Not clear if fully vegan or also vegetarian, Food took longer than expected to be prepared

Hey thanks for leaving such a lovely review, really glad you enjoyed your visit!
Read moreEverything we offer and prepare in the shop is vegan, including the whipped cream, the croissants and pastries, the cakes, the pancakes and the rest of the menu! So you're safe the whipped cream you received was definitely Vegan.
We carry a small amount of dairy milk in a separate fridge so that the option for "Regular Coffee"(whatever that means) is available to the general public in Wakefield. People are creatures of habit and new and different things scare a lot of people! We strongly believe that the best way to convert people away from dairy and towards plant based alternative milks is through education and information and by being friendly and non judgemental. People are comfortable with things they find familiar, If someone comes in for a dairy latte over time through conversation they give oat milk a try and most of the time are converted, sometimes they aren't and that's fine you can't win them all!
Thank you for visiting us and taking the time to leave us such a lovely review, I've taken your comments regarding the menu into mind and made some slight alterations to make it much more clear that the entire menu is Vegan/Plant based.

A lovely place with great food - Edit
I've been to Throwback many times now as it is very close to where I live and right in the centre of town. It is all fully vegan (I believe it was initially vegetarian and HappyCow have not yet reflected the change to fully vegan) and the food is really tasty. The drinks are good and there are always a wide selection of cakes to try, which you can take away if you've already filled up. The service is friendly and fast. The place can get quite full, but that's just a reflection on how great it is. Would recommend to any vegan (or someone willing to just try) in the Wakefield area.

Great Vegan Cafe - Edit
I came to Wakefield with my partner for a work trip. I went for a coffee and to do some work on the first day and then we both returned for breakfast the next day. The food was fantastic (we both had breakfast burritos) and the coffee was superb. Really nice decor and cool music on in the background. The staff were all friendly and welcoming; I'll happily go back if I'm ever in Wakefield again.
