Toshi-ally Worth It - Edit
A grand, classical-style atrium. A suave lounge singer producing smooth guitar licks of timeless tunes. An exquisite cocktail. Just some of the rather unexpected but highly welcome elements that I came across when attending this – what proved to be – fantastic brunch.
Read moreThere was an element of the unknown with all of this one, in truth. Of course, I had done my due diligence in terms of qualifying what options would be available to me, but beyond that I just merely hoped that the Asian flavours (being as it is probably my favourite cuisine) would be enough to elevate it to at least a ‘good’ standard, but it was far more than that thanks to two standout dishes, one particularly good tipple and some top-rate service.
Of the food, the first item that really curried my favour was the spring rolls. By no means a dynamic or exciting choice, but when they are done this well, they are a thing of beauty. To say I had my fair share of them would be a gross understatement; I actually managed to exhaust the supply, so voracious was my appetite for them.
The second offering, which took nearly as much hammering as its predecessor, was the Malaysian fried rice. Perfectly cooked and equally well-spiced, it was ridiculously moreish, as I can well attest.
As for the aforementioned libation, it was a riff on an espresso martini called a Coffee Whisper. Saccharine sweet yet very coffee forward, it contained both vodka and gin and went down far too easily. All I can say is that I’m glad I had plenty of carbs in my system to negate at least some of the after affects.
Good fun, great drinks, and even better fayre, all at a respectable price – I’d be a fool not to go back for another foray.
