SO delicious

I think this may be my new favourite vegan eats place in Toronto both for the dessert (out of this world) and for the food itself ("beef" curry is incredible). The cafe itself is really cute. They have a few meal type menu items available at one time - yesterday they had three options. They have a glass case with various desserts. So far I've had the silk flan (amazing!) and the Yuzu citron tart which I've had twice instead of trying a new dessert because it's so delicious. I highly highly recommend going here.

Pros: Delicious, fresh, high-quality, Incredible desserts, Great atmosphere

Cons: Not too many meal choices

Authentic Japanese supermarket quality

Being new in town, I took several guided tours. One of these guides said: Toronto has people from many countries and cultures. Therefore, there's always a restaurant with a cuisine of your choice and it will be authentic.

With that in mind I visited "Tsuchi", which means "bottom" or rather "from the bottom up" in Japanese. This signifies that all food is vegan from the base and everything is sustainable from the base. It also means that Tsuchi does things different. There's no sushi or ramen on the menu. Fun detail: even the utensils are not made from plastic, but from plants.

Recently many of the meals have been replaced with snacks (cheese cake, cupcakes, cookies, etc.) but three meals remain. Tsuchi offers vegan karaake (which is fried chicken in Japan) and curry rice (not to be confused with Indian curry). Since the curry rice has the most vegetables and no deep fried ingredients, I chose the curry rice. And there's no doubt about it: it tasted authentic. However, it tasted like authentic Japanese supermarket quality curry. There's nothing wrong with that, just that restaurants in Japan usually do a bit better in refinement, condiments (more vegetables) and presentation.

Yet, this being a vegan version and being available in Toronto is great news. Also, it's different from the endless offer of sushi and ramen, so I pay Tsuchi a visit!

Pros: authentic Japanese taste

Cons: Japanese taste, but not Japanese quality

Excellent Japanese cafe

This is a casual place with self service. I had the “beef” curry rice with the addition of 2 pieces of karaage. It was excellent. Ended the meal with mango cheese cake slice and yusu meringue start slice. All excellent!

Matcha Tiramisu

I love it here. The matcha tiramisu might be the most delicious dessert I’ve ever had! Cheesecakes are also lovely!

Best Japanese dessert in Toronto!

Rotating menu, not many choices per day but different items on different days of the week. You do not need many choices though, everything is fantastic! Probably the only vegan Japanese dessert place in town and SO well done!

Pros: Delicious

Gorgeous place, phenomenal coffee and eats!

The place is so aesthetically beautiful and so different from the usual cafe types I’ve visited, their treats and sandwiches are so tasty, and their coffee was crafted with love and good energy. The employees were so kind and so helpful as well.

Thank you so very much!

Pros: 100% Vegan, Small, yet memorable menu, High quality products, reasonable prices

Nice patio but little choice

Helpful and very friendly staff. Nice patio on college street. Food was good but very little choice. Only one fresh whole food item which was a salad. Hot dish was served on white rice with no option for whole grain. Would have liked to give a 3.5 but cannot.

Pros: Friendly staff, Nice patio

Cons: Very little choice, Very little while fresh food, White rice no whole grain option

Holy! Incredible!

The most original, tasty vegan food to come to Toronto is a LOOONG while. I've eaten tons of different offerings including Karage, Karage sandwich, cook at home ramen, desserts... Karage is "fried chickn" and seriously it's the best fried chickn in the city now. (And I've tried EVERYTHING!) A friend of mine keeps saying the vegan ramen in the city is pretty lack luster flavour wise - I keep telling her to try Tsuchi! You even get amazing vegan MEAT with your meal!

The desserts are well... just unbelievable.

The prices are for high quality food. It's not cheap, but it's not through the roof either. It's no where near the highfalutin new vegan places that I just don't have the potatoes for.

If I lived in the neighbourhood, I'd be eating there every day! I have so many more options that need trying😄

Pros: superb flavour, excellent selection of unique desserts, take home to cook ramen

Cons: not open monday and tuesday, sometimes closed at weird times (soft opening?)

Amazing vegan Japanese food

I love their karaage and curry, and their vegan matcha tiramisu is amazing. If I lived closer I think I'd be there every week!

simply delightful Japanese cafe

walking into this Japanese designed space is like walking into a cool breeze. everything neat and feeling just so simple and lovely and just as it should be. then you see the desserts and your heart starts to speed up a little! the soft layers of the tiramisu! the silky flan! the creamy cheesecakes! and then there is the other thing, that could be a dessert because it is so darn fine -the Shokupan bread, airy and light and a little sweet. so of course you have to have the sandwiches, or a slice of the bread with their always delicious soups. and you must must not leave without trying the Karaage "chicken", which is devilishly addictive (if you allow yourself the occasional deepfried treat).
still have to try the other goodies like the delicate looking little donuts, and cookies...so my work here is not yet done.

oh yes, and you can buy their flavour-filled umami bursting sauces and dressings!

Pros: excellent food!, friendly staff, cool, refreshing vibe

Cons: a little more veggies in sandwiches please!, a little less plastic please

Hidden Gem

Phenomenal vegan bakery. The cheesecakes in particular are lovely. Nothing overly sweet, the flavours are authentic and delicate. Staff is SO lovely. A must visit.

Delicious and fun!

I really enjoy coming to Tsuchi cafe and it reminds me of the vegan food I had in Japan. The cheesecake, karaage, hojicha latte, and tiramisu are all great choices and I can't wait to try more next time. It is relatively expensive but it's worth the quality and unique plant-based options. Can't wait to return!

Pros: The best vegan tiramisu I've had!, Crispy and fresh vegan karaage , Quick and friendly service (Pick-up order)
