Bircher? I Hardly Know Her - Edit
In a veritable sea of high-end hotels perched upon the walk in the JBR, the establishment in which this restaurant resides stands proudly as one of, - if not the most - luxurious of them all. Anticipation for what was to come was therefore at near fever pitch, but even with such lofty expectations, I wasn’t quite prepared for what I discovered.
Read moreDue to the inordinate number of buffets I have frequented, it takes something extraordinary to impress me. So when I say I was taken aback, trust me - it was special. Even before inspecting the offerings, the sheer scale of the spread was jaw-dropping. It was easily one of the largest I’ve ever encountered. While a significant portion wasn’t tailored to those of a vegan persuasion, the dizzyingly eclectic variety on display was something to behold: sandwiches, ice cream, cakes… and this was just breakfast. Undoubtedly this would constitute madness for some, but in my eyes, it was pure heaven.
Keen to take advantage of this culinary maelstrom, I grabbed my bowls and went to work. Starting off with the customary fruits, it wasn’t long before I was savouring lashings of luscious lentil soup, pails of porridge laced generously with maple syrup, and piles of near-perfect aloo parathas. Oh, and the odd bowl of chips, for good measure.
Of course, I couldn’t forget the old classics. Staples such as hash browns, baked beans and foul moudamas were wolfed down en masse as, like the aforementioned dishes, they were sublimely executed. This wasn’t just quantity, there was real quality on display, too.
Yet none of these stellar offerings were the true standouts for me at this feast - that honour went to the bircher muesli. Admittedly, not the most glamorous of selections, but there was an unquantifiable idiosyncrasy that I just couldn’t resist. The only reason I stopped eating it was because I apparently exhausted the supply of it.
If you’re searching for an all-you-can-eat experience that transcends the typical, this is it. Exceptional variety, impeccable execution, and a setting as refined as the food itself - you’d be hard-pressed to find better.
