Wonderful guide to the vegan side of ortigia - Edit
If you are a vegan visiting ortigia, this is the perfect introduction! Tonia took us on a fun, delicious and interesting tour through the historic island and she doesn't only know the stuff you'll find online. She knows that one super delicious cake in the cosy café that is vegan (but not labeled, because it traditionally is without animal products) and where you can find the best vegan arancini.

An All-Around Wonderful Experience - Edit
Tonia's Vegan Street Food Tour is an all-around wonderful experience. This is SO much more than a vegan food tour! As we walked around the island, we also got to take in some of the beautiful and historic sights, while Tonia told us about the local history. By the way, she's fabulous! She is funny, insightful, engaging, and more. What is more, it was delightful to witness the fun relationships she has with people at the eateries we stopped at! On that note, the food was fantastic! From sweet to savory, over the course of 3-hours, we got to enjoy a (more than) full-meal treat. We can't recommend this tour enough!

We stopped along the way for 4 different treats (included in the street food tour), which were all delicious while she shared stories and histories behind the food. My mum and I had a fantastic time with Tonia on our vegan food tour of Ortigia. I'll start with the FOOD because that's what everyone's here for haha and it really was some of the best vegan food I ate in Sicily. Especially the arancini and fruit tart! My mum is a non-vegan and said she didn't miss not having her regular food at all because it was all so delicious! I really recommend the tour for vegans and non-vegans alike, it suited me and my mum both, as foodies.
Read moreTonia was a wonderful guide - a great storyteller, really friendly and caring, super prepared for everything and very attentive (bringing bottled water for us to stay hydrated in the sun, a rubbish bag, wet wipes for our hands after eating our delicious food, etc). We joked a lot and my mum and I both agreed that it was like spending the afternoon with a friend. The tour itself was relaxed yet informative and very interesting, and Tonia was always open to our questions, and even when she couldn't answer, endeavoured to find out and expand her knowledge. Tonia was well informed about the local landmarks and wider history and culture of Sicily, as well as throwing in some cool Sicilian-based vegan facts! She kindly also offered to take photographs of my mum and I and was a great photographer, which is always nice when you're on holiday just the two or you as it's hard to get photos together. After the tour Tonia kindly took the time to answer my questions about other vegan recommendations in the area - we need to come back already!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the time spent with Tonia. We visited Siracuse after season so many places were closed down for the winter or refurbishment but Tonia found the other places and let us try some delicious sweet and savoury traditional Sicilian food. Food was amazing and we had a great time because Tonia is such a lovely person. It was like going out with a friend to try out some lovely vegan food. Thanks Tonia for a great afternoon!

Had a great time on this food tour with my partner. Tonia took us around Ortigia, sharing some history about the area, whilst stopping at different food places at just the right times. It was a lovely pace and relaxed atmosphere. Would highly recommend to do this at the beginning of your trip to Siracusa, as we did it at the end but would have loved to go back to some of the places again!

We had a really nice time with Tonia in Ortigia. She showed us a lot of restaurants with vegan options and we were able to try some of it like the arancina with pistachios 😁 All the food we ate at the tour was very delicious. She also told us a lot about the history of Ortigia and a cool math fact about Pythagoras and veganism. The tour is absolutely recommended and a good idea to do it in the beginning of your trip to Syracuse.

It was wonderful!. Who knew Sicily has so much "accidentally" vegan food? Panelle (simple chickpea flour fritters) are my new favorite. Tonia is a delight and her enthusiasm for both veganism, delicious food and Sicily are infectious. She clearly did her homework to find the hidden gems. And we learned more about the history of Sicily and the vegan philosophy of its ancient philosophers. It was truly food for body and mind. And did I mention the panelle?
