Such fun creating your own sushi! - Edit
Secured a reservation in advance for a table for 2. Although there were still available seats when I arrived at 6pm on a weekday, the entrance said it was sold out so I’m glad I could snag a reservation. Seats about 10 people. Very serene and calming atmosphere. You take off your shoes and enter an all-wooden oasis of a space.
Read moreOrdered the Teori-sushi YOH and additional Black sesame tofu and seasonal tea set. Both dishes lended themselves to a really unique and fun way to eat delicious food! Really loved the concept of make-your-own-sushi! Very creative process. Also deceptively very filling.
The restaurant seemed to have been operated by one woman, who was also very nice!

One of the best places in Kyoto - Edit
This is one of the most interesting and delicious places I've ever been. It’s a place that truly allows you to get to know Kyoto. I’m honestly overwhelmed with emotion when I think about the fact that such a café exists. This is a unique spot that absolutely deserves a Michelin star. I’m grateful to the chef, who is probably also the owner—I’m not sure—thank you for this amazing experience. You are like a true artist, a creative individual who crafts works of art. Thank you for making it all vegan!
Read moreI was amazed that only one person works here, yet they manage everything perfectly. This deserves respect and admiration.
Let me describe it in order:
- To enter the café, you walk down a narrow path surrounded by beautiful greenery; it feels like something out of a fairy tale.
- The chef greets you, you take off your shoes, and put on comfortable slippers.
- Inside an old traditional Japanese house, everything is made of wood. It’s a beautiful minimalist interior with a Japanese garden and a view of lovely moss-covered stones.
- I liked the design of the menu; it’s well done.
- We were served a prepared set so we could make our own rolls. The nori paper was perfect, and all the ingredients were very tasty.
- We tried two desserts and cocktails. I wasn’t very fond of the drinks—they were too sweet for me.
I recommend this place to everyone. I would add it to the top of the best spots in Kyoto.
Pros: Sushi set , Desserts

Must go, incredible experience - Edit
Best dining experience I've had in Japan! Food is exceptional, every mouthful was delicious. Atmosphere of the restaurant is stunning too.
Read moreThe non-alcoholic beer I ordered was just a standard Suntory brand bottle (disappointed it wasn't something more special), but otherwise everything was exquisite.
Do not miss!

Incredible, well worth booking this peaceful restaurant! The price is completely aligned with the quality and craftsmanship of flavour, presentation, and class of local ingredients. It’s so far out of the league, best fine vegan dining in Kyoto by far!

An experience - Edit
This was truly such a special experience. From the gorgeous entrance outside, to the cute low entrance door, slippers to change into, to the serene atmosphere inside and of course the food itself.
Read moreThe presentation was absolutely stunning and the flavours were so complimentary and unique (from a western perspective anyway.)
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique experience and delicious food. Just remember to make a reservation!

Truly unique, once in a lifetime experience - Edit
Visiting Japan all the way from Canada, this was a once in a lifetime dining experience for me.
Read moreThe entire event, from walking down the narrow path to get into the restaurant, to the ambiance of the interior, to the food itself was just a little odd and wonderful (especially for a tourist like me). The food was pretty much all completely esoteric, to the point I really didn't know what vegetable preparation I was eating - thank goodness the dinner came with a little "map" of what each item was. So much care was put into this food, it was all delicious.
Note: when we made our reservation, there was a section to note limitations. I did express that we do not eat honey, so I don't know how this impacted the outcome of our dessert. If you are worried about this, skip dessert.
At first I felt very intimidated to be in this serene, somewhat serious atmosphere eating food like this that requires you to assemble yourself - I didn't know if there were certain rules about the whole process. Don't be like me, just enjoy the process!
You must absolutely reserve your table well in advance, which was easy to do via their website - the place was sold out and only available to those with reservations the night we were there. Make sure you are reserving the Nishikiyamachi location, and not their other one as they serve meat there.

Really great build-your-own sushi 🍣 - Edit
I had a wonderful time at AWOMB!
Read moreThe staff was super friendly and the venue was intimate and beautiful. The plating was amazing, and the taste was really nice.
The concept is that you get ready-made bites on a plate, that you yourself put in a nori sheet with rice. I ended up not doing that as much, but overall a good experience.
The flavour profile was quite neutral, and I wish the flavouring plate with wasabi, ginger, umeboshi etc. was bigger so that each bite could have more taste and depth.
Overall, a wonderful experience though and would absolutely go again 🫶🏻
Pros: Beautiful plating and venue , Very friendly staff, Tasty

Incredible Make Your Own Sushi Experience - Edit
A unique make your own sushi experience that is a must-visit for Kyoto. Over a dozen different sushi fillings are beautifully presented, with unique combinations of veggies, fruits, and spices. Very reasonable price of ~$25 USD for the quality, but need to reserve in advance!

One of the best meals of my whole life - Edit
I don’t even know how to write a review about this experience. If you can get a reservation, do it. We got the premium plate which was a little more expensive but so worth it. Everything was incredible. Service was lovely. The restaurant is beautiful. Sake offerings are perfect. This meal would easily be $100 pp or even more in many US cities. This was such a special meal that I will remember for the rest of my life.

A unique experience - Edit
Reservation required, you can do so on their website without much trouble, there is an English version. The shop is a bit hidden away. Definitely worth finding though, a sushi experience unlike any other. There is plenty of English support, including a menu that shows you how everything is laid out on the plate so you know exactly what each food item is. Try the dessert as well.

fantastic vegan experience - Edit
It was my very first vegan restaurant experience, and absolutely satisfying. They have only one main platter on their menu, but it is like 15 finger food(ish) set with soup, sushi rice which has a hint of fruit flavour, nori-sheets in order to make your own sushi(Temaki-sushi in Japanese). The menu changes every month. It was impressively tasteful. Also it was quite fun to make Temaki-sushi with the unique materials. I think your non vegan friends also can be happy with it like I could.
