It Had It’s Chamo-ments

Unearthing this restaurant’s existence led to an unshakable pining to sample what they had to offer; the tantalising promise of something different from the norm had me suitable intrigued. So, when the first opportunity arose, I dove in wholeheartedly and ordered all that I could.
The first notable thing about this menu is that it is appears to have designed with Super Mario in mind as it is very mushroom forward. Not an issue for a fungi fan such as myself, but if those less enthused by supping on spores, you will find available options in short supply. That said, for those willing to venture into mycological territory, some solid offerings await. Of the three main dishes I feverishly devoured, the tacos were easily the best; an exemplary blend of balanced flavours and textures. The flatbreads, despite being rather tasty, were a distant second, and bringing up the rear was the mushroom loaded fries. It’s not that they were inherently bad, far from it, they simply lacked the interest and harmony of their counterparts.
When it came to the sides, they boasted plenty of positives, but there was one (ironically) enormous drawback: portion size. The fries were ample enough, and I could at a push just about forgive the cauliflower pakoras and the rather superb plantains, as these were more specialised creations. However, when it came to the jalapeño sweet potatoes and the pickle fries, my capacity for absolution hit its limit. ‘Paltry’ would easily cover what was dished up for the sweet potatoes, and as for the pickle fries, they were a sorry sight. Their unnecessary large container only further emphasised how laughably pitiful the serving was. More infuriating still, both of these items were excellent.
This meal left me feeling somewhat torn. I genuinely enjoyed much of what I had, but it didn’t ignite the sort of passion that demands a swift return. Perhaps this was a one-time fling rather than the beginning of a long-term affair.
