Best Indian restaurant in nairobi - Edit
This is the best Indian veg food I've eaten outside India. Staff is great. We had the business lunch, so we had the opportunity to tried a few dishes, which were all very good. Try gajar ka halwa for dessert. It's mind blowing!

Kinda understand vegans and yummy - Edit
Wonderful restaurant- I highly recommend. They were happy to talk about what was vegan on the menu - and noted to chef to make sure no animal products were used. The Chana masala I had was very yummy and filling.

Great pure veg Indian food in Nairobi - Edit
Nice clean place, cool views from this second story restaurant.
Read moreWe had veg Manchurian with rice, along with a starter of pani puri. Food was plentiful, decently affordable, and tasty. Would definitely recommend to any vegetarian but vegans need to ask about everything that might have dairy just to make sure!
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Tasty food
Cons: Interesting location

Delicious vegan food - Edit
I was never at the restaurant itself but ordered some food. I always wrote them that it should be vegan and when the food arrived it was written at the package. So very trustful for me when it comes to vegan, because I have the feeling they understand what vegan means.. aaand the food so delicous. My favourite dish are the "special garlic mushrooms" they taste a bit like chicken wings. Really recommend Chowpaty :)

Good flavors - Edit
We ordered the chana marsala and Szechuan noodles. Flavors were pretty good. While the menu is quite big, it would have been great to have vegan options marked, as it seems ghee, paneer, and yoghurt are used in nearly every dish. I was surprised that it wasn't possible to make the Thai red curry vegan, which is strange as dairy and eggs are never present in this dish. More tofu dishes would have been great as a protein substitute.

Wide selection easily veganised - Edit
A wide (and somewhat bewildering) choice of vegeterian Indian, Chinese and Italian dishes. Although vegan options not stated, vegan requests are readily understood and most dishes can be veganised. For this alone, it feels like an oasis in meat heavy Nairobi restaurants. Dishes may be variable and some heavily spiced but you can specify the desired chili heat.

Cons: Some dishes may be hit or miss

One of the best vegan options in Nairobi - Edit
I have been a regular customer at the Westlands and Diamond Plaza Chowpaty locations since I went vegan in 2016. The food at Chowpaty is delicious and hearty, and full of a variety of flavors. Generally the staff and ownership make a good effort to recommend and provide vegan options. There are lots of mushroom options - chili mushroom, garlic mushroom. You may just want to ask, especially if you take the Indian cuisine, that they use oil instead of ghee or butter.

Masala Dosa Fix! - Edit
The staff is knowledgeable about what is vegan, but may not use that term. Just say you don't eat anything cooked with butter, cream, milk or cheese and they'll understand which items to recommend if it's your first time. Definitely try the Pani Puri & Masala Dosa with coconut chutney! So good!

Good food - Edit
This place is definitely worth a visit. Nice interior, very friendly and helpful staff who will tell you which dishes are vegan or can be made vegan (they aren’t marked on the menu) and good food that will leave you full and satisfied. It’s also in a quite safe neighborhood as I’ve been told by locals, which is important in Nairobi 😄

Best Indian veg in Nairobi - Edit
I am an avid fan of Indian food so was delighted to discover Chowpaty in Westlands. Offering a broad selection of both north and south Indian fare, the quality surpasses any other Indian restaurant encountered in Nairobi.
Read moreThe interior is sleek and colourful with some Indian-themed designs. Staff are very well presented and helpful. The fact that the venue is typically filled with local Indians attests to its popularity.
At the end of the meal, I love the special touch of bringing you hot water in a bowl with lemon/lime juice to wash your hand(s) with.
One minor criticism: I like having saunf (Hindi for fennel seeds) at the end of the meal but have been repeatedly disappointed that they only offer the sugar coated variety. Even when I asked for plain fennel seeds, they were either unwilling or unable to supply them.
Pros: Good quality food , Very popular with local Indians
Cons: Could improve their vegan awareness

Good curry - Edit
Had a nice meal here in the heart of Westlands, yards from the party bars. As far as I could tell, we were the only non-Indian customers, so they're doing something very right with Indian food. Vegetable mixed grill starter was outstanding, split between two of us. Delicious naans. Rice was a total rip-off. Price seemed a bit high for what it was, but we both enjoyed it a lot and will definitely return.
