Super mock meat

Bon, savoureux, riche. Une bonne place pour les végé et pour aller souper avec des amis Omnis, ils vont tripper sur les fausses viandes.

Favorite

My top #1 all vegan food spot in Montreal. It's all Thai food, and all the meat is vegan. I HIGHLY recommend the Tom Kha soup and the Pad Palo

Great for a vegan date night 🌱💕

Delicious feast at ChuChai- definitely a great date night spot. Great if you have someone in your party who loves meat, some of the dishes were scary close to meat- the “duck” for instance was wild! So delicious

Pros: Great atmosphere , Lots of delicious vegan food, Great if with someone who loves meat

Cons: Little pricey but worth it

Semi fancy option for vegans

This place, along with sushi momo are the only places I find amazing for a special occasion in montreal. The food is unique and delicious. I tried the vegan duck, vegan chicken and the pad thai with vegan shrimp. Everything was great! The prtions for some plates seem small but in reality very filling.

Pros: Unique food

Cons: Expensive

Amazing

Went for a friend’s birthday. The food was amazing and we were impressed by the meat imitations. The menu has so many options. Not many dessert choices and the avocado mousse was not good.

Pros: Great variety, Very good dumplings, Fake meat is wow

Cons: Expensive, Dessert

Delicious!

Took my boyfriend to chu chai for his bday last year. Food was delicious...however its expansive for the portions they offer. It's also a little loud so not the best for something intimate...better for a group!

Pros: Great for a new vegan...many meat interpretations

Cons: Expensive

VEGAN Thai that has my heart

ChuChai is a one of a kind Thai restaurant...everything is 100% vegan. They have an abundance of mock meats and curries. I have been multiple times and I usually try new things...I haven't tried a dish I haven't completely loved.
Their wines drinks and coffees are also nice and the service is great! Don't miss out on the crispy duck and pad thai😄

Pros: 100% vegan Thai deliciousness , Great service, Food comes out in reasonable timing

for special occasions only

Chu Chai serves beautiful and tasty vegan dishes. All my non vegan friends loved it. Although its expensive and I think its only for special occasions, id definitely go back. The duck or peanut butter chicken are always a must! The table d'hote is worth a try too! (55$ per person tho)

Pros: delicious , good for your omni friends who don't want vegan , beautiful menu

Cons: expensive

4 Paws Up for Vegan Thai

Pad keemao was flavorful, fresh, and delightfully spicy. So delicious! My friend had a mock chicken and basil dish with rice that looked tasty. We went early for dinner and got a table, but the place quickly filled up. Reservations are a good idea.

Pros: All vegan

Good but could be better

As vegans, we were excited by the reviews and ordered more than we should have. We wanted to try everything. Even if my reviews of the food and service are mediocre deserving of 3 stars, this place deserves 5 stars for their vegan effort. The result is my 4 star review.

We started with the highly recommended Miam Kram (5 flavors) and the Het Waan Krob (mushrooms). I expected the Miam to be an explosion but it was bland. The sauce in the mushrooms tasted like ketchup, albeit very good ketchup.

We ordered 3 main dishes with “meat” because we usually eat tofu and vegetables and we wanted something different. Again, we opted for recommended dishes: Ped Palo (crispy duck), Koung Pad Makere (shrimp with eggplant), and Phra Ram Gai (chicken with peanut sauce). The duck was the best but none of them were showstoppers. The dishes were noted as being spicy but they weren’t. Perhaps we should have opted for the more traditional tofu/vegetable plates.

Lastly, service was poor. Perhaps they were not prepared for a busy Tuesday night.

Amazing

They had food, that I have never seen in any other vegan restaurant. All my friends liked the fried shrimp, for me it was too real (I know it's actually something good). I really liked the red curry with fake chicken. We all loved our food!

Pros: So many options

Cons: Expensive

Skip this experience

It was just ok. Tomato based Pad Thai that was nothing fancy, bland, and not memorable. The fried shrimp was good. The chicken satay was good. Not worth coming back. You can get a better vegan experience at a traditional Thai restaurant. Actually Thai express is better.

Pros: Full vegan

Cons: Expensive, Kind of bland, No straws for drinks served in tall glasses

Legendary

An absolute staple in Montreal for anyone, not just for vegans and vegetarians. Incredibly delicious, delicate and a good atmosphere, it’s perfect for a nice occasion. The service is very fast and the staff friendly. Their vegan crispy duck is probably the actual best dish in the city!

Good food, unbearably cold

The food was good, and so was the service. We made the mistake, however, of arriving around 17:00 as the restaurant was opening on an extremely cold day in mid-November. Never in my life have I eaten in such a cold restaurant, and I am someone who never complains about being cold. I sat during the first half of the meal in my coat (several of the other patrons did as well). Only when the place began to fill up around 18:30 did it begin to warm up. For a place this expensive, this kind of thing is unacceptable. It wasn't a little cold, it was FREEZING.

Pros: Good food, Good, friendly service, Nice ambience.

Cons: Unbearably cold., A bit overpriced , Some savory dishes a little too sweet.

Fantastic Vegan Fare in Montreal

Was visiting Montreal and stayed in the Mont Royal/Plateau neighborhood where we discovered this vegan gem. Beautiful decor, great service and unbelievably delicious all vegan Thai food. Well thought out cocktails were an added plus. Don't miss this one!

Highly recommended overall.

Loved!

We were 2 couples, sharing starters and mains and it was all amazingly good food, nice cocktails, and attentive staff. While we were raving about our meals we over heard a woman at the next table raving about her desert which looked like a chocolate tart, unfortunately we ate so much that desert was going to be impossible. It ended up being a bit pricey but SO, SO, SO worth it!

Always delicious

I'm never disappointed by Chu Chai! Although I've moved away now and can only get there once in a while, it is worth the trip. Highly recommend the crispy mock duck and the pad thai. Cocktails are extremely good as well.
Sit on the patio if the weather permits, and watch pedestrian traffic flow by.

Pros: Excellent food, Nice vibe, Attentive staff

Vegan Thai fusion

Chuchai will always be a staple for me when I feel like spending money. The duck (soy sauce or black pepper) is a must and I got the beef in curry sauce last time I went which was to die for. It is not cheap and the plates do not have a wife variety of ingredients (many menu items come with just what is written ie just the mock duck, no veggies or rice). Great if you are going to share because you can order a side of rice, a couple of mock meat dishes and a veg dish.

Excellent! Always enjoy coming back

Having travelled to Thailand a few times, I can say that this place is doing it right. The food has always been fantastic, with a layering of flavours (good counter-point of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy). The mock meats are well executed, especially the 'duck'. If mock meat does not float your boat, there are a number of tasty items on the menu.

The cocktails are fantastic...especially the MK2 (loved it!!!).

And then there's the ambience - a perfect night out in a sophisticated restaurant with good customer service. All of this said, you will pay for the experience, but it's worth it, in my books at least.

Pros: Food , Choice, Ambience

Cons: Price
