great food! very impressed - Edit
very happy with my experience at dc vegan! the atmosphere is very relaxed and wasn't super loud while i was there. there have indoor seating as well as a cute little lifted patio! i did miss the location and walk by it 2-3x before i identified that dc vegan was UP the stairs--definitely something to note before going.
Read morethe food was a 10/10! i really enjoyed my chicken caesar salad, and the cauliflower wings are divine! i can't even describe how much i enjoyed the carrot cake. it also wasn't difficult to find something that didn't contain any of my allergens, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu items.
if i am ever in dc again, i will definitely be coming back! one of my favorite vegan restaurants for sure.
Pros: great food, large menu
Cons: a bit hard to find the location, service was a bit lacking

Don’t understand the hype - Edit
Everyone always recommended this place to me, but the one time I went I was shocked by the prices and underwhelmed by the food. That doesn’t even account for the terrible service we had. We ordered three things, only got two of them, left a review and was offered a gift card, followed up with them and never heard back.

My go to spot in DC - Edit
Restaurant has a great ambiance and the servers are always friendly. The food is amazing and some of my favorite dishes are the potato skins, ricotta and herb foccacia, meatballs, and cacio e pepe. They have so many great options and it's a great date night spot too. Highly recommend!

Superb! - Edit
The food was amazing. I had the chicken piccata with broccolini and mashed potatoes. Every bite was delicious. The dessert options were plentiful and I took the NY style cheesecake and tiramisu to go. I will be back any time I’m in DC! The staff was also so lovely!

Great vegan food and deserts - Edit
Full vegan menu, lots of dessert options, tasteful food.
Read moreUnfortunately they have brunch until 3pm on the weekends and did not provide lunch menu at 2:30pm, which sounds crazy to me. But good food anyway.
Pros: 100% vegan, Deserts, Tasty
Cons: Extended brunch time and no lunch at normal hours, Vegan but many unhealthy options, Lack of natural juices / healthy drinks

Delicious eggplant Parmesan - Edit
So many options that I struggled to decide but opted for the eggplant parm sandwich & was glad I did. Italian themed but a varied menu with bowls, sandwiches, salads & Italian dishes. Selection of vegan cheeses & dessert!

We tried the French toast and breakfast burrito, both of which were amazing. I highly recommend the French toast, it was delicious.

Delicious Food, great customer service - Edit
Today was my fist time eating there as it was a gift from my daughter. The food was fresh, delicious and made with love! Sophie was an awesome server! Great birthday lunch!! I’ll be back. The Philly jackfruit sandwich tasty. I put pesto aioli on it which brought out more flavor!

Botanical Bar - Edit
I've been to DC Vegan a few times, but finally made it to the fancier menu at Botanical Bar downstairs. The chick'n piccata was good, but the vegan cheese board ($50) was well overpriced. Still, I'd go back but order something different!

Consistently delicious dinners, fantastic desserts and kind staff. We have visited many times and have never been disappointed. We were sad to see the Botanical Bar close downstairs but they incorporated the menu upstairs, love this place!

Amazing food. I didn’t even know what to ask, everything looked great. Me and my friends ordered three savory dishes and one dessert and everything was perfect.

I finally understand the hype - Edit
I’ve visited DC Vegan a few times over the years and, until recently, always left a bit disappointed. The hype never quite lined up with my experience. But finally, the food really was wonderful and nearly worth 5-stars.
Read moreHere’s the thing: when DC Vegan gets a dish right, they nail it. The rest of the menu, though, feels a bit mediocre.
The dishes that completely won me over this time were the Eggplant Parm Sandwich, Tiramisu, and the Focaccia. Flavorful, satisfying, and the kind of food that makes you want to come back.
Some of the items I tried on previous visits that had me swearing I’d never come back:
- French toast, which falls into that category of “vegans think this is good, but it’s actually really bad”—it just didn’t have the texture or flavor you’d hope for.
- Calamari, which wasn’t bad, but it was fairly bland
- Chesapeake Fritters, more so just not my cup of tea; I’m sure for the right person these are great.

Everything about this place is awesome! Our server (Eric) was fantastic, the food was delicious and the portions were generous. They have a dessert case and a well stocked cheese counter also!! 100/10 would recommend!

Great food, challenging price - Edit
Loved that this got added to the DC scene since I’ve lived here. Unique dishes, house made, great stuff! It’s too bad it’s as expensive as it is, but I get that’s the business state

An Absolute Gem: Don't pass it up and consider this place you're next restaurant outing! - Edit
DC Vegan is a cozy restaurant with its own vegan pulse. On a mission to make the world a better place, it was a delight to observe its different aspects of services. While walking in there's noticeably seating for dining and then in the back there's a deli and dessert bar which also has a bit of a coffee shop vibe. The service was fantastic and everything on the menu can be ordered blindly as each option is delicious or beyond.
Read moreWe ordered the cauliflower wing and focaccia as appetizers which were well portioned and fresh. We also had the chick'n marsala and the chick'n sandwich. I have never had a better chick'n or chicken marsala. This was undoubtedly the best chick'n marsala I have ever had in my existence. I am not sure the source of the recipe either for the chick'n, but it was uncanny and fantastic. What a treat!!
The ambience alone sells the place, but the food will bring us back. We're not local to the city, so it is a bit of a trip to get into the heart of Duponte in DC. Don't pass it up and consider this place you're next restaurant outing. The owner(s) were there also and were beyond hospitable and professional. The food was so delectable we ate it so fast we forgot to take pictures.

Love having DC Vegan available! - Edit
So happy that DC has a full-on vegan restaurant. There is a nice variety of entrees and sides, as well as desserts (though I've never had one). Drinks are nice too, as is the coffee. I like the variety of dishes. I've been here prob 8 times so far.

Perfect - Edit
I love this place. The staff is friendly and hardworking. The food is perfect. I had chicken with mashed potatoes and broccolini and it is the best. And amazing chocolate cake for dessert. I was a little confused that it was called a deli because it was a sit down restaurant with a cozy, intimate atmosphere and takeaway counter. I also loved the artwork of native DC animals. And upstairs is a yoga studio! So beautiful!

Amazing - Edit
We were traveling with a dog so had to do takeout but still enjoyed every single thing that our family of four ordered from DC Vegan. My favorite was the chicken sandwich and whoppie pie. We might go back again today!

overpriced - Edit
enjoyed the wide variety of desserts. the tres leches was wonderful. we went for brunch. we ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich. it was tasty, but felt over priced for what was provided ($17 for just a sandwich, adding fries or another side was extra). we also ordered the wild mushroom truffle omelet which had a lot more to it, but for the price of $27). overall, the food was good but expensive for what we received.

It'll do in a pinch - Edit
The place is cute. The service is down-to-earth and sweet. It's right in the heart of Dupont Circle. But the food isn't impressive--just standard, reliable vegan fare--which surprised me in the heart of DC. It wasn't bad, but I left with no desire to return. That shocked me as the food in DC has been mostly exceptional...

Read moreNo longer has the bottom botanical garden bar area it’s called Protest Pizza now, top is more casual and does require reservations due to size, it’s very cozy but personnel were super kind and got me set up in a timely manner. Food was fabulous and I want to go back for a Halloween cupcake I just didn’t have room! Super recommend!
Original:
We didn’t have reservations but were* able to score seating at the bar counter in their botanical bar dining area (vibes were awesome- with the decor)!
Food phenomenal! My new pal and I shared: [Loaded] Potato Skins, Chick’n’Caesar Salad, and Chesapeake Fritters. All yummy! One of the best salads I’ve had!
For my sXe besties - there were Zero Proof beverages. We ordered the Queen of the Meadow and Gardenia! Asked them to not be too sweet and they were tasty and refreshing.
Would totally come back! Location is also very date worthy!
