Lack of flavor - Edit
We went there on our wedding anniversary day and my hubby wanted a special dinner on a special day but we were disappointed. The vegan food missed all spices. We had a variety of starters. The split pea puree was the best. The green bean salad was tasteless, the mushrooms were oily and I'm still looking for the taste of the pesto. The main dishes (risotto and greek pasta) were also boring and that is sad, because it so easy to bring some flavor into food.

Creative menu, great service - Edit
The George’s Yard menu specifically mentions when dishes are vegetarian or vegan, which is so helpful! They had two creative salad options when I visited: one had goji berries, avocado, and quinoa, and the other had pumpkin, garlic, lemon, and tahini. They also had a vegetarian (not vegan) moussaka, probably worth trying in Greece if you eat dairy etc. My dinner companion had that and loved it. The meal was led by delicious small olives and olive oil that the server said was from his own farm. Yum!

Until next time... - Edit
I went to George's yard for a vegan night out.
Read moreThis taverna is located in Matala, close to the center/square. The owner is kind and a cozy atmosphere I'll recommend this place.
Grateful that this taverna serves vegan options and has knowledge about our lifestyle.
We ordered a chickpea salad.
I look forward to coming back to George's Yard next summer, hopefully, to find more delicious plates of vegan food.

Delicious food and friendly staff! - Edit
There are many vegan options (eggplant salad in sesame sauce, fava, garlic mashed potatoes, risotto, fried potatoes, artichokes in lemon sauce, superfood salad, etc.), not all of them are explicitly declared as vegan but if you’re not sure just ask - the staff is really nice and helpful!😄We has a good time there.

Gourmet Greek food with several 100% vegan dishes - Edit
As Greek I really appreciated to find a taverna in Matala that uses the word vegan in its menu. George's Yard offers classic Greek dishes but with a nice twist and you can really tell the difference in comparison with other tavernas. The food is super delicious and healthy and as a vegan I had many choices. You can even find a vegan dessert made with hazelnut crème. The owners are aware of Veganism and can help you out if you need more information about a dish. For me it's the best taverna in Matala.
