Good Pizza - Edit
I had dinner at Gioia for the first time today. We ordered an appetizer (cauliflower), a pizza (funghi with vegan cheese) and vegan pasta. The pasta and cauliflower were okay. The pizza was quite good. The staff were very friendly.

It is a nice option to have a dinner with omnivores. Otherwise, nothing interesting for vegans (hummus, falafel, cheseless pizza). Additionally, the staff is very unpleasant.

I tried again and again, different options. All of the options I tasted where okay but really strange mix of spices. Also it's little food for way to much coast. It's just sad that they have this good position and sell such crab.

Mediterranean Cuisine for Vegans 🌱 - Edit
I can highly recommend this place. It can get quite busy, especially from Thursday on, so I recommend booking a table in advance but once you get there, the staff is welcoming and lovely, the vegan options are amazing (I love the vegan funghi pizza) and the value for money is also very good and i would say below Frankfurt’s average. I’m definitely a regular there and they have never disappointed :)

... which is not a surprise, if you consider the location, i.e. directly adjacent to Frankfurt's bar district. Especially on weekend evenings you can witness this, if you opt to sit outside on the terrace next to the busy street. But also on the inside it can be loud, which might be too much for people who tend to suffer from sensory overload - and sometimes it's too much for the waiting staff, too.
Read moreThe kitchen team on the other hand does a decent job. You got pizzas that can be veganized, two sorts of vegan pasta (which are both fairly spicy, mind you, so not really an option for kids as another reviewer suggested) and some mediterranean foods like falafel, grilled eggplant and a vegetarian platter. On my first visit I had the grilled eggplant on tahini sauce and I found it a bit too oily, so it was hard to finish it. It seems like others felt the same way as on my last visit I couldn't spot it on the menu anymore. This time I had the Spaghetti Freude ("Freude" being the German word for "Gioia" = "Joy") with fresh veggies, chickpeas, parsley, chili peppers and tomato sauce. The dish was surprisingly colourful and it was already a joy to just look at it. It was also very flavourful and satiating, so that's a definite recommendation from me.
I haven't had the pizza yet, but will surely give it a try on my next visit. I will, however, avoid going there again on a weekend evening.

Their menu items were denoted by things that are vegetarian, or can be made vegan. I've had the funghi pizza with vegan cheese which was absolutely delicious! The bread wasn't soggy (I've had this before on vegan pizzas) and I'd definitely get it again. I've also had the Vegetarian platte, which I can't remember if it was full vegan, but had enough vegan items on it to fill me up.

I found Gioia on Happy Cow and initially thought let‘s see as the place is located in quite a touristy area but I was very positively surprised. Super yummy food and very friendly staff. Ideal also for families as they have pizza and pasta but also vegan food e.g. vegan mediterranean plate with falafel, hummus, couscous etc.

This place offers several vegan pasta dishes, one vegan pizza (any many than can be veganized using vegan cheese) as well as Mediterranean foods like falafel, hummus and couscous. However their outdoor seating is close to a very busy road.

Wenn Ihr Lust auf leckeres mediterranes Essen wie Falafel, hausgemachte Pasta oder Holzofenpizza habt, seid Ihr im GIOIA genau richtig! Dort gibt es viele vegane Optionen und sogar veganen Käse auf der Pizza. Die vielen bunten Farben der Vegetarischen Platte haben uns besonders beeindruckt. Die Atmosphäre dort ist sehr entspannt und eignet sich super, um gemeinsam mit Freunden oder Kollegen gemütlich Mittagessen zu gehen.

Only had the pizza at Gioia's so far, but it was always an excellent choice. They have several clearly marked vegan options, which are in the same price range as the other items on the menu. The service was very friendly, while the restaurant feels cozy in winter but also has the option to sit outside in summer.

Their vegan items are clearly marked with a little leaf icon. They have english and german menus. I had the hummus and falafel (SO GOOD) and and then a spicy pasta dish. They also have vegan cheese you can use on the pizzas. The staff spoke english!

Hatte nur einen Humusdip mit Brot weil es so warm war, aber der war sehr lecker. Man kann auch Pilze oder Kichererbsen dazu bestellen, und es gibt Brot. Bedienungen waren freundlich und draussen sitzt es sich nett.
