Great food and good value - Edit
We ate here twice during our stay in Zurich. I like the self service area. Great choice of food, most dishes are vegan. Really good value for money and tasty food.

Great taste and flavourful! - Edit
The food is so awesome! And there are clear labels to indicate which food is vegan, and the vegan choices are aplenty! On a side note, I think the food is on the pricier side than the one at Tibits. But overall, I enjoyed relishing the vegan meal and even went twice in a day.

Zufällig reingestolpert und total begeistert. Noch nie habe ich ein meterlanges Buffet mit leckersten veganen und vegetarischen Speisen gesehen. Außerdem total nettes Publikum.

Great history, worth a visit - Edit
We wanted to say we'd visited the oldest veg restaurant in the world.... So we did. Great food buffet, 80% vegan. Pricey (but it is in Zurich) and the service is a tiny bit lack lustre. Overall, would def go again 👍🏻

Great but - Edit
HILTL has very large selection of food and while most of the food seems to be targeted to meat eaters instead of to vegetarians, simple amount of options is so large once can always find something to nice to eat. I do wish half of the fried options would be changed to something more healthy and that they would make the price more reasonable thou or at least bring back all you can eat option price gap they used to have before.
Read moreIt was expensive but at least you wouldnt need to take your food to scale like in some school cafeteria.
Also desert options are bit dull but since usually so full from main, this does not bother me personally.
Pros: selection
Cons: price, no price gap anymore it seems

So many excellent choices! - Edit
Loved the food and service here. Visiting from the US and I really wanted some vegan versions of some traditional foods. Hiltl had the perfect menu with tons of choices and an extensive buffet. Our waiter was fun and friendly, too. A great experience!

SO GOOD OMG - Edit
Loved this place! Ate here on my way out of Switzerland and it was so good! I did the self service buffet. So many vegan options, and lots of variety in general. I got a little bit of everything and it was all really good. They have to-go boxes available for the buffet as well and outdoor seating. Loved it! Highly recommend😋🌱💛

Delicious but too expensive - Edit
The food was great. It has authentically German foods without the meat - a rarity for German cuisine. My only complaint was that it was the most expensive meal I had during my Swiss vacation. I had meals at other places in Switzerland that were as good for less cost. On the other hand, it was the best menu I found in Switzerland.

Paradise - Edit
Just for this cool fact of history of the vegetarian movement it’s already worth checking out. But the food is what makes it incredible! So much choice it’s actually impossible to try everything. They have a self-service and a served section. The served one is slightly more expensive but worth it in my opinion because you weigh the food yourself and get a bill, so it is easy to get multiple portions (and go back for dessert!)

Not exactly what I was hoping for… - Edit
Probably my own fault for not doing enough research but I didn’t realize you had to weigh your plate each time. Wow very expensive. My husband and I went, I got an alcoholic drink, he got a water, we each got one plate and spent 80.00 and were still a bit hungry… good food (there were two really great things), very Indian heavy especially for vegan items. It was very nice everything was labeled clearly. I know Zürich/Switzerland is pricey but I wanted a bit more out of this experience. Also- we noticed that ALOT of dishes were getting cleaned out by staff and not replaced well before closing time so if you want the most variety a really early dinner or late lunch is probably best. We went around 8pm and found about 1/3 or more were taken away.

Riesige vegane Auswahl - Edit

Buffet for outdoor seating - Edit
If you want to sit outside then you have to use the self service buffet. If you sit inside there is a set menu to order from.
Read moreI chose to try the buffet and sit outside. The host told me I could take a plate, weigh it, pay for it, and then outside was free seating.
I went in and got a plate. There are fried foods, cold foods, and hot foods available as well as dessert, fruits, and bread.
They all have labels and they had an easy to find vegan symbol. The ingredients are also listed in English so it was really easy to find the vegan things.
I wanted a bit of everything that was vegan so I took small scoops of everything from salad to spring rolls to ratatouille. It was expensive, but that is on par for Zurich. For me to fill my plate and have a drink was €43.
Once you weigh your food and pay they give you a fork, knife and napkin and then you can head outside to sit down.
The food was delicious and I was glad I got a little of everything because there were so many different flavors of things to try. I had a good mix and I enjoyed it all a lot.
I would recommend this restaurant for vegans. They have several locations around Zurich and they are worth going to because each one is a little different.
Pros: Lots of vegan options , Easily marked vegan items
Cons: Expensive

So many options! - Edit
Most of the options are vegan. I suggest walking around and looking at everything BEFORE you start loading your plate….. I didn’t realize how much food I was getting until it was too late and I ended up paying WAY too much. Don’t make the same mistake!! Food was good. Staff very friendly and were very happy that I was trying to speak German😄

Good buffet, quite pricey and modern - Edit
Loved this buffet, wonderful plate of home cooked food. Priced by weight, and mine was 43 franc which is a lot. For the oldest veg restaurant it felt very very modern inside; perched bar stool style seating, a lot like a hotel lobby

Buen ambiente - Edit

The best! - Edit
I usually go to the buffet instead of ordering from the menu. They have a huge amount of fenomenal vegan options at the buffet, you'll love it! The "Hiltl Tatar" is for sure one of the best things I've ever eaten, you should try it. Even my dad who is very sceptical of the concept of veganism and in general doesn't like to eat most vegetables loves the food at Hiltl. 100% my favorite vegetarian restaurant.

Incredible - Edit
I loved this place so much! We sat upstairs and ordered a la carte although the buffet on the first floor looked amazing too. The majority of the menu is either vegan or can be made vegan with substitutions. It seemed like for some items, like the mille-feuille dessert, they made two versions and have vegetarian and vegan ones ready to go. We ordered one item of the special seasonal menu, the beetroot steak with nut crumble, which came with mashed potatoes and cabbage. Also tried the Züri Geschnetzeltes which was Swiss comfort food elevated into high vegan cuisine.
