It was an nice experience. The restaurant was a typical japanese house. the owner were very nice but didn't speak a word of english.

Best dango I've eaten so far - Edit
The dango are really soft and squishy. The toppings are very tasty and creative and very natural tasting (not too sweet).

The warabi are nice aswell.
It is a very good Café to stop by when visiting the shrine.
The set lets you try a variety of flavors.

I enjoyed my lunch here. I ordered the vegan lunch set for 2100 yen. It's a great choice in the area, cause the other ones that I found were pricier. The only downside for me is that you can't pay by card.

Very old Japanese temple & vegan! - Edit
Their lunch (till 4:00ish open ) consists of ¥2100, ¥3000, ¥ 4000 sets are all Japanese-style Shojin VEGAN if you want a lunch set of more than ¥3000 one, please call ahead (in Japanese only, please) Their ¥1000 meal uses some fish so avoid if you are a vegan. I loved the atmosphere and the food was really good! It’s in the famous old Kyoto Koudaiji, Yasaka 5-stories-Pagoda and Koudaiji temple.
