No go

I don't understand why this is listed on happycow.

There is no food marked as vegetarian or vegan. After some try and error I was somewhat sure that I did order the only two dishes available without animals. The water did know at least where there is fish sauce hidden. Still, when I got the food, as an afterthought I got notified that the one dip I got served is fish sauce...

The food was bland and tasted like some one just did not put in some ingredients which usually are used. No sign of of people who know how to cook without cutting animals into it.

Very good though limited vegan options

The guy who served us knew what vegan meant and went through the menu pointing out what is available. Their tofu is fried with eggs for some reason but the noodle dish and green curry can be made with plain tofu. Beware the curry is super spicy hot and even the noodles had some evil yellow chillis in! Though I managed to safely extract them from the bowl. We had nicely done sweet potatoes with a vegan dip rather than the usual one. They do Club Mate so my addicted friend was happy. Shame there aren’t more options because other than the over hot curry the food was very good.
I guess the trick ad always with a place like this is to make sure your waiter knows what vegan means and then see what s/he recommends.

No go

Pho chay is not vegan (they fry tofu in eggs), but can be made vegan.
The broth in the pho chay was good, but the tofu and shiitake were one of the worst i had in my life. Mushrooms and tofu in any instant noodles are much better than in this Michelin guide restaurant.
Maybe egg will give tofu better taste, but I dont believe it.

Tasty, different, healthy

Stuff is absolutely amazing, well informed, know how to make good recomendation. Food came out quickly, everything is fresh prepared. It is very tasty and well seasoned. Not many asian restaurants in this city have food of this quality.

Tasty but Expensive

We stopped by here for lunch we’re pleased with the quality of food on offer. The main dishes are labelled vegan and the staff we able to point out which starter would be appropriate too.
We had an array of small dishes, such as the summer rolls and the fried tofu, which were more than adequate, but while the Mi Xao Chay main was excellent, the portion size left a bit to be desired. Also, the green curry had great flavour, but was a little thin and again not huge.
The bill came to around 7200 dinar which was a lot for what we had especially as they included a 20% service charge.

Pros: Great flavours, Decent selection

Cons: Small portions, Expensive

Very good options

Green curry was great and veg dumplings alright. Staff is nice and funny. Recommend for a quick, easy, standard Viet meal

Edit: came a year later and had the mushroom salad, sauteed greens and tofu and everything was sooo flavorful!!

🤷

Vegan dumplings was fine, but didn't liked the noodles with tofu.
Portions are smaller, then you expect from this price :(

Nice Pho

Istok is not a bad choice for a dinner with omnis in Belgrade. Vegan options are not many and are not marked , but the staff speak good English are kind and knowledgeable about veganism. Also the spices are subtle and interesting, never overwhelming. The dessert - tapioca and coconut pudding - is delicious.

Pros: Delish coconut & tapioca dessert, Staff knowleadgeable about veganism

Cons: Not many vegan options, Vegan options not marked

Great Tofu Shitake Pho

They understood what vegan meant and were able to share that the sauces were vegan and cater to our needs. Food was delicious, though the salad was way smaller than i expected. Also, mango salad is more like pickled green mango salad, which was okay but I don’t know why I imagines sweet mango. Nice place.

Pros: Delicious

Cons: Price for portion size

Oh no, sorry to hear that. This was nearly 2 years ago, so maybe the restaurant changed cooks or recipes. I hope they just had a bad day. May your next meals be so giving.
