Love the soft serve ice cream - Edit
It thrills me that the National Trust has Joey's in 4 locations providing vegan food to the public who have likely not noticed the lack of meat.
Read moreMy favourite is the soft serve ice cream machine, something you don't find in too many places. Sadly the second time I came the machine was being cleaned (happens once a month and takes all day) and I had made a long journey just for this. They offered me a free cone another day and it was worth driving al the way back.
Had a lovely ginger square and a cauliflower pie.
Pros: ice cream!, worth a journey, so many choices

Regular pitstop when I visit Windermere - Edit
Excellently located veggie café right next to Wray castle, and surrounding walks. Plenty to choose from, such as, sandwiches cookies and more. So far everything that I have tried from this café hasn’t disappointed. Cakes and flapjacks are a little soft/crumbly so be wary of that. Joey’s café is a regular that I come to every time I am in the Windermere area.

What a find! - Edit
Yeah! Was so happy to find this lovely cafe when we went to Wray Castle for a hike! I had a delicious falafel salad, my family had plant based cheese sandwiches and we all enjoyed vegan mint chip ice cream! Also bought some oat cookies for later. Really nice atmosphere sitting outside next to the castle. Very friendly staff also. They had one item next to the deli sandwiches that was clearly marked that it had dairy - otherwise everything was plant based!

Delicious food - Edit
Delicious food - I had a 'steak' pastie and dhal followed by some gingerbread and a cup of tea. Really nicely presented in a cute café. Very friendly robin outside mopped up my crumbs. Overhead some negative comments because they couldn't get their fix of meat. You'd think people could cope for one meal and may even be pleasantly surprised. They also have Northern Bloc vegan soft ice cream although that would have been a bit greedy.

Great vegan cafe - Edit
Everything was vegan except for cows milk for tea. It was cafe attached to a public attraction. The cakes were to die for. It was great to hear non vegan raving about the food.

Excellent Vegan Cafe Serving Delicious Food - Edit
Joeys' have opened a cafe which is all but vegan bar serving dairy milk as of December 2021 and we have visited several times the first for a mid morning snack of a jammie dodger and flapjack, which were absolutely delicious with a good cup of coffee.
Read moreRevisited Joey's at lunchtime and ordered a potato, roast garlic & cheese pasty and curried cauliflower with crispy onions and sourdough.. Top notch dishes, the pasty was amazing..I could have eaten another it was so good.
Visited again 17th November 2023 and had golden beetroot and horseradish soup, chocolate caramel slice and carrot cake, everything was scrumptious.
Visited again with friends in February 2024 and had two vegetable stews, loaded nachos, saag aloo pasty and a coronation chickpea sandwich and it was all fantastic, good sized portions and absolutely delicious.
Everything is served in bio degradable packaging with wooden cutlery. This is one place I always visit when in the Lakes it would not be the same if I didn't. Highly recommended.

Ticked all the boxes! - Edit
Stumbled upon this accidentally whilst on a bike ride and it warmed mine and my boyfriend's lil vegan hearts! He had the nachos which were gorgeous ~ guacamole, vegan cheese, chilli, lime goodness. I just had a cheese and tomato roll but it was glorious, the use of cream cheese as well as cheddar meant it wasn't too dry, as I sometimes find cheese rolls to be ~ and it was extra cheesy! We also pigged out on some gorgeous cakes, the caramel, chocolate biscuity slice and the summer fruits flapjack ~ again, both glorious! We also fed the robins and blue/great tits that were quite boldly approaching our table, which just made the whole experience that bit more wholesome!

Amazing! - Edit
Drove specifically to go to this castle. Parking is free if a National Trust member . Staff extremely friendly. Everything food wise is vegan, it’s just they offer cows milk as an option for drinks as well as all the others. I had a hazelnut praline croissant and coffee for breakfast, then a SALTED CARAMEL whippy ice cream after . I can’t explain how good the whippy was. Amazing! They also offer vanilla .

Excellent Cafe - Edit
Delighted that the Wray's Castle had a fully vegan cafe and the food and ice cream did not disappoint. There was an excellent selection of pasties and pizza slices, with a tasty butternut squash pasty. The various cakes were were also very impressive- the biscoff brownie was a standout. The soft ice cream was also delicious, with vanilla and caramel options available. Would thoroughly recommend.

Soft serve ice cream! - Edit
Went on a Monday lunchtime after a dander around Wray castle. Had a carrot “salmon” & sheese bagel; partner had a chickpea & smoked almond wrap - both were tasty. There were a few other choices of sandwiches/wraps, salads, scones, tray bakes & soup. Fab selection of drinks - Karma cola range as well as plenty of different kombucha flavours. The star of the show was the salted caramel soft serve - make sure to save room for dessert!

Relaxed and super friendly. Really nice quality food for all the family. We enjoy no steak pasties and pizza, washed down with gorgeous smoothies and great coffee. Situated on a National Trust site and prices compare with what you'd expect to pay at National Trust cafe. I felt it was great value, homemade with love, feel good food.

Lovely ambient cafe with all vegan food. - Edit
We visited Wray Castle unsure if I'd be able to eat anything here, but when I asked the person behind the counter she informed me I could have anything as it's all vegan (although they do offer dairy milk, so they're not completely vegan). I was spoilt for choice, which I'm not used to, but ended up getting a bag of Acre cheese and onion crisps, an Oreo brownie and a barbeque slaw sandwich. I wasn't keen on the latter as it was just a little too spicy, but my husband really enjoyed the pizza slices he had. The Oreo and crisps though were lovely; we ended up buying some more bags to take home with us. A little expensive though, but the castle is free to walk around. It's a really lovely ambience too.

Not as good as it was - Edit
Last year Joey’s was our go to for plant based food options whilst we were in the Lakes. We visited this May and were disappointed that the standard doesn’t appear to have been maintained. Savoury options are now more limited: on one of the days we visited they had no pasties and they don’t seem to have their lovely focaccia any more, and the sweet options seem to have been reduced and simplified - tray bakes and flapjacks a plenty but less cakes and pastries than before. I hate to say it but we have gone back to Chesters as they didn’t have what we wanted and prices seem to have gone up significantly (£5 for an iced mocha compared to £3.50 at Chesters).
