Vegetarian cafe located in Oslo's oldest squat, Blitz. Renovated Aug 2010. A selection of sandwiches and baguettes, plus one main dish each day. The main dish is not always vegan. The sandwiches start at around 20 NOK, and there's always a vegan alternative. Famous for their waffles (not vegan). During summer and Christmas, Blitz might be closed or only open for a few hours each day. See website for live music & events. Open Mon-Fri 12:00pm-6:00pm.

They Are Too Kewl For School - Edit
Think you're living life to the coolest? Think you know what's punk and what's not? Think your femme underarm hair, no bra, and anti-make-up, far left wing attitude gets you an all-access pass to groovy town? Well, if you want to be knocked down a few cool notches just visit this little enclave. My companion and I were walking along and he was busy listening to my excited words about this cafe. Man, did I ever build it up. Picturing like-minded politically and open-minded folks who would want to chat about the world. We get there encounter a couple of guys at the entrance who were nice enough, but seemed to begrudgingly let us pass them into the inner kingdom. Once inside and a walk up the stairs and into the dining area everyone...and I mean everyone stopped to look at us. And not in a welcoming way.....and as I wasn't wearing my clown costume that day...I didn't know what gives. I really wanted to eat there...the peeps had a total "club members only" attitude..and yet I was starving and totally down to join the crowd. It was then I knew what it was like to be Clint Eastwood in a Western..walking into a new saloon. Felt super unwelcome. I've felt more welcome on dumpster diving expeditions with strangers. Sad for me..I really wanted to try this place out!

What you see is what you get. - Edit
Blitz is unique, not just in Oslo but I'm pretty sure in the world. If you go in there expecting a 'professional' or 'high class' experience, you'll be disappointed but if you read anything about Blitz, you won't. Blitz is a non profit cafe run by volunteers and punx with mismatched crockery, tea for 5kr-, great company, graffiti everywhere and the ability to smoke indoors. The food is simple and cheap with at least one vegan option. If you think you'll turn your nose up at somewhere like this, it's not for you. Punk lefties will love it.

Hubby and I went here, following the other Happy Cow recommendations; perhaps we just went on a bad day but there was no hot dish - it was being created but we were too early ( it was 14:00......) so we each had a salad. Yes, it was cheap but so uninspiring. Yellow rocket leaves, plain boiled pasta, dried out kidney beans, no dressing or offer of same. If you like smoke, black walls and skulls, dirty cutlery and glasses and eating in a space that feels like you are intruding on something illicit, then you will be OK. As a life veggie, in my 50s, I was not comfortable and would not recommend. There are more suitable places for a vegetarian to eat in Oslo. Sorry Blitz, but you disappointed me.

Awesome, cheap, delicious vegan food - Edit
I came here once during my recent trip to Oslo and had a delicious meal of an open sandwich loaded with hummus, mushrooms and cashew nuts. It was only Nkr 10 for a slice and it was so good! Definitely the cheapest place to eat good vegan food in the city. It's based in a squat and community centre which appears to have strong links to anarchism and anti-fascist activism. Unfortunately I just missed the evening dinner that day as I had to be elsewhere, but if I come to Oslo again in the future I'll definitely be making a beeline here for food!

Blitz has got it all - Edit
Any vegetarian/vegan coming to Oslo should check out Blitz. This place has been around since 1982, and serves the cheapest vegan and vegetarian food in all of Oslo. Lots of punks/alternative people go here to hang out or practice with their bands. Blitz offers open faced sandwiches with a huge variety of toppings (omelette, fried tofu on hummus, potato burger, sautéed mushroom with cashews, different cheeses ++), baguettes with tofu or cheese with hummus and greens and so on, and a new main dish every day. The main dish isn't always vegan, and not always spectacular, but always delicious, and it only costs 40 kroner (5 euros)! Everything's made by volunteers, and the selection will vary according to who's working that day. Try the waffles, they're world famous (in Oslo).

Cheapest Vegan Place Around ! - Edit
I just had lunch at this amazing place. They make like slices of bread with all kinds of wonderful stuff like baked potato on a bed of humus or thick omelet with vegetables. Very friendly alternative crowd. The actual building is under construction but they are housed in a makeshift place nxt to it right on the corner of the street. Very liberal and smokers friendly! I had both sandwiches and a large glass of juice for only 30 krones! That's not more than 3 euro's and i'm full for lunch! Def check out this place when you get the chance!
