Fantastic experience - Edit
Had a wonderful dinner here tonight. The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a good experience and were very helpful and attentive. Beautifully creative ways of preparing vegetables I’d never have dreamed of! The one thing that could have been improved is marking the vegan options on the menu. This is done pretty frequently at omni restaurants so would have expected it at a vegetarian one. The wait staff were helpful with pointing us in the right direction but I find these kinds of things easier with visual cues.
Read morePros: Delicious, fresh, flavourful, Good range of options , Awesome staff
Cons: Vegan options not marked on menu

It is clear from the number of times it has been fed back to the restaurant that it is not an oversight but an actually policy that they don’t mark vegan options on their menu.. Why they do this is unclear but I can only imagine they want to downplay the vegan thing to their fine-dining foodie clientele. I have heard they promoted themselves. on vegan forums, which makes this hypocritical. They are no friend to animals as long as they serve the products of animal abuse.

@Tiggy. There are also 42 all vegan establishments on happycow Melbourne! Go to one of those and leave Patsy's alone. Yes, I agree they should not be labelled as vegan or promote themselves as vegan. I think there's room for Patsy's to coexist alongside vegan places. In the end people will vote with their feet. Stop shaming them.

because you are chronic with shaming people and vegetarian establishments on here. I felt the need to call you out. If you can dish it- you gotta take it. You don't contribute to a positive space. Notice how you are the only one doing this? No one wants it or asks for it.

I guess that if I followed somebody around a website like that using the same repetitive and ill-argued rebuttals I would feel a bit embarrassed and sad.

@ Tiggy- but that's what you do! Almost 2/3 of the vegetarian listings on her you have pretty much shamed the people that ate their and enjoyed and called the owners animal abusers and profiting off vegans. I don't feel embarrassed and sad at all. Funny how your the only vegan police member on the Melbourne listings.
Read moretheNumberOfTheBeast
You're wrong, there's at least two of us. People order and profit off of animal abuse are animal abusers, what would you like us to call them, murder junkies? Baby bashers? Anti-Vegan Traitors? Baby-Calf Cadaver Creators? You pick a term you're comfortable with if you wanna be the language police for the vegan police, so we can ignore your request and call you out some more, how about blood-mouth?

No idea why a vegan would eat somewhere that chooses not to code their menu, that is just asking for trouble. Have to wonder how many people would list themselves as plant based on happycow, if the option were available. I assume people who identify as plant based are not really concerned about eating products derived from animals, whether deliberately, by mistake, or from a somewhat dodgy eatery.
Read moreStephF
@BreakfastKlutz this is a pretty disappointing take. As someone who also identifies as vegan, I would hope that you know that the difference between plant-based and vegan is far more than choosing a restaurant that has certain codes/symbols on their menu - codes/symbols that can’t be blindly trusted as they can often be untrue (several times I’ve seen an item marked as vegan, but on reading ingredients it contains honey/bee pollen/some weird dairy ingredient). Rather than trusting those codes, I talk to the people responsible for the food. As someone who lives in the outer suburbs, I often have no choice. We’re all here striving for the same goal - minimising suffering - but if you want to criticise my choices for what I see as frivolous reasons, go ahead. I’m secure in myself as a vegan and have been for many years. Have a good day ❤️

I always prefer information to be written, this is due to a long history (like many other vegans), of customer service contact, and receiving incorrect information, from apathetic, mistaken, and/or ignorant staff. It is far better for the business itself to clearly state what is, and what is not, even though they are not always correct. It is not wise to ask serving staff for these details, unless you want them to tell you what you want to hear. Through no fault of their own, they do not necessarily have the correct details. Coding is the bare minimum that should be expected, and the motivation of any business that actively chooses to neglect to do that, should be questioned.
Read moreI live in Frankston... yet another vegan wasteland in Victoria.
I do agree that codes cannot always be trusted, just like people, and businesses on social media, especially these days with the added confusion of plant based.
The difference (to me) between vegan and plant based, is that veganism is about ethics, it is about the animals/equality. Plant based is a deliberately nonsensical, and misleading marketing term, that is not only deliberately open to interpretation of what is and is not included, it also completely ignores animal testing (ie: Impossible Foods), and then plant based products are still called vegan by many businesses and consumers. Plant based will effectively remove ethics from veganism, allowing animal testing to continue, and also for animals to be used as petri dishes for factory meat. Due to the marketing and flawed human psychology, people will say this is for the greater good, and isn't it better for a few to suffer, rather than many? A valid point... as long as you do not see animals as equals, as individuals born with the same ethical rights as ourselves, our friends, and our families.

Your comments will be more valuable if you post sober. Enjoy patting people on the back if it makes you feel better, even though that attitude is why plant based is so easily able to erode veganism.

Staff were very helpful and switched out a dish for me in the banquet. They will help identify which dishes are vegan v vegetarian. Most drinks on the menu are vegan. They have a clear focus on fresh veg.

Phenomenal - Edit
I love this place! The vibe is spot on. The food is amazing. I had the potato starter and then squash flowers and both were out of this world. The leek main dish felt like it was missing a little something but overall still great. Then the almond custard for dessert was so so good.

Percet on every level - Edit
I've always loved Patsy's, but the food is just next level these days. If you haven't been for a while, or you've never been, now is the time! So many great vegan options - who knew that it was possible to literally dream of cabbage for days, and the stuffed pepper is just beyond belief. And to top it off, a vegan bombe alaska with a toasted aquafaba meringue. And did I mention the mezcal negroni? This is creative food and alcohol executed perfectly, backed up by the most authentically warm and generous service imaginable, in a stunning building. It doesn't get better than this, and I'm already thinking about the next visit.

Vegetables made delicious - Edit
Came here last night for an anniversary dinner, and was really blown away with how good the food was. I can't always appreciate vegetables, but they were so well cooked.
Read moreWe started with the focaccia with garlic confit, and although we couldn't see or taste the garlic, the olive oil it came with was very good, slightly sweet and fresh.
Next we had the fried green tomatoes, which I've never seen on a menu or tried, and they were nicely fried with a crust and salmoriglio sauce (herb and lemon sauce) which was delicious.
The potato gratin was the star, and we ordered another serve of it as we loved it so much. It was perfectly crispy and served with a delicious thyme, tarragon and citrus sauce.
The Roman beans in garlic and balsamic vinegar was equally delicious. There was a mix of beans, and sugar snap peas, which were beautifully crunchy and fresh. The sauce was a delicious creamy sauce with what seemed like a balsamic vinegar reduction (slightly sweet, and thick).
We got the roasted tomato and pine nut filled zucchini with pangratatto, greens and garlic, which was QUITE expensive at $32 for one zucchini. It was listed as a main, but the serving size was on par with the sides and entrees that we ordered. It had a nice tomato flavour, but nothing very exciting, the spinach it came on was quite salty.
For dessert we got the chocolate and hazelnut cannoli, the chocolate was nice but quite rich, the hazelnut cream was grainy and not very flavourful. The cannoli shell was very nice and crispy.
Patsy's has a really nice vibe, soft lighting, and a nice little courtyard that would be lovely to sit out in on a warm evening.
The staff are very friendly and attentive.

Great flavours and Great service but more vegan options would be great - Edit
22/1/2023 I’ve been here quite a few times and I even had my work farewell lunch here last year which was great. Tonight we started with the zucchini flowers which were amazing and we had 2 flowers each. We had the panzanella of tomatoes and fennel and peppers which I really enjoyed. The main was a bit more soupy but I really liked the flavour and we shared the roasted potatoes which I enjoyed. Their sweets menu has changed and I had the cannoli which was light and tasty. I really wanted the crème brûlée but that wasn’t vegan. I think when you can can make so many items vegan, it’s a shame all their desserts at least aren’t vegan. But still a lovely place to eat and meet friends which feels a bit special
Read moreThe dishes are 50% vegan and 50% vegetarian. I really liked the look of the restaurant. Nicely spread out and visually appealing. It was nice not to have to consult barnivore during the meal knowing all the wines were vegan. We were able to taste the wine as well before committing which was lovely. My friend and I shared 1 dish each from each of the menu options starting with the bread. I really liked the flavour of the bread. It had such a nice flavour for something relatively simple. Then we shared the chickpea and potato dumplings. We told them we were sharing and they cut it in half which was kind. I liked the flavour of the dumplings. Then we had the polenta and eggplant. This was my dish of the night. I really enjoyed the sauce and the walnuts too. We also had the shared of the kipfer potatoes. They were in a smoked oil and the flavour was smoked and the potatoes had a great consistency. We then shared the chocolate sorbet. The coffee flavouring really made this dish something special. Lovely service, and the right timing and just a lovely ambiance.
I also had a gin martini which was strong and served in a lovely glass.
It isn’t a cheap meal but it was money well spent. I really liked it and enjoyed the experience

Overpriced and somewhat unsatisfying - Edit
Disclaimer: I haven't tried the wines, only the food.
Read moreCame here for dinner one night after reading good reviews and left somewhat bemused. The service was adequate but not particularly helpful or friendly, and the menu was mostly cheesy concoctions with a few vegan options. Of these, my partner had the barley type dish and I had the eggplant polenta. The former was... not great and the latter had interesting flavours but the polenta was a bit gluey in texture. Overall an unsatisfying experience that we won't be repeating, which is a shame.
Pros: A few interesting vegan options
Cons: Expensive, Some vegan dishes didn't taste great, Not actually that many vegan dishes

Exceptional - Edit
For a special occasion, or just because, Patsy's is the perfect place to enjoy some good wines, company and food.
Read moreWe enjoyed an early dinner on a Saturday night and were pleased to find parking out the front. We'd not made a booking but were told they would need the table in about two hours.
We had the almond crumbed olives with pickles, and the polenta with a side of kipler potatoes. My partner also had the other items photographed, the empanada and rhubarb/custard dessert which are not vegan. Everything was exceptional, including the presentation.
The vibe is relaxed but stylish, with ambient music playing and a tastefully decorated space in a beautiful old building.
Service was attentive, although I did have to defend them trying to take my drink a few times as I savoured my last sips. The menu is only half vegan, which I found disappointing.
Overall, a great addition to the vegetarian dining scene, refocussing on the joy of eating out with a good drink selection.
