Authentic Tex-Mex burritos are a rare thing in Japan, and it’s even rarer to find a good one. Luckily, Qué Pasa in Kyoto is one of those rare birds.
This is a small shop, located about 10 minutes from Jingū-Marutamachi station. They serve animal flesh, sadly, but they understand veganism and will happily whip up a vegan burrito on request.
The food took a little longer than I’d thought it would, but it was well worth the wait. This is a well-made burrito, with lots of diverse flavors and textures coming together in the best way. The vegan hot sauce provided on the side was really good too.
If you like Mexican food (and who doesn’t??), definitely put Qué Pasa on your must-visit list.

Decent vegan burrito - Edit
Definitely not authentic Mexican food, but a decent texmex option. Reminded me of chipotle. I wish they had vegan cheese an a soy meat option! Good size (regular) burrito. Chips and salsa were okay, wished the salsa was spicy though😒

3.5* good local option. wish they had vegan cheese - Edit
A couple vegan options, but not explicitly listed on the menu. No lard in the beans. Big burritos, better than most Mexican food in Japan! Helpful staff.

Great burrito - Edit
English menu, friendly staff who speaks English. We tried the vegetarian burrito, the salsa sauce is really good. We were happy to discovered the Paxjito there, a Mojito with coriander instead. Good for a change typical Japanese cooking.

I ordered the vegetarian burrito without cheese and sour cream, plus guacamole. Wow, so tasty! The tortilla was nice & soft, with just a slightly crispy outside. The fillings were super fresh & tasty. Would definitely recommend this place!

This place is a lifesaver. The burrito with extra guacamole is delicious, good size and the service is great. Make sure to ask for the vegan one to avoid cheese. The owner will happily help.

Incredible spot! - Edit
Awesome tex-mex in a cosy, friendly space. The lovely owner really knows his food, and speaks fluent English. As vegetarians we loved the bean burritos so much we visited for dinner two nights in a row! Order the king size - you won’t want the burrito to end. Reasonably priced too. Can also recommend the mojitos! Definitely worth a visit if you’re after Californian mexican food, or a change from Japanese cuisine while in Kyoto.

We went there because two other vegan restsurants were closed and they were the ones open after 7pm. Super yummy Burritos. The size King is actually a normalbsuze you would get in Germany I assume. So if youre hungry getting the King size is great.

Super Tasty Burritos! - Edit
Small mexican restaurant offering a vegetarian burrito which can be made vegan, the owner is lovely and he was really easy to talk to which made us feel at home. Freshly prepared ingredients really added to the meal aswell and you can tell alot of attention to detail goes into the food. Would rate a 5 if I could.

I can has burritoz in Kyotoz? - Edit
Yes you can!
Read moreI can't say enough good things about this small family owned burrito place. Besides the food being wonderful, the burrito master is very kind and has experimented making variations of the veggie burrito for me (he's made me both tofu and shitake burritos, neither of them being on menu).
About a month ago they started doing "Taco Tuesdays". This magical day of the week offers ¥300 tacos and discounted sours. Usually there is a nice gathering of burrito-minded people to chat and enjoy the time with.
If you're looking for a delicious cylindrical treat, don't miss these Cali-Kyo burritos, just walking distance from the Imperial Palace (Kyoto-Gosho).
Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Convenience
Cons: Tuesdays only come once a week.

Superb - Edit
Deserves 5 stars, but can't due to Happy Cow's limitations.
Read moreQua Pasa is a neat little Mexican style joint serving up the usual Mexican style foods, with an LA twist. We were greeted by a very friendly and accommodating owner and after a brief chat, sat down in the laid back dining area listening to some beats on the boombox while awaiting his creation.
He was busy in the kitchen, clearly in love with his craft, as these two vegan 'king burritos' were sensational to say the least. I don't think I have tasted better. Washed down with a Dr Pepper this time around, but next time I might go for one of his beers or drinks of choice.
I can't recommend this place enough if you're in Kyoto. Do it!
Pros: Great food, Great owner, Great vibe
