Impeccable Flavors and Vibe - Edit
I was so so surprised how good Spicy Moon was! The general Tsos chicken special was fried to perfect crispy perfection and the flavors in every dish were well balanced yet powerful. The duck pancakes just kept flavors rolling after each bite. I need one in Philly!

The good food was really good - Edit
We got several things to try. Favorites were the Dan Dan noodles and the hen of the woods bao. Both of these were outstanding. The tofu bao was okay. The Szechuan edamame was a miss for me. The edamame was overcooked and dull green, and they were sprinkled with what tasted like mild Mexican chili powder. I was hoping for something more interesting.

Spicy Moon has my heart - Edit
The food here is incredible, especially the dry rub “wings” which are full of crunch, flavor and heat. I’m gluten free and vegan and Spicy Moon has several delicious choices. Fast and friendly service.

What a great find down in Chelsea, fantastic Vegan food, central location, friendly knowledgable staff. Hector was able to assist with sugestions of food to try, we weren't dissapointed. It was cold out in Manhattan but a warm welcome in Spicy Moon. Food was fresh, arrived quickly and super tasty. Chilli glass noodles, Double fried King Mushrooms, brown rice, Scallion Pancake.

We came for a high-speed lunch before a show nearby and the staff were very accommodating. The wonton soup, duck wrap, and spicy cucumber were standouts. They brew their own beer, and the spiced winter ale is delicious!

One of the best Spicy Moon experiences ever! - Edit
ORIGINAL POST: 2025-06-24
Read moreMy partner and I are Spicy Moon fanatics (having been to all Spicy Moon locations more than a couple dozen times collectively). We were excited to try the newer addition located in Chelsea. Conveniently located by various train lines.
It was well-decorated. Felt cozy but not cramped. It was a severely hot summer day so we wish it was slightly more air conditioned. But it was pleasant enough.
We went with our usual go-to’s (and tried a new dish, #3):
1) Dan Dan Noodles with Beyond Beef (level 2 for spiciness): A bit more oily than we’re used to but had excellent flavoring and balance of heat
2) Crabless Rangoon dumpling: One of my fave appetizers. I don’t like super sweet guava purée sauce but the dumplings stand out on their own in my opinion
3) Sizzling Tofu (located under Chef’s Specials): not sure if this was unique to the Chelsea location, but I had not seen this on other Spicy Moon menus. We were excited to try and this may be my all-time favorite dish!! A MUST. A bit pricy ($30) but super delicious!
Will definitely be adding this Spicy Moon location to our go-to vegan spots!
**UPDATED POST: 2025-12-25
Returned to Spicy Moon (Chelsea) for another delightful meal! We were happily surprised to see they were open on Christmas Day. They had their regular menu, no specials for the holidays. Food was just as tasty as always but a bit slower service than usual (perhaps being a bit understaffed for the holidays?).
Ordered our usuals: Dan Dan Noodles (default spicy level 3), Kung Pao (mixed tofu and vegetables), Sizzling Tofu, Greenbeans, and General Tso’s Mushrooms

4.5 Stars - Edit
Really delicious. Came for dinner and ordered the Dan Dan noodles, wontons in chili oil, hen of the woods bao bun, and the general tsos chicken. We were accidentally brought the general tsos mix of chicken, tofu, and vegetables at first, and we liked it more than the chicken. Everything was delicious. My least favorite was the noodles, and we felt the bun could use more flavor, but overall we really enjoyed our meal.

Great Vegan Szechuan Food! - Edit
There’s a decent amount of seating inside and the ambiance is really nice. They also have a small bar and a drink menu, though that’s not really my thing. The food was great! I had the cumin tofu with added vegan beef—it had the perfect level of spice. I went with the lunch special and added a spring roll, which came out crispy and hot. The filling was tasty (mostly veggies, no fake meat), and it came with a creamy mayo-style sauce that was surprisingly good. For dessert, I had a cupcake—delicious, but pretty basic. I kind of regret not getting the mochi! Definitely recommend this place.

Other location better customer service - Edit
Food was as good as other location.
Read moreBut here the customer service was poor. They had a sign outside for bottomless drinks. I asked what it consisted of and I didn't get an answer. I saw the menu and it was for mimosas. I ordered 3 only got 2. Then, the guy came out while I was waiting for the third and he said the bottomless mimosas were only for Sundays. Yet the sign was out on a TUESDAY. they should have taken it down, OR TOLD ME WHEN I ASKED FOR THE BOTTOMLESS DRINKS. Not AFTER. Was charged regular price for the damn drinks.
Pros: Great food
Cons: Poor customer service

1 of my top 2 meals in NYC - Edit
I absolutely loved Spicy Moon! We got crab Rangoons which were my least favourite thing but still nice, but the spicy dumpings, Dan Dan noodles with vegan beef and the general Tsao’s chicken were all unbelievably delicious. The chicken was soooooo crispy and the noodles had the nicest creamy sauce. The vibes were also fantastic, they played pop music and served Kylie rosè…. So I was in heaven!

Dan Dan noodles - Edit
You should order Dan Dan noodles. I ordered Dan Dan, mushroom bao, and a bun. The bun and bao were nothing special. The Dan Dan was the best.
Read moreService was lacking at this branch. I walked in and stood there a few minutes waiting to be seated. After seeing someone but her refuses to come greet me, I walked to her and asked for a seat in which I was told to sit anywhere. Once I ordered, I asked for water and didn’t receive it until after my food arrived and another server asked if I wanted water.
Overall, I would come here for the Dan Dan but maybe visit another branch.

Crowd pleaser - Edit
It’s been awhile since I’ve been to Spicy Moon, and this is my first time at this location. I was sad to see they no longer have turnip cakes, one of my favorite dim sum dishes, and hard to find a good vegan version of. I got the garlicky greens with mock duck and the cumin tofu, both spice level 9 (they start at 1 and go by odd numbers up to 9) I do not have the spice-o-meter of a normal person, but I would give it a ~3/5 on my personal spiciness scale. I thought the garlicky greens were a bit oily and could have had more duck, but they weren’t bad. The cumin tofu was my favorite, and I’ll definitely order it again!
