NOT VEGAN! - Edit
I appreciate any restaurant that accommodates vegans. We can be difficult. Annoying, even. Tandem is highly featured as offering vegan meals. It's on their promotional materials, and even specified on their menus. Bravo for effort.
Read moreUnfortunately, they don't know what vegan means. I visited only because of their vegan reviews. I told the hostess I'm vegan, and she suggested the vegan seitan. I told our server I'm vegan. He brought out samples of their dry pasta, and we separated them by vegan and non-vegan. I was a little worried when he said the "vegan" seitan is cooked on the same grill with the wild boar, pork, and beef. Ok, simple enough, no grilled seitan, but one of the pastas should be fine. His last words after I made my selection were a reassuring, "Vegan gnocchi."
It arrived looking ok. There was obviously a cheese of some sort. No problem. He had assured it would be vegan. Vegan cheese is everywhere lately--Daiya, Tofutti, and others. This cheese seemed too cheesy to be vegan. Eventually, I was able to get a server's attention (Tandem's servers are masters of the skill of ignoring patrons). That's when I learned the dish was filled with dairy.
Too late. I'd eaten enough to make the next day very unpleasant. They comped the entree in acknowledgment of the error. In an effort to prevent a similar incident, I casually let the host know that her staff had made a mistake, and explained how. She was apologetic, but quite defensive, saying I knowingly ate dairy cheese (which I have never done since 1990). I let her know that I would never knowingly eat dairy, and would suffer physical consequences as a result. Then she tried to defend the issue by saying they get a lot of people who claim to be vegan only for moral issues. What?!! That makes it ok to feed them non-vegan items?! Apparently, for Tandem, yes.
In brief, vegans and anyone with food allergies should stay away. Tandem's staff knows the word vegan, but they don't understand what it means. I trust nothing from Tandem, and will never go back.

Nice food, nice people - Edit
The vegan ragù served with either pasta (spaghetti, rigatoni -which I had- or another kind which I can't remember, sorry about that!) is really nice.
Read moreRich tomato sauce, peas, seitan -a little too crumbly for me but still good- and pasta cooked to perfection, that's a yes for me.
Plus, the staff is nice and the dining room is welcoming and nicely decorated "italian-style"

Good vegan pasta - Edit
The people who work there are very funny. We laughed a lot while we were waiting for our pasta. They were also very interesting in vegan lifestyle and asked a lot about it. But in a very friendly way. The pasta was very good we thought about buying a second portion some hours later but then it was so full in there, so we didn’t buy more food.

Best Vegan Ragu - Edit
Vegan Ragu version made out of seitan is amazing. I personally had rigatoni and I suggest the same. Must try.

Lovely food - Edit
Ordered the seitan ragu, along with bread and side salad. It was delicious after a day of walking around although the seitan didn't seem soft enough (hence 4*) - however I rarely eat/ cook seitan so I guess that I'm not the best judge. Service was great, and restaurant had a lovely feel overall, many locals were eating there which suggests it is pretty great food.

Nice, cheap food - Edit
Nice food, vegan option marked which is a spaghetti with seitan ragu. The me was really lovely and the service was good. Cheap food as the pasta cost €6. You can get a small or large bowl of seitan for €4/€5.

Delicious Neapolitan ragù, vegan! - Edit
Tandem is a cosy and hip restaurant, recognizable by a yellow tandem bike hanging on nice the entrance.
Read moreThe have a few vegan options, all clearly marked. The best is of course the vegan ragù made with seitan and veggies, with several choices of pasta or bread.
This is a great opportunity to have true napolitean cuisine, made with a vegan protein.
The bread is also delicious and the sparkling red wine goes very well with the meal too.
Friendly staff!
