They prolly sold you dead animals, and laughed about it, since that's what animal killers do.

Plant based unless stated otherwise

This place is plant based unless stated.
There are some non-vegan options.
I have eaten here a few times and the food can be a tad greasy. But, hey, it is a fish n chip shop!
The new wraps are delicious.

Fish Shack is amazing

Great range of foods. Vegan as default (only one "real" fish, many vegan choices)

Pros: Loved, loved the fish basket, Everything so tasty, crispy

Fun how vegan is the default!

I like how all things are automatically vegan unless you specify otherwise. Tasty vegan versions of classic fish and chip shop foods (and Korean fried chicken!). All was yum if you're after a good hangover style feed 😋

Unfortunately the default being vegan doesn’t cancel out all the death involved.

Awesome food

All vegan with non-vegan options. Great for when you’re looking for vegan fish and chips or burgers.

Pros: All vegan menu, Great food

I hate the way people - self-identifying vegans - have been brainwashed into thinking this place is ‘fully vegan’. The business sells fucking slaughtered animal parts. It doesn’t matter if the default option is plant-based, they’re still sponsoring animal slaughter and abuse. Is that not clear?

People who dine out at anti-vegan businesses and call themselves vegan should get the chance to also end their lives in a deep fryer and enjoy knowing that their bodies are being cooked (prolly in the same oil) as some plant-based alternatives. It would be really comforting to me to know. So much so, I'd prolly leap right out of the oil and pat the vegans also supporting on the back.

It’s unfortunate that Tiggy and whoever the other person is feel self-gratification from the demonization of those that don’t align with their militant ideologies. You’re why veganism has such a bad rep from others in the community. It’s pretty sad

Tiggy

I think it’s the easy option to attribute activist activities to self-gratification.. The purpose of my comment is to lament/highlight the co-opting of veganism by commerce and how clever advertising has been able to placate people who identify as vegan to the extent that they’ll start to believe a business selling flesh is actually vegan. I’m pointing this out so that we might reflect on our choices and decide whether they fit with our values. It does not gratify me at all, I assure you.

theNumberOfTheBeast

Hmm if vegans are the militant ones, simply for suggesting that vegans support vegan business to most successfully boycott animal abuse and support veganism, then why is it that our weapons are mere words and the meat-kooks are the ones carrying knives, guns, hooks, prods, and literal warehouses filled with torture devices and mass killing machines? If you really think we want to babysit this type of bogus behavior for our own enjoyment, then don't do it anymore, take away my joy and make me suffer! Please!

We’re all vegan for the same reasons. Ramming the why down people’s throats isn’t helpful and won’t change hearts and minds. It really does give vegans a bad rep. Think about it

Staple in every trip to Canberra

I go to this place every time I'm in town! My favourite recommendations are the shitake mushroom fries, and the vegan fried chick'n with volcano sauce but whatever you order as vegan you can't go wrong. Only complaint is I wish there was indoor seating so I could book a large table to bring friends, however you can usually find seats if you don't mind the canberra cold

Pros: Default is vegan, Extensive menu, Delicious food

Cons: Takeaway setting can't book a table

This place is technically fully vegan

This place is for sure greasy but it’s pretty decent and taste very similar to fish and chips. It’s a vegan restaurant that offers meat if requested. Kinda like all the regular restaurants out there have vegan options, they have meat options. So although I do understand the rules, I think this is a weird situation and should be allowed to be rated with 5 stars. It’s hubs favorite lunch treat!

Pros: A large menu, Really fast

Cons: Really greasy

Tiggy

Sorry but it is *not* technically fully vegan. If the makes money from the sale of flesh it is fully carnist. Offering vegan options (even if they’re the default) is not the same as being vegan.

BEST VEGAN FISH AND CHIPS!

I have had many vegan fish and chips alternatives but this was by the best! I got ‘Konjac’ vegan fish with chips and tartare sauce ($15.5 for a regular and a good serving) Everything is plant based by default! Lots of other vegan options, wish I was in Canberra longer to try them all!

Pros: Good value , Don’t have to pay extra for vegan substitutes , TASTY!

Nice surprise

I can imagine that the name has thrown many as it has me but my order came as a nice surprise. My last treat to be delivered whilst in isolation was worth it. A good serving and the taste was yummy. I still rang to check if my aioli was vegan (it was), and having the extra salad made it a more well rounded meal. Glad to have indulged.

Awesome little shack!

What a brilliant place. The menu caters for both vegan and non-vegan… but the vegan option is the default. Entire menu of fast food favourites but with little twists. Very impressed.

Pros: Everything is vegan, Friendly staff

Chill faux fish + chips. A good quick bite

Chill little vegan hole in the wall. It's not a gourmet eats and it isn't designed to be - it's there to hit that part of the vegan market where you can get a cheeky loaded fries, burgers and fast food faux fish and chips. An under explored area but well appreviated area. Sometimes cheap naughty eats is what you want.

Nice to be able to go somewhere where animal products are the optional alternative.

Pros: Vegan is the default, Lots of options, Delicious fast food reasonably priced eats

Cons: Name could more closely signal its vegan nature

Great food with many options

I went months walking past this place until I realized it was vegan, not exactly the best name for a predominantly vegan eatery.

Love to see a place where you ask for meat options rather than the opposite for us vegans.
Great food here, they have daily specials on some days for example: $10 seafood bowl on Wednesday and $10 loaded fries on Friday. Not the best burgers personally, I wish they had a veggie patty option as sometimes I feel like the fake meat options aren't the healthiest. My partner loves the burgers though so each to their own, many options to take your pick.

Their take on sea food is pretty crazy amazing, must try!

Pros: Lots of options, Don't have to ask for vegan, Reasonably priced and great service

Cons: The title of the place is misleading

Would give 5 stars if I could!!

Incredible. If you haven’t tried their fried chick’n, you haven’t lived. Their whole fish & chips burgers range is amazing too but the fried chick’n is unreal, and it has 3 or 4 different flavour options!

Pros: Huge variety, High quality food, Cheap and quick ;)

Nothing to write home about

Don’t get me wrong, the burgers and ‘fish’ were nice but not out of this world. The standard and quality of vegan burgers is so high in other venues that this place can’t compare.

Good ish

We were really excited to come here, and maybe the high expectations are what caused our slight disappointment. Both myself and my partner ordered a fisherman’s basket type set up with the fish, prawns, calamari and chips with tartare. We also got a milkshake. The fish and milkshake were pretty good, the milkshake especially, but we were pretty underwhelmed by the rest. It’s possible we just didn’t order the right thing but unfortunately the chips, prawns and calamari didn’t quite hit the spot. We did love the fast service, the tartare, all the options, and I can’t stress this enough the MILKSHAKE.

Pros: Quick service, Milkshake, Tartare

Cons: Prawns, Chips

Absolutely the best vegan fish

They have a completely seperate vegan menu, I'm sure they cook the vegan stuff seperate from the fish. Staff is also nice.
.
The konjac fish is best, and my partner enjoys the vegan Von Schnitzel Burger. I want to try the new items when I visit Canberra again.
.
Right near the city centre very easy to find.
Deserves 5 stars, but it’s not listed as 100% Vegan so happy cow won’t allow a 5 star rating.

Pros: Good vegan meals , Nice sitting area , Plant based

Cons: Needs a heater for the outdoor setting

That's My Shitake - perfection. That is all.

#Salty Chick'n Nuggs - incredible flavour, the freshly squeezed lemon makes such a difference! Perfectly cooked and seasoned.
