Nice Place, Good Food, Pricey Drinks - Edit
I visited this place with my friends after I noticed they had a separate vegan menu. It is a very upscale, trendy sort of place across two floors. Downstairs is kind of cafe style and there is a large grocery at the back with sustainable, local products and a refill station. I noticed that many of these are vegan, some are even labelled.
Read moreUpstairs is a full, swanky bar with dining tables and sofas. There is a regular menu and you need to ask for the separate vegan menu. It is Italian cuisine and includes starters, pasta dishes, several pizzas and a few vegan flavours of 7 Senses gelato.
We tried a pasta dish which I was hesitant about but the portion was decent and the taste was actually excellent. I'm not normally keen on regular pasta but it was cooked just right and the sauce worked with it perfectly. Could have done with perhaps some bread on the side. None of the pizzas had vegan cheese but the one we went for came with a pumpkin puree which worked out great. It was so flavourful that it actually exceeded the taste of often oily or salty vegan cheese.
The downside is the cost - the dishes itself were way over average but we didn't mind that for the unique atmosphere and rare vegan dishes. However, the cost of the drinks is outrageous. The cocktails were all about 350-400 even though they mostly had only one shot of something and it was a local brand rather than an imported one. They also have a range wines as well as local, craft beers, but again they are twice the price of the cost in any other venue. We can't quite work out the justification for such a huge mark-up.
I'd definitely recommend this place as somewhere to take someone that you went to impress, but maybe only once or at least until after you've recovered from the debt the drinks bill will cause you.
NB - they have wheelchair access to get in to the place which is almost unheard of in Chiang Mai.
