We are from Canary Islands (Spain) and, during our trip through Scotland, we found this amazing restaurant thanks to Happy Cow. Very nice staff, very good prices and delicious food. Highly recommended!!

Amazing!

So glad we visited The Wildcat while passing through Fort William. There was a good range of savoury and sweet foods and everything is vegan.

The staff were really friendly and the food was tasty! We tried the lemon cake, the seitan panini the soup and a wrap type thing and enjoyed all of it!.

Pros: All vegan, tasty food, great staff

Cons: No parking

Superb vegan cafe!

We visited here for lunch as a family of four and were so happy that we did! We had the lentil shepherds pie and is was absolutely delicious. We all shared cakes afterwards which were very tasty indeed. The service was very fast, just a few minutes wait for our food, despite the place being absolutely packed (we had to wait a couple of minutes for a table to be free.) I really love that they sell a whole range of ethical vegan goods from food to toiletries too, and offer a service whereby you can bring in your own tin to fill up on pasta, rice, pulses, spices etc. We all left feeling that this was a cafe that was not only vegan, but genuinely cares for the environment as well. We’ll definitely be back!

Pros: Lots of diverse and healthy dishes, Lots of different cakes!, Sells excellent variety of vegan goods

Cons: Could do with being on a larger premises!

I was expecting better

Slow service. I Had to ask for what I ordered. I couldn't sit by a table. Food was very good even though rice was boiled without salt and for too much time ..good for grandpas not for who still have his teeth.
No alcohol at all. I don't recommend this place because I was unsatisfied though, I repeat food was very good (except rise). [edit by staff - see tos]

Pros: very good food

Cons: expensive, no alcohol (could look for certified vegan wine), seats & service

Really delicous!

A wonderful array of flavours available, more than just the standard houmous and falafel that's so common in vegan food. Delicous baked goods, yummy wraps and sandwiches and specials on the board. Definitely recommend and one of the only all vegan establishments in this part of Scotland!

Hi James, thanks again for coming in and supporting us.
Glad you like what we've done. We've had a few comments about the price since we opened. For us, we didn't want to open a vegan cafe that used cheap ingredients that didn't reflect our ethical approach to business. Cheap food costs money through taxes and environmental damage further down the line. Some of our products are more expensive than other places in town, but our margins remain lower. Any extra cost goes into the quality of ingredients and paying our staff more than the minimum wage, which we thing translates into better value. I think you don't drink coffee, but for example, we use ethical direct trade speciality coffee, which is more expensive to us, then cow's milk costs 44p/litre whereas Oatly Barista costs us £1.50/liter, a cost we decided early on not to pass on to customers (I've been to so many coffee shops where I've had to pay an extra 30-60p more for the privilege of having Oatly). We hope to educate people about where our food comes from versus cheaper food outlets and why we can't sell our food for the same as other High Street businesses without reducing the quality to a level we are not prepared to pass on. For me personally, I would rather save up and spend an afternoon somewhere I loved visiting once a week than go to a large chain every day and have a mediocre coffee or food. Thanks for the papers the otters day, catch up soon,

A real treat!

At the Wildcat Café they have very good coffee, a great selection of cakes and also some savoury dishes like soup or baked potato. Their cakes are amazing! I tried their orange and almond cake and one of their brownies – both were soooo great! Very often, vegan cakes are somewhat dry, but not at the Wildcat! The atmosphere there is also very nice and relaxed. If you don’t know it, it is not so obvious that it is an all-vegan café – I like that, it means that omnivores “unvoluntarily” also get to try some delicious vegan food and coffee!

Cosy place and fantastic food

We went there twice, for breakfast and the next day for lunch. The apple and cinnamon porridge was delicious. The salad portions were big and filling. They also have sandwiches and pies. To finish, they have a good selection of cakes and brownies. Also they don’t use any plastic straws, cups or bottles, which is great.

Pros: Delicious lunch and breakfast, Cakes and brownies, Quick and friendly service :)

Friendly little vegan cafe

My boyfriend and I planned to stop in Fort William en route to Skye. Spoiked for choice as Glasgow vegans we were doubtful we would find anwhere to be able to stop and have some lunch in Fort William. To our delight we found this little cafe! We both had the mushroom soup and my partner had a seitan sandwhich which I stole a bite of! The tuneric latte was amazing and I even got a free drink with my reuseable cup I purchased as my own cup cracked on the journey! The staff were all so friendly and we are already looking forward to popping back in on our way home.

Hi, thanks for visiting! Really glad you enjoyed your visit.

We try to keep our main menu fresh and change it regularly (daily in fact), which is why we only have one or two options at a time. Hopefully as a vegan, it's something different from the usual offering, and if you're a regular, the next time you come it'll be something different. Today we have Jackfruit burgers and Enchiladas! Yum.

lovely place

Great place, lovely friendly staff and nice relaxed atmosphere. The cakes were divine and really good coffee. Also, they have a little shop section where you can buy a selection of grocery items, including refills for your Ecover products and they sell a few unpackaged dry goods to weigh out, so bring your reusable baggies. The whole ethos of the place is right up my street combining both veganism and zero waste. Please open a branch in my town.

Pros: vegan throughout , zero waste ethos , friendly staff

Cons: none

Brilliant

Found this lovely place through Happy Cow and it was such a fabulous surprise. I live up in the Highlands and to have somewhere like this up here is such a blessing.
The staff were immediately welcoming and you felt like it was one of those places where nothing was too much trouble which is so nice nowadays.
I had a pot of tea and a piece of the lemon cake to sit in and the cake was yummy. It was very sweet - perfect, just how I like cake! I don't see the point in eating tasteless dust type cake in the hope that you don't feel as guilty. Enjoy the cake - own the guilt.
I also took away a sourdough toasty with 'cheese' and pesto which was also full of flavour and packed with filling. I also took away a brownie (see guilt note above :-)) which was lovely and moist and full of chocolate goodness.
A definite asset to Fort William High Street which has looked a little tired of late.

Pros: Vegan Cake , Great sarnies, A much needed gem

Pleasant surprise :)

We weren't really expecting it to be so easy to eat vegan on our way back from Skye, and were prepared for the usual hummus and crisps in the car. Finding a fully vegan cafe in Fort William was amazing!

My partner and I both opted for the cheesy beans toastie (violife cheese I think), on home made bread with crispy tempeh bacon. Really, really tasty! I also indulged in a hot chocolate (delicious) and we each sampled the cakes on the shop front, which were as decadent as we were hoping for.

Good service, great atmosphere, friendly staff and a cafe everyone should support. Good luck, guys!

Pros: Vegan :), Tasty, Good variety in lunch options

Cons: Portions slightly on the smaller side perhaps?

gorgeous

Visiting fort William, as a new vegan I wasn't expecting much but I stumbled into this little gem. Not only did it take me a second to realise I'd stumbled into a completely vegan cafe but that the food was gorgeous! The lemon cake so yummy I could have eaten the whole thing. With a little shop, great tea choices, lovely quirky setting and very friendly and helpful staff. I fell in love with it. Just disappointed I couldn't take it home with me!

Hi Rebecca, thanks for the kind words, and welcome to the world of veganism!
A lot of people say they didn't know it was vegan straightaway (someone said it was 'casually animal-product free') which is something we were aiming for, to get people in without judging it from the outside, as a result, we've had a lot of Oatly converts and minds prised open!
Hope to see you again next time you're our way.
Stephen
