Meh Food, Patronizing staff

Thin Hei is located near the historic center and has an extensive menu with cut and paste sauce and protein combos.

The sweet and sour tofu skins was good and Siam tofu not much (low quality tofu and bland sauce). Definitely overpriced for the quality.

I actually ordered the chicken but the server insisted I get the tofu instead even after clarifying. When I clarified again after the food was brought out the server kept returning to my table to tell me why she won’t serve the chicken including that it’s bad for health. Yet she showed me each better looking meal she brought out to other guests including a chicken one! Afterwards, she never returned to the table to check if I enjoyed the meal or needed other food, and didn’t say goodbye as I exited.

So flavorful

We ordered the chicken rice and sweet&sour chicken. The brown sauce was so delicious. It's the best sauce I have tasted in a while. Also it's really affordable.

Affordable Chinese vegetarian food.

Great location with a lot of parking. Menu has a huge selection of Asian vegetarian foods and drinks. Restaurant was clean and well maintained. Prices are reasonable. Staff are friendly and helpful, happy to serve you. Enjoyed my short but pleasant visit and meal. Wish I get the chance to return.

Pros: Good prices, Large menu, Easy location

Average

Food was fine but wasn't very flavourful. It was cheap, however.

Delicious!

Enjoyed this food a lot. Simple place, but with friendly people and a dedicated chef. Mock meat is so real you’re almost doubting if you’re not secretly eating meat or fish, but that’s obviously not the case. Food style is Malaysian / Chinese.

Tasty veg Chinese

Very convenient if you're staying at Hotel Ipoh City! This place is a little pricier than its neighbour so it would probably be my second choice, but the food is quite good.

We were hankering for something particular, so we asked about a photo in the menu which didn't have a corresponding item number; ended up being clay pot vegetables with tofu, which was very satisfying. After asking about the flavours of a few chicken dishes hoping one would be sweet, the waitress said she could just get us sweet and sour chicken, which was pretty great and featured pineapple.

The only reason I don't give this place a 5 star rating is because of the competition. If you're dining on a Monday, however, this will be your only option of the two!

Pros: good food, fair portions

Cons: pricier than its neighbour

Thin Hei, Ipoh

This is an enjoyable Chinese eatery in Ipoh new town. Its quite spacious and feels inexpensive to me as someone living in Hong Kong. I had three dishes... monkey head mushrooms, some greem veg and a tofu claypot casserole. All were great. The people running the place are nice.

Those on non dairy diets... Some of the dishes on the menu name butter as an ingredient.

Pros: vegan friendly, nice staff

delicious fish-us!

Just came back from a delicious meal here. Once again, thanks Happy Cow! The Ginger Fish was probably the best vegetarian fish I have ever had. So excellent. If in Ipoh, check them out.

Pros: vegan, Buddhist, tasty

Pros: Good Choice On Menu

Cons: No Spring Rolls

Very cheap set meals

I ate at this place quite a few times during my stay in Ipoh. The first time the friendly owner recommended some dishes which were tasty but seemed a little expensive for what they were. I noticed towards the back of the menu there are various meals with rice e.g. "veggie duck rice" which was very nice and just 4RM with rice and freshly made. I found this very reasonable for a freshly made meal! There were various noodle dishes for 4-6RM some purely veg for those that don't like mock meat.

Pros: Very good set meals, Friendly owner

Cons: Some non-set meal dishes expensive
