Best value hidden gem in the city

This was my go-to restaurant in my three weeks in Guangzhou. Best value vegan food in town. My go-to was their set meal with the tofu and choy claypot rice and soup and mango pudding. I remember one of the noodle dishes wasn't so good but the other one was good. Forgot which one I didn't like. There are two other choices nearby, but one is a low quality buffet and another was the higher priced Jiayuan, so I went with the this restaurant which was very affordable and great quality.

Great vegan spot

Tasty dumpling noodle soup. Open menu in Alipay and can read in English. Owner was nice and when I asked in (bad) Chinese if the dessert had milk or eggs she said no and then brought us 2 for free.

Very adaptable food

This little restaurant has an online menu that allows you to easily customise your food. Some of the translations are a little weird (“sun fruit” is a fake egg), but the food is tasty and the service is very fast.

Best vegan spot for clay pot rice

I might have fallen in love with the food here, that's why I came here three days in a row 😁
煲仔饭 (Baozaifan) is a traditional Cantonese dish and a must-try for people coming to Guangzhou. The Rice and toppings are cooked in a clay pot. The best part are the crunchy and toastes bits of rice at the very bottom.

Here, they specialize in 煲仔饭, but they also have several noodle and rice dishes as well as soups, side dishes and dessert options.
The restaurant is conveniently located in the street leading up to Guangxiao Temple, close to the metro station 西门口.

Pros: Delicious, authentic food, Conveniently located

A hidden gem in the back alleys

Great heat on the claypot dishes, fresh steamed veges, had noodle menus too, a must try bistro managed by a humble lady boss.

Pros: Claypot rice specialty, Had a variety of noodle dishes

Cons: A bit hard to find in the alleys., Could wait long if orders stack up

Amazing clay pot rice!

This restaurant is a hidden gem for vegetarian food lovers, offering delicious clay pot rice bursting with flavour at unbeatable prices. Their side dishes are amazing as well. I’ve already been there 3 times during my short visit to Guangzhou!

Vegan Cantonese pot rice

A nice little shop in downtown Guangzhou that serves veganised Cantonese pot rice, noodles, fried rice and Chinese appetizers. I got the spicy pot rice. Instead of meat they used two different types of tofu. It was decent but not salty or spicy enough for me.

Pros: Local food, Near the subway, Affordable

Cons: Don’t speak English
