Thai Flavor Bomb - Edit
We’ve been following Aroy Thai Gardens on Instagram for months and were excited to work a visit into a road trip to New England. We were blown away by the authentic Thai flavors and unique dishes we haven’t seen at other Thai restaurants. The pork belly and crab Rangoon apps are a must. For entrees, we went with Pad Ped Pa and Tom Yum Kee Mao Ramen. Both were exceptional. We can’t wait to come back.

Worth a trip - Edit
The menu is huge, and it was hard to make a decision! I settled on the Thai curry with vegan “pork”, and it did not disappoint! Our Thai teas and “shrimp” roll were fantastic as well. Service was attentive and friendly. This place is definitely worth a special trip.

Good but some things were spicer than expected - Edit
I can't figure out if this was just a GrubHub issue or a restaurant issue. I tried checking their menu on their website but it never loaded for me. It seems like they don't really have spice charts, or at least not a varied enough one. As "this is spicy" and "this is not spicy" are not exactly a wide metric of descriptions.

I’ve been meaning to go to Aroy for a while and I’m so good I did. Everything was delicious. I can’t wait to go back.
Read more2025 edit: returned and was turned away. ☹️ Arrived on a Saturday evening and we were turned away because we didn’t have a reservation. A bit of a bummer since there were a lot of empty tables and we drove a half an hour to go there. Unsure if we’ll make the trip again specially for this place.

Favorite Restaurant - Edit
I love Aroy Thai's vast and frequently updated menu. Every dish I've tried has been bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. It is my go to restaurant for special occasions. I sometimes eat by myself there and the waiters/staff are all very friendly and welcoming. It's so great to have a fully vegan, authentic Thai restaurant nearby. There are other special dishes from other Asian cultures as well that are just as delicious. A must try for all CT vegans and visitors.

Terrific Thai food! - Edit
I was excited to try this restaurant when visiting family that lives nearby, as I rarely come across all vegan Thai restaurants during my many travels and love Thai food. It didn’t disappoint! All the appetizers and entrees my partner and I got were great. I especially loved the cashew cream cheese filled wontons. My mango curry was only a spice level 1 but seemed too spicy for my preference, so I personally disagree with a prior review saying the food isn’t spicy (I know it’s subjective). My partner’s only complaint was not enough protein/tofu in his pad thai.
Read moreThe restaurant itself was a lovely space. I talked to the owner while I waited for my take out order, and she was very kind. I could tell she is very passionate and really cares about the vegan cause.

Unique Thai spot - Edit
The owner is a sweetheart and I love that this is an all vegan Thai/asian-fusion establishment. Love that they feature so many different vegan protein options like duck, seafood, and pork.
Read moreHowever, it's not my favorite Thai place and I find the flavors a little lacking and not what I was expecting.
Haven't had an entree that's wowed me yet, and I find it odd that so much of it has five spice and too much oil. I love spicy food as well and always ask for spicy level 5, and it's always incredibly mild.
I'm always really impressed with their appetizers, drinks, and desserts. Their dalgona coffee is amazing, maybe a little too strong on the caffeine as it starts giving me anxiety halfway through drinking. But still incredible and highly recommended.
Cute interior, nice location, and very friendly/helpful staff.
Pros: Unique vegan protein options, Huge menu, Friendly staff

Delicious flavorful food - Edit
There are so many options to choose from and everything I have tried has been absolutely delicious. The only thing I would be careful of is the spice level! They will ask you on a scale of 0-5 how much spice you want. Even a 2 is very spicy. The staff is always so nice and I love that they put effort into the presentation of the meals as well

Vegan nostalgia - Edit
I used to eat at the old Thai restaurant at this location years ago, and learning it is now a vegan restaurant enticed me to return now that I am vegan. Great flavors and spice levels, large assorted menu that would please vegans and omnivores alike! I recommend the Thai iced tea and the spicy basil fried rice.

Hands down best vegan thai! - Edit
It's no surprise that Aroy Thai Garden's was voted Best Restuarant for Thai and Vegan / Vegetarian by Connecticut Magazine! Overwhelmed by all of the wonderful choices, our very friendly server recommended everything we ordered.
Read more-Fresh Spring Rolls: So light and refreshing with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce
-Vegan Crab Rangoon: It contained cashew, so I did not eat them, but my husband loved them!
-General Tso with Thai Khao Pad (fried rice with vegetables): The General Tso was crispy, spicy (level 4) and hint of sweetness. I love that extra sauce came on the side to keep the dish crispy! Fried rice was amazing! I have not had fried rice in a looong time because its often made with butter or broth. Incredible!
-Pad Moo Makhua pao: Perfectly cooked and grilled tender eggplant with stir fried vegetables with impossible beef. So delicious and spicy (level 4).
Each dish was elevated, pack with flavor, hearty portions, and spice! A must go to if in Middletown, CT. There is plenty of parking on the street or in the surface lot behind the restaurant. Downtown Middletown is THE destination for vegans in CT with Aroy Thai Gardens , Ion, and vegan friendly options.
Pros: Flavorful, authentic Thai and Asian Fusion, Spicy is actually spicy!, Plenty of Parking

Impeccable! - Edit
Currently, Aroy is my favorite restaurant in CT. A year ago, they changed ownership and converted their entire menu to be 100% vegan! How amazing is that!
Read moreThe owner is the kindest, sweetest human on the face of the earth. The food is incredibly delicious, authentic and comforting.
Because the menu is fully vegan, I feel comfortable knowing that I can choose absolutely anything on the menu, and it’s all safe for me to eat!
Diner’s can choose from an array of vegan protein items. You can choose the more traditional route with tofu/seitan or more adventurous mock proteins like chicken, duck, beef and so on! I have been multiple times and tried a new menu item each time and I am never disappointed. I love the vegan crab rangoons and my personal favorite way to end each visit is with a serving of their coconut cake. It’s a tres leches style cake with fresh coconut— which is not only delicious, but a natural digestive as well! And the customer service is always stellar! Not to mention, it’s on the more affordable side, which is always a plus!
If you’re a vegan that lives in Connecticut, and you haven’t been here yet, what are you even doing?!
All jokes aside, I come here each time with my non-vegan friends and family, and everyone always leaves feeling satisfied and nourished. 10/10 recommend!

a vast banquet of wholesome veggie dishes - Edit
Formerly a conventionally carnivorous Thai restaurant that, like all Thai-American restaurants, served fish sauce in nearly all of its dishes, in March of 2023 its newest owner and vegan chef converted the restaurant to veganism. Its new name, Aroy Thai Garden (note the singular), similar to its former name, Thai Gardens (note the plural), causes needless confusion. In the past, customers have posted their reviews for one under the acct of the other.
Read moreConfused? So have been other customers. Yesterday was my 5th visit here. On my 3rd visit, I witnessed an interesting scene. Two married couples walked in and sat down. Upon the waiter’s arrival he asked them if they knew that this was now a Vegan restaurant. They said they did not know. Without any discussion among themselves, they all got up and walked out. The V word still strikes fear in the hearts of omnivores.
Another puzzle. The entrées on its online menu offer 4 kinds of rice, none brown, yet brown rice is listed online as a side dish and in person as a 5th choice. Brown rice acts as my gold standard for a restaurant’s nutritional merits, a test that Aroy passes, but with confusion.
While mock meats predominate and fried foods abound, the menu is so extensive and varied that much still is offered with an array of wholesome vegetables as main courses. All the dishes of all veggies that I have tried were all well prepared.
It is puzzling to be treated to two all-vegan restaurants both in the middle of Middletown and both on Main Street. Can both survive competition vying for such a specialized clientele? An odd business climate. Odd, too, is that both are closed on the same day.
Vegans such as I who shun fried foods and mock meats formerly were confronted with conflicting choices. Dine up the street at all-vegan ION or at Aroy where a vast banquet of new and exciting dishes of wholesome veggies awaits my sampling. I emphasis, formerly a conflict. In the past year, the nutritional standards at ION have plummeted precipitously. ION’s chickpea cutlet first was adulterated with devitalized wheat gluten, then dropped from the menu. While still on its menu, its mushroom burger has lost any taste of mushroom as it, too, has been adulterated with leathery wheat gluten. And its former whole wheat bun has been downgraded into white flour. Tremendous steps backward. Fortunately, Aroy has saved the day for me in keeping Middletown a vegan destination town.
Pros: an extensive menu of various veggies, the beautiful decor of its spacious interior, the accommodating wait staff

New Year’s Eve Dinner - Edit
We had such a wonderful experience and can’t wait to make a return trip!
Read moreThe food was rich and delicious and the waitstaff were extremely nice.
We didn’t realize it is currently byob until they get their liquor license but there is a store right next door to grab what you need and Aroy’s provides glasses.
It was very fun going to an all vegan establishment with this many options. Especially when they had so many different protein options that were fun to add to your dishes.
We started w crab rangoons, they made me moan ;), and steamed dumplings which were also delicious.
I had the Tom Yum with noodles with ‘shrimp’ at a level three spice. That ended up being just a hint of spice, not what I would consider hot. It was really really good.
My husband got Khao Soi with ’duck’ that he also really enjoyed but his spice level was a three and was very spicy.
Overall, we both agreed that going back it would be hard to even try new dishes because we still want to eat what we already had! It was very fun going to an all vegan establishment with this many options. Especially when they had so many different protein options that were fun to add to your dishes.

i’ve been wanting to come here since the owner first announced the opening on the vegans of ct facebook page and i’m SO glad i finally did! i love that they confirmed we knew the restaurant was fully vegan when we walked in, hopefully it avoids any issues from people who don’t want to eat vegan. we ordered the veggie tempura to start. i love tempura so was very excited for a vegan version. the tempura itself and the dipping sauce were delicious! i ordered the drunken noodles with vegan chicken, and my fiancé ordered the green curry with chicken. both were also amazing! we both got the three spice level, i thought it was perfect, it was a bit too spicy for him. for dessert we got the banana wontons with caramel dipping sauce. INCREDIBLE. i can’t wait to come back. 5 stars from my non vegan fiancé as well!
