Lousy service

Me and my wife went to the Dubai Mall Bateel outlet next to the fountain today morning. . My wife ordered a coffee and a croissant and I joined her in 10 mts. We switched tables to sit next to the water after ordering my Avacado toast breakfast. Niw started the service trip ups :

1 I asked 3 different waiters for the Bread basket - no action for 12-14 minutes . I got served my coffee and again asked for bread - no action for near 10 minutes .
2. I go to the cashier and the manager - Name starting with S - Serena (possibly got this wrong) and complained.
3 Breakfast and bread arrive at the same time!!
4. At time of payment I was guided to the scan . I check and I find a huge bill of AED 346 - I complain . Oh !!exclaimed the waitress.
5. She come back in 5 mts and asks me to recheck . It is correct now at 148 AED! No apology rendered!!!

I have been going to Bateel’s all over Dubai for many years. The service staff at Dubai Mall were the sloppiest I have ever seen .

The rule apparently was ‘no eye contact’ lest we be asked to do anything. This was true all 3 staff members. The Manager lady in green dress was the only professional on the job!!

Pros: Good quality

Cons: Bad service , Serving staff - pompous and rude

Few vegan options left

Unfortunately most of the vegan options mentioned in other reviews are no longer on the menu. Besides some salads, there are no vegan options. You can however, add oat, coconut or almond milk to your drinks. I had the lentil and corn salad and it was okay. The dressing was too acidic for my taste but that seems to be the more common taste/flavor in the country. Wouldn’t go here again, mainly because the food for me and my partner was good, but pretty expensive for what you get (25 euros for a small salad) and obviously the lack of vegan options.
The drinks menu and options were fantastic though!

Expensive but good

Café Bateel is an upscale café. It’s posh in a classical sense, the ambiance is sophisticated, the service is impeccable and the food is of high quality (also presented in an attractive way).
Of cause, needless to say, it’s quite expensive as well.
I ate there on two occasions- I tried the roasted pumpkin soup, the Mediterranean farro, Mediterranean superfood and the king mushroom bolognese. All dishes were freshly prepared and tasted good, but they all looked a bit superior than they tasted, if that makes sense. Except for the pumpkin soup, which looked yummy already but was even yummier.
For some dishes they give you couple of slices of different breads, which are amazing.
Can be crowded at peak hours, they seem to be quite popular.
Good range of clearly marked vegan options.

Excellent vegan options

Found this cafe whilst shopping at Mall of the Emirates and the vegan options were excellent. We were told more are being added soon to the menu. We had one of the soups and the bolognese king oyster pasta and a soy matcha and hot chocolate, all delicious.
