Only one choice and incompetent - Edit
We are as a family and ordered the only vegan option and asked if they can make the pizza without cheese and the bruschetta also vegan. The bartender agreed and we got both with cheese. The guy insisted there is no cheese on it. After asking again in the kitchen he apologized and brought new pizza and bruschetta. I gave 3 stars because he apologized and gave us free drinks.

Only one option, but not bad - Edit
This is one of the few places with vegan options open late in Tromso. I visited Feb 2024 and they now only have one vegan option (chick'n bowl). Not bad but I wouldn't come back again.

Convenient, but not great - Edit
For Egon restaurant in Tromso it's all about location. It has a door in the main shopping street as well as a door connected to the "Thon Hotel Polar". The restaurant has a lot of tables and they're all tucked away in their own cosy corner. The decor is dark with dark wood and candle light.
Read moreWith so many entrances and tables it's hard for the staff to stay in control, so guests first have to "claim" a table (drop relatives, friends, children, bag, jacket or small pets), then walk to the counter to order and pay in advance. Based on the table number, the order will be brought to the table. This sounds reasonable, but results in long lines at the counter. On a Sunday between lunch and dinner there was a long wait to order and an even longer one for the order to arrive.
From the very few vegan options Egon has to offer, I chose the "veganbowl". This may sound like a vegan pokebowl, but in fact it is a bowl of white rice with some vegetables (and avocado) on top. I expected a bowl full of vegetables, so I was a bit disappointed to see so much rice. Despite, the taste was good and the bowl was filling and nutritious.
Pros: convenient location, better some vegan options than none
Cons: expensive, long wait, vegan-bowl has much rice and little vegetables

Cosy vibe - Edit
Very cosy bar/restaurant to chill out in on a winter afternoon. Unfortunately the vegan cheese options were a summer promotion and so our vegan pizza was without cheese.
Read moreIt was very tasty though. Drinks were good and prices were pretty standard for Norway...
Pros: Great atmosphere , Tasty food
Cons: We sat next to the children's play area, No vegan cheese any more

Nice atmosphere and ok food - Edit
The atmosphere in this place is really nice. Small booths with wooden tables and a lot of antique local decorations. I could find 2 vegan dishes on the menu (clearly marked), a rice bowl and noodle bowl. Both were okay, not very special but tasty. The rest of the menu is very extensive, so it's great if you're with non-veg company.

Not so good - Edit
Their menu goes from pasta, pizza over burger to some asia noodles. For me its too much different stuff so maybe thats why the only vegan dish (asia noodle bowl) was really not good.

Clear vegan options, great atmosphere - Edit
This place felt more like a pub than a restaurant, which was perfect for us. Like a Wetherspoons in the UK, but much nicer and better food! Cosy and warm atmosphere, a varied menu, and beer on tap.
Read moreVegan options have their own section, and I saw some veggie options on the menu although they weren't marked as such. They also have an allergens menu for those that need it, so every dish can be checked for ingredients.
I had the Asian noodles which was delicious, but a little bit spicy.
Pros: cosy atmosphere, friendly staff, tasty food

No difficulties eating vegan - Edit
I want to state that i was here a few years ago (2017) and am therefore sure they changed something about the menu in that time, but my experience with this place was very positive. Back then I asked the waitress for vegan options when entering the restaurant, she said it was no problem whatsoever to give me the fajita's with extra avocado instead of the crème it came with and we got a spot in the corner. The staff was friendly. The food was good. Seeing they offer four vegan dishes, i would love to go back and try those too.
