We went there for lunch. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was friendly and peaceful.

The key lime pie was okay.

Instant favorite - Edit
Words do not suffice to describe how amazing this restaurant is! The people are so kind, the environment is so peaceful, and the food is SO delicious and healthy. Upon first glance, it looks like it would be super healthy and thus bland. But it is super healthy and surprisingly so flavorful! Even the salad is simple but so tasty. I've been vegan for 8 years, and I've tried hundreds of vegan restaurants across different states/countries. This is instantly in my top 5 for nutritious, comforting food.

Health food GEM!!! Best vegan food around - Edit
This is not just the best vegan food in the upper east side, it’s the best vegan food in New York City. As a “health food vegan,” all I want is a restaurant serving high-quality ingredients that are well-seasoned without being fried in oil or loaded with salt. Sounds simple, but this is next to impossible to find even at supposedly healthy restaurants. They have a cool origin story with a Tibetan founder who became a monk and cooked macrobiotic food at a Buddhist monastery in India before working at a 5-star European hotel. The first and only other location of Himalaya Vegan is in Sacramento, California, and we were over the moon when they announced the opening of their second restaurant in New York. We visited on their opening day, and the food lived up to our high expectations. The menu is simple, offering a rotating selection of legumes, warm vegetables, whole grains, soup, and salad that are truly made with love. You get a medium or large plate that comes with a portion of each item for $21.75 or $23.75 (with a cheaper option available for lunch). They also have homemade smoothies, juices, and pie, as well as a fridge full of different kombuchas. We loved every bite, especially the split pea curry and roasted kabocha squash. We’ve been back half a dozen times already and they only just opened in February. You don’t have to be vegan to love their food. It’s delicious and perfect for anyone who wants to have a great meal and feel satisfied and amazing afterward.

The best healthy vegan food in NYC - Edit
Incredibly yummy and healthy food in a calming and serene setting. The food was fresh, seasoned to perfection, and I left feeling both full and (somehow) lighter. So grateful there is such a healthy and organic spot run by Buddhists in the Upper East Side!

Healthy, filling real food - Edit
Delicious meal. For 25$ you can get the set menu. It came with a soup, two green salads, brown rice, beans, and stewed vegetables. It was a very large portion. Probably enough for two if you also get a dessert! Includes hot green tea.

A must for a meal - Edit
This place is great. Clean and bright setting and friendly service. Not to mention the tasty food. I got the full meal plate to go and its deliciousness survived the cross town walk from York Ave to West End Ave.

Great Healthy Lunch - Edit
So excited for this new vegan spot on the UES. There is only one meal on the menu per day, consisting of a soup and several other small dishes. Left feeling very full and energized for the day after a perfect healthy meal. The UES has such a lack of vegan restaurants, I’m thrilled to see a new one open and will definitely be back soon!

Amazing, Flavorful, and Healthy - Edit
The food here is absolutely delicious. Perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Fresh ingredients. It is serene. You don't even have to stress over what to order or how much. There is a 6 item plate the comes in moderate or regular size.
Read moreEvery item is fantastic. A bean/lentil item, collard green with sauce, salad with sauce, root vegetables steamed, brown rice. The flavor is not heavy like some Indian or Thai flavors, not salty at all. Perfectly seasoned. I’m a health-food vegan and really it’s hard to find healthy vegan restaurants, and the ones that are healthy usually lack great flavors. This one is so crazy flavorful, healthy, organic, and absolutely perfect!

Old school excellence - Edit
This is a small sit-down, relaxed place that serves healthy, vegan, organic, gluten-free food. In addition to smoothies and pies, they serve one dish with 5 items: soup, greens, rice, and beans--you either get the large portion, the medium portion, or get the individual items a la carte. It is simple, but ultra-healthy and very filling--a large portion is enough for two meals.
