Seriously delicious - Edit
Okay, how is this place so delicious?! I come here almost monthly and I have never had anything that I didn’t like. The Crunchwrap was life changing. I think about the gyro weekly. Animal fries? Yes please! And now, desserts too! I have been getting a cookie to go and enjoying it as a nighttime snack and it’s lovely. Just go eat here, honestly.

Good food, lovely place - Edit
We got take out, I ordered a chicken sandwich with some fries. The fries were well seasoned and crispy, the burger was thicker than I expected, which was nice. The pickles could stand to be thicker cut, adding way more of them doesnt make up for that nice crunch that a thicker pickle has. We didn't spend too much time in the actual restaurant but it was clean, open, and the employees were all nice. Definitely worth going back to!

I wanted to love it, but didn't - Edit
We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with tomato basil soup and the dirty secret, a burger made to imitate the Big Mac. The soup tasted like jarred pasta sauce, with a similar consistency. The chicken sandwich had an odd sweetness to it, though didn't list any sweet ingredients. The dirty secret was pretty tasteless, lacking enough special sauce and overall was pretty bland. The burger patties themselves were so moist and cooked perfectly however. I was beyond disappointed because we were so excited to try this place but it simply fell short.

The Dirty Secret - Edit
SO very good! I ordered "The Dirty Secret" - a plant-based take on the Big Mac, and while I've had MANY vegan burgers in my day, this was BY FAR one of the best I've ever tasted!

You can definitely fill up here on all the yummies. Normally I'm not excited about a burger but I absolutely LOVE the "dirty secret" burger. Like a big Mac. I get it with "bacon." I enjoy the cauliflower wings too.

The food here is amazing! I had the crunch wrap and my aunt had the “chicken” sandwich, both were absolutely amazing! Even my non vegan aunt loved her “chicken” sandwich! 10/10 would recommend!

Philly cheesesteak, so good. - Edit
Another meal-search saved by the Happy Cow app. A nice considering menu with all the basics of comfort western world food.
Read moreI got the Philly Cheesesteak which was better than the last vegan version I had in Philly, itself.
The side of fries proved to be crippling at the end of the meal b/c momma told me at a young age to always finish everything on my plate!
Good portion sizes and loads of flavor. A must visit spot if you’re in St. Paul.

Mozzarella sticks are a must - Edit
I've been here a couple times and have been generally happy with my experience every time. I do wish the portions were bigger for what you pay (mostly thinking of the chicken sandwich). I tried the vegan cheesecake but the texture was a bit off. I also tried a vegan stir fry of sorts, can't remember the exact name, which was okay but not great. The mozzarella sticks, however, are incredible. They keep me coming back and I can't recommend them enough. Overall, J. Selby's is great for American comfort food, but for other flavors I would go elsewhere.

Excellence! - Edit
I love how they handled things once Covid hit. I even love the 10% covid surcharge which went to the employees. The menu had a change a bit because of the pandemic, but most of my favorite items were still around (except the BLT). One of my favorites even improved!
Read moreThe excellence according to my tastebuds:
Cauliflower wings - made even better with their sweet chili, buffalo, or maple mustard sauces
Dirty "Little" Secret - think big mac, but vegan and superior in every way! (I tried a gluten-free version of this, which swaps out the bread for a gluten free bun. That bun is dry and not tasty. I'll stick to the gluten version.)
Caesar Salad - because their dressing and their seitan bacon is so good!
During covid they omitted the BLT but added a club sandwich. It's delicious!
ANIMAL FRIES - they have some of the best vegan animal fries. Every bite is ridiculously amazing!
Desserts:
Carrot cake!
They have soy clones, which are vegan blizzards. They're ok, but I wish they'd upgrade to an almond or oat milk base for a better taste. It would make all the difference.
