Delicious options - Edit
SO many good choices. Been here about 5 times, and have never been disappointed. I will say though that the dinner is better than brunch. I recommend the mediterranean bowl, spicy peanut stir fry, and chikn caesar salad! Soy clones are all good too.

Long time customer frustration - Edit
I have been coming to J Selby’s since the day it opened. I had never been to an all vegan restaurant before and when it opened I was somewhat newly vegan.
Read moreThey had an amazing menu, decent prices with a few dishes being steep (ex the dirty secret). The homemade baked good were amazing!! I’d seriously sometimes come just for a peanut butter cookie. I loved the brunch so much, I’d basically go once a weekend.
They have made, in my opinion, horrible changes that have made it a rare occurrence for me to choose to dine there anymore. I’d rather go to places that only have a few vegan options than go there because of how outraged I am as a loyal customer. I’ll explain the 5 things they did they really make it hard for me to come back:
1. They got rid of their delicious homemade baked goods and instead use Vegan East baked goods. HORRIBLE decision. Maybe it was more cost effective for J’s but the vegan east cookies taste like dry garbage. I can tell you I haven’t bought any dessert for over a year.
2. Reduced brunch to only Sundays. I don’t understand the point of this because brunch was always packed whenever I went (which was often) and plenty of people came.
3. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR SYRUP IF YOUR ORDER PANCAKES OR FRENCH TOAST. I have never known ANYONE who eats pancakes plain, without syrup. For them to force us to pay an extra dollar (might be more expensive than that now) for a measly tiny cup, meant for sauces, of syrup is so enraging. I don’t know how J Selby’s can even justify that! How is my extra dollar really making a difference for you?! I’d rather you just increase the price of the dish by one dollar than charge me a dollar for something that I have to have. What’s next?! A dollar if we want to use ketchup on for our fries?! A dollar if we want to use the tap water??!! Don’t even get me started on $3 for guacamole.
4. They have up-charged everything on their menu, like no one was gonna notice something they ordered all the time going up $2-$3. 🙄
5. They recently shaved off a bunch of items on their menu, including some of the things I know so many people liked (aka street tacos).
I’ve gone from a loyal, frequent customer of J Selby’s to an angry, unsatisfied one. They act like a lazy child who keeps making bad decisions but when you confront them about it, act like they did nothing wrong. The best way I can describe this place now is greedy, lazy, and uncaring. It will be a rare for me to show up, and many friends have echoed this.
Pros: All vegan, Some dishes are actually pretty good, Walking distance from my residence
Cons: Way too expensive- nickel & dime you @ any opp., It’s basically all vendor alternative food , Inconsistent flavoring of food

I Had to get the dirty secret. Was fabulous. Had it when the patties were still HB Brand. However I’m sure it’s just as excellent with the beyond burger patties. Wish I had more time in the Twin Cities to explore the menu here. Also had an Oreo Soyclone. Delicious.

Amazing - Edit
Love J Selby’s! I had the philly sandwich (most incredible bread ever) Everyone in my family loved the food - veg daughter had beet wrap & thought it was delish. Non-veg daughter had the chili dog and thought she could be vegan if the food was this good 😊 will definitely go there anytime I am in the twin cities. Cool vibe. They offer a community bowl for a price range (pay what you can - I think it was 5-10 dollars) you can pay 5 dollars for a token to pay for someone’s community bowl - gotta love a place that has a heart ❤️

Just what the cities needed. Great place to take non vegan friends who are curious. They have burgers of the week as well as soup specials. Beer and wine is generally local and of course vegan as well. You can order drinks and desserts at the bar if the normal line is out the door. Just revamped their brunch menu and made it only on Sundays, both of which I think were good moves. Soyclones are their version of a dairy queen blizzard and I get one everytime. Another place I would love if they delivered...

THE BEST! - Edit
As new as they are, they already know how to handle a lot of customers at once. I was in town for 10 days, and ate their 5 times. It always seemed to be busy, but that was never a problem. Everything was great. My favorite was my favorite appetizer - cheesecake. I took 4 other friends, and everybody loved all of it. The atmosphere, decor, personnel, and food is unsurpassed. Can I give this place 6 Stars/Cows?

Great comfort food - Edit
This restaurant was great, they have a good variety of vegan comfort foods. Their buffalo wings were surprisingly good. The only downside was I was not a fan of the cheese sauce for the big pretzel (but the pretzel itself was delicious). Also they have soft serve ice-cream! It was the first time I've had it since I've been vegan and it was just like I remembered it (only better because cruelty free!)

SO GOOD - Edit
I a pretty new vegan, about a month, and I and seriously in love with this place! It was my first time there and the nachos were sooo yummy, but I wish it came with guacamole! The wings are amazing! Didn’t care much for the vegan ranch but that’s something I can overlook! Lastly, the captain crunch ice cream was to die for! Will definitely be back!

When it's good it's good... - Edit
When it's good it's good, but some of the food is so-so.
Read moreI split food with my partner. We got The Dirty Secret, The Philly with fries and slaw, and buffalo cauliflower wings. The wings and The Dirty Secret were out of this world good. The Philly was just okay. The fries had that "we've obviously spent most of our life in the freezer" taste, which wouldn't be such a big deal if they were cheaper, but with a $15 burger+fries combo you expect more. The desserts were amazing, though!
Pros: The Dirty Secret is amazing
Cons: Bad fries

The Awesome J. Selby's! - Edit
We love this vegan restaurant...they make delicious vegan meals that would satisfy even the most ardent carnivores so you can bring your non-vegan friends & family and they'll enjoy it as well. Some of their meatless meat comes from our beloved Herbivorous Butcher such as their "Dirty Secret" burger. OMG. They also have a nice selection of wine and beer, so now you know. Go there!!

New Favorite Vegan Restaurant in the Cities - Edit
The menu selections were amazing. I went there with my vegan family for brunch, then went back for dinner later that same day. Very reasonably priced compared to other vegan/vegetarian places in the area. Even though it was extremely busy, customer service was amazing and employees made sure everyone was taken care of. VERY quick service too!

where you can take your non vegan friends! - Edit
I’ve been here a few times now and have never been disappointed. The “mess” breakfast was particularly awesome, as was the breakfast burrito. It’s hard to find good vegan options for brunch so I am glad this place is so good!!! And it’s nice to be able to eat anything off the menu with no worries. The food is accessible, more “vegan junk food” which is right up my alley.

Good Food - Edit
We drove an hour to come check out J Selby's. I called ahead to see how late food would be served and was not impressed by the person answering the phone. Basically hung up on me after shouting the time into the phone. Nonetheless we drove the hour as we heard the buffalo cauliflower was great. When we arrived we were clueless and had no idea we were supposed to order at a counter. After asking a couple people we figured it out. The buffalo cauliflower bites were pretty good. We tried the Falafel Burger and The Dirty Little Secret. Both were good. The Falafel burger needed a few more pickles or a banana pepper for that cold crunchiness, but over all had great flavor. Probably will return sometime.

Very Popular! - Edit
My boyfriend and I have family in the Twin Cities and were delighted to find out about J Selby's. We visited for lunch and were overwhelmed by the LONG line! Took a VERY long time to get to order (at least 30 minutes). Once we got our food, however, we were very pleasantly surprised. Nearly everything was delicious. My only recommendation is the cheeze!! Cheese sauce lacked acid and spice and the cheese slices were unappetizing and flavorless. Other than the that, everything else was really, really great. We especially enjoyed the cauliflower wings with sweet chili Asian sauce. Good ranch too! :) We'll definitely be back next time we are visiting!

This is almost like vegan diner food. Not to fancy, something you could probably make at home, but maybe you don't really have the time to cook tonight. The atmosphere is loud, but friendly. A great neighborhood hangout.
