Great atmosphere and snacks

After walking the Nakasendo, Happy Cow came to the rescue once again and I had some lovely vegan oyaki and melon flavoured shaved ice. Don't miss the yard in the back, with a pond and a cozy atmosphere.

Good snacks

I had one of each of the oyaki. The apple one was sooo good. After hiking the trail from Magome, it was great to have a place to rest and eat a snack. They also sell some beautiful ceramics

Gorgeous unexpected vegan food - kind owners

Really delicious Oyaki (steamed buns) with several vegan feelings and desserts (gohei-mochi and mitarashi-dango), the little shop is super cute and the owners were really smiley and kind. It was such a lovely surprise to find vegan food in the middle of the mountains after a few soba places said they couldn't accommodate vegan. Really recommended!

Vegan surprise!

We didn't really expect to find anything vegan in this small historic street, but surprisingly their mushroom and veggie steamed bun is vegan and very yummy for a small snack. The other buns might be vegan aswell (didn't ask).

The glazed dango doesn't contain any fish, that's the second vegan item I found.

They also provide hot tea (it's still cold outside) and/or water. There is an open seating area behind the shop. And the staff there was lovely! The owner is very open to conversation but only speaks a little English.

Shop also sells some souvenirs.

Pros: very friendly staff, cosy
