An amazing vegan experience in Belgrade - Edit
I don't know why people in the comments say that the staff is rude. I've been here many times and every time it was such an amazing experience! There're so many options to choose from, and I was never disappointed with my choice. The owners are nice people, they even gave us recommendations about the city and were willing to answer all our questions. One of the things that I'll miss from Belgrade would definitely be Mayka!

Great food - Edit
Many vegan options, home-made drinks (lemonade with mint and elderflower is great), nice outdoor space with palm trees, and always nice warm welcome.

Great Vegan Food - Edit
A rather tasty restaurant where almost everything is vegan, although sadly a couple of dishes are not. Serving sizes are huge, and you can try a lot of traditional Serbian cuisine.

Best Vegan I Have Eaten - Edit
Truly, and this is not said lightly, I live in California so I know good vegan. This is inspired.
Read moreThe uniqueness and creativity of flavor and presentation set this place as my new favorite vegan eatery. I had the simple soup and loved the nuance of the subtle ginger, the fish and chips the zucchini was cooked perfectly. The chickpea chic was the star of the meal and the seitan had a layer of flavor that rivaled its inhumane counterpart. In reading the reviews there are comments of a rude staff. I did not encounter this at all, true artists don’t need to overcompensate. Let the food speak for itself.
Pros: Unique Dishes, Flavorful, Location

Not satisfactory - Edit
The main problem with this venue is that the staff is so unpleasant. The older guy keeps yelling at everyone and he is even rude to guests. When we came in he was yelling at some girls to came in to take photos and he kicked them out (?)
Read moreThe food is mediocre and not very good quality for the price, which is a shame since the location of the bar is very convenient. On the other hand, even if the price/quality ratio were any better, I'd still choose against coming back here, because of the weird atmosphere and the owner's attitude.
Cons: Rude staff and owner, Bad price/quality ratio, Smokey in the winter

Better than expected! - Edit
I tried a variety of dishes:
Read moreThe miso ramen was decent but the Thai soup needed more salt
The paneer and masala samosas were amazing. The crust was bordering on delicious pie crust. Flaky and, dare I say, buttery
The steak wasn’t my jam but the goulash was among the better goulashes I’ve tried across Hungary, Czechia, Austria, and here, and was the first decent attempt by a vegan restaurant at the dish
Pros: Variety of options, authentic Eastern European and Balkan options, outdoor seating’s a plus during coronatime
Cons: Expensive, chairs could be comfier , Soups left much to be desired

Fake “meat” tastes the same in all dishes - Edit
Big vegan/vegetarian menu, but there was not something really interesting. Fake “meat“ tastes the same in all dishes. Prices are too high.

Small portions and overpriced - Edit
Insanely small portions for a lot of money. Do not order the salads.. it was just offensive. The staff looked very well fed so they can't have been eating the customer portions. Really disappointed, check out the Chinese restaurants around the market instead.

They have good vegan food, I recommend Belgrade steak and spaghetti bolognese. I didn't like the atmosphere, and the staff was unkind, and not open to accept critique.

Super steak and stuff - Edit
The Mayka, Belgrade steak was simply one of, if not the best vegan seitan steak I have ever had (I,Ve had many!) the sauce is super the texture succulent. It came with delightfully flavoured roast potatoes. We also tried a very good chick pea “chip” dish with char grilled seitan strips. The menu is extensive with many vegan choices. The staff are friendly the interior is homely and a bit eccentric, there are seats outside in the pedestrianised street. We had waffle dessert which were good. We had two meals and drinks here and it cost us about £/e30 in total each night which is expensive by local standards but fine by "Western" ones. The portions are not huge but as I get older I have learnt to appreciate quality over quantity!

During our three days in Belgrade, we‘ve been there three times. The food was amazing - everything was really fresh and delicious. The staff can recommend you, what they just got from the market. Another huge plus is the great variety of vegan ‚meat’.

Cozy local bar - Edit
Mayka and Pijaza bar in one place. I came here at night and the kitchen was closed, so I offered a hot ginger drink. The place has a lot of old Yugoslavian decorations and style. The place seems to be animal-friendly and there was a friendly dog inside.

Good food - Edit
Really great to get veganised versions of more traditional Serbian food. I tried the starter with sausages and vegan cheese which was delicious, especially the sausage. I also had the Belgrade steak which I enjoyed immensely.

Very disappointing - Edit
I really don't know where this restaurant got its "best veg place in Belgrade" reputation from. Everything on my plate was a disappointment except a tiny bit of cucumber salad that was actually fresh and tasted good. You could tell by the texture, the color and uneven temperature of the vegetables that pretty much everything was eithet kept in the fridge for way too long (the hummus for example, it was dry, tasteless, and had a funky texture) or reheated in the microwave (the vegetables were discolored due to oxidation, the rice came extremely dry and in lumps). 70% of what i got on my plate wasn't made in-house, and the stuff that was made in-house was bad. All in all, i would not recommend this place. I had a better meal in a fast-food falafel place on the street than in Mayka.

A good selection of vegan options and right in city centre - Edit
I went twice, had the vegan platter which was pretty good, I wasn’t a fan of the way the tempeh was done but was a good sized meal. Second time I had the vegan burger, the seitan was over cooked and the cheese was not to my liking but the potato side dish was yummy.

SO GOOD! - Edit
The menu is long and with so many vegan options it was hard to choose, but after seeing a bunch of people recommend the Belgrade Steak I decided on that. My boyfriend had the seitan cheeseburger and we were both so impressed. The “steak” was really juicy and flavourful and the sides of paprika potatoes, cucumber salad, bread and cheeze were delicious too. Huge drinks selection and the waiter recommended us a nice draft beer. There didn’t seem to be much indoor seating, but there was a bunch of free tables out the front which was fine (we went at 2pm on a Saturday so it wasn’t too busy).
Read moreThis was the best meal we’ve had in a while, it was a little expensive for our backpacker budget otherwise we definitely would’ve come back the next day. The bill was 3125rsd for two mains and three drinks, and they included some sort of service charge. By Balkans standards it’s a bit pricy, but still less than half what we would pay for something similar back home in Australia.
Pros: delicious food, friendly waiter (young guy), lots of variety
Cons: on the expensive side - but worth it

Good food, bad service - Edit
We ate here twice during our stay in Belgrade. The first time we had the Belgrade seitan stake and one of the burgers. Both were delicious. The second time we had the seitan goulash and the Mayka special platter. The goulash was also very good. The seitan sausages and chutney on the platter were also excellent, but the vegetables were a bit too salty.
Read moreThe second time we went, our order was taken by a very rude older man (the owner?). We were warned that we would have tot wait half an hour for the Mayka special platter, but it ended up taking 75 minutes (!) to prepare our food. Both plates were also not served at the same time... during the wait we ware basically ignored by the waiters (no one came to check whether we needed something to drink etc).
Still three stars because we've never had seitan prepared so well in several different ways!

Amazing vegan local food - Edit
The food was amazing! Lots of different vegan options, the menu was clearly marked and labelled with what was vegan or possible to veganise. We were two vegans and had the Belgrade steak and the mambo mix, really good tempeh, vegan cevapcici, grilled tofu, grilled seitan steak, grilled veggies and potato wedges. Felt like Serbian food, but for vegans! The staff was really nice and the place is very cozy. The menu also included burgers and Indian food which we didn't tried. Main dish around 900-1100 RSD.
